I drove 30 miles one way yesterday to the nearest Revel dealer in my area. I was going to audition the F206. I took along a couple of my favorite CDs. The speakers sounded wonderful. I listened to them with Rotel processor and Rotel amplifier. They have a wonderful mid range, and are a beautiful speaker. I also looked at the F208. You get alot more speaker for $1500 more dollars with the 208. Revel has a promotion going where you get 30% off if you know a Ford employee who comes in the store with you and presents there employee badge. My mother and three of my sister's are retired from Fords, but it has to be an active Ford employee. No retirees. I would appreciate it if anyone with the F206 would chime in with there thoughts on the speaker.

I bought mine in January and thoroughly enjoying them. To my ears they sound great top to bottom. There are numerous reviews online and I don't believe that they are an exaggeration.

I bought them without ever listening to them, and to quote me dealer, you'd have to be deaf not to like these speakers.

Since you've had opportunity to listen to them, you're in a great position to decide if you need more bass, as the rest of the speaker is the same. Some have said they like the 206 better than the 208, I'd say it's a matter of to each his own.

There are some authorized dealers on the forum who are a wealth of knowledge.

I would be listening to them in two channel stereo, without a subwoofer at least for the time being. No home theater just for music listening. I am sure a sub would be added if necessary somewhere down the road. There is a pair of gloss black on Audiogon right now in like new condition. The owner is selling them because he wanted more low end and moved up to the 208. He must have gotten a really good discount on them, because he is selling them at a really "fair" price.

I have a sub and usually turn it off for music. I use pure mode on my pre.

Bass is hard to quantify, a lot depends on room size, configuration and musical taste, which I guess you can say about any part of a system.

If you thought the bass was light on the 206, you may want to step up. If you thought it was satisfactory you aren't getting different mids and tweeters so I wouldn't expect any other surprises.
Good luck with your choice. Deals can be found as you see.

Surely one of your family members can get an active Ford employee to help you get that 30% discount. Don't pass on the chance to get F208's at that price. Buy once, cry once!

Warren Mi. But if I buy, I would be foolish not to get the "new" 206's off audiogon. They are almost 50% off retail price. I appreciate your offer!

Revel Owners Thread

I bought F206 in late Dec after listening to F208s at Revel dealer. Love the F206s for $1,500 less than F208. Have them paired with Outlaw Ultra X-12 and blend in perfect at 80 Hz crossover. Love both the mids & highs of the F206s.

Than 1 month ago received great 40% off sale on eBay for new pair of M16s; love those also & currently use for rear surround. Didn't want to swing mega-$$ for Performa 3 bookshelf speakers; didn't feel they were worth the extra $ vs. the M16s

Good luck & enjoy!

Primary set-up 5.1.4; Yamaha A2050 w/Emotiva XPA-2
Revel F206 fronts & M16 rears; Outlaw X12 Sub & RSL C34e in-ceilings
Secondary 5.1: Denon S900W, Polks LSiM703/704C, Polk RC80i in-ceiling rears, RSL Sub10

Look good and a great price. Someone even has a set of m106 of you need to go surround.

Wondering if anyone has heard any more about the up coming Performa F208 Be and if they are going to have a matching center? I know the price is going to be higher so curious to know if it's going to be justifiable. This question is directed to the Revel dealers who post regularly here. Also wonder if they are still slated for late to mid summer release?

Clearly understand if there is not any info out yet or if it's not to be released to the public as yet.

Thanks G

Have fun with music and HT

I hear you. I missed out once on a set of m106 for my rears. Next time, made the deal as soon as they hit.

They say everything happens for a reason. I tell you what, the 206 and 208 are both beautiful speakers. I would really love a pair of 208's. I would hold off on getting a sub for a while, just to enjoy them by themselves. That's a speaker that would satisfy me for life! No doubt!

I put my center channel on top of the console and used rubber feet to tilt it up so it aims at my head. The TV is hung so the bottom is just above the speaker and the center of the TV is at eye height with me sitting on the couch. It looks and sounds great.

It's huge. Possibly looking at something custom. I have the C205 it sits on top of my cabinet. There are four studs with rubber tops that allow me to have the speaker raised and tilted.

Rex,

I am leaning towards this route.

I'm considering building a riser (enclosure for the C208) and placing the C208 inside of it. The riser would be on the console and the TV would sit on it.

Putting the speaker inside another box will surely change it's response for the worse. Not recommended.

I was jut about to post the same thing. I much prefer my center channel out in the open and don't like media consoles with a box to put them in.

My console is 21" high off the floor. My center channel is 9.5 inches tall (horizontal orientation like the C208). Bottom of my TV is 31" off the floor.

Most of my equipment sits on top of the console (Bryston SP-2, center channel, Oppo BDP-95. Inside the console is a Bryston 3B SST2 amp for the Revel F208's and an amp for my outdoor speakers. I store some CD's in there too, but there is some unused space.

I used to have all the gear hidden in the console, but the SP-2 got too hot and the remotes for it and the Oppo didn't work well. I don't mind seeing it sitting out and it works better.

I use a Salamander Designs Synergy Quad console. Modular so you can design your own.

You're welcome! This is total reconstruction of your setup, but have you thought about mounting all your equipment in a vertical rack off to the side instead of a horizontal console underneath the TV? Then you could hang the TV on the wall and buy/build a stand for the center to go underneath it. The stand for my Revel Voice is only available on the used market, so I originally considered these:

Revel does make a stand for the F208, not sure of the price but I'm sure your dealer could help you out.

Now that I'm back on track I need a processor/ receiver. I'm using my old Emotiva UMC 200 and it is way to tinney not as warm as the Marantz I had hooked up. I don't want to use the Marantz as I'm not sure if that caused my speakers to blow. Any ideas? I'm thinking 3k and under. XMC-1, Anthem or maybe a new Marantz.
