Primus speakers are currently available on the Harman Audio website in the "Factory Recertified" section. Just received a PC351 and it is flawless.

I now regret selling my P363 which I purchased for $100 each, those deals used to be very frequent at Fry's and I thought I could buy them again if needed

Are the p153 and p163 basically the same if I use them as rears in a 5.1 setup?

Yes. I've had both and they sound/look basically the same to me. I only replaced the P153s since I wasn't using the P163s which were replaced with the P363s. P163 is on the bottom in the photo.

I'm looking for a pair of fairly small speakers to use as rears with my pc351 and 363's. They will be mounted from the ceiling.

Any suggestions?

I've been having sort of a Primus renaissance here lately, after disposing of our uncomfortable sectional couch & replacing it with two chairs (one my awesome Stressless) and a smaller loveseat, which has given us some more open floorspace. I bought 3 of the Chane A2rx-c centers a while back and are mostly happy with them, although they have a tendency to get a bit strident or tizzy with certain media files. Decided to rotate them out & readd my P360s & C-351 back into the LR. My room suffers from "media niche-itis" where everything has to fit in a corner of the room, so that's a big factor regarding room reflections. Audessey helps with that a bit, but having the left speaker sitting about a foot from a window isn't helping. However I'm hearing a better soundstage & smoother overall response w/ the Primus set. I even rotated in my stand mount P163's last night, recalibrated the room, and am enjoying the heck out of it this weekend. Who says you have to spend a ton of $$ to have great sound?

@christoofar

Ever since I heard about the Infinity Primus speakers I was interested. I don't have the budget for fine speakers for many dollars. Since I acquired my front stage comprising a pair of P363's and a PC251 (didn't have room for the PC351), I've been more than satisfied. What a great buy! I've got a pair of P163's to put up yet. The fronts replaced an old Bose cube set that had a non-powered woofer that I had for years. The P163's will replace the Bose bookshelf speakers that I've also had for many years. Talk about an upgrade!!! Just waiting to pull the trigger on the PS312 to complete the setup. It's a shame they're being phased out. Lots of folks will never know how good they are.

Agreed. And Harman doesn't even support service or spare parts for these, which is a shame. One of the woofers in my P163's died after getting knocked over, luckily I found one on ebay.
I've always been searching for good affordable speakers for my modest system, and have rotated out many many brands over the years. It has been fun doing it, but at this point in my life, the cost of this hobby is limiting, and even better, these work really well in my home. At 63 years old, my ears are probably not going to be getting any better either, so why own expensive speakers that I really can't even fully hear?

You can probably always fine a replacement woofer over at parts express.
Just measure the dimentions of the P163 woofer and filter the 6 ½ woofers over at parts express. I actually was going to replace the woofers on my P163s with a Dayton Audio one because I was going to paint the trim rings black and wanted a black woofer as well.

I would think there would be differences between the OEM designed woofer, and a drop in from PE. Sensitivity, Freq response, etc. I dunno about that. Anyways I found the one I needed, so good to go.

World Wide Stereo via Amazon has Infinity Primus Speakers for reasonable prices and it might be the last chance for new stock.

P253 for $80
P363 for $140

Whats the price on those subs? Unless you're getting either of those subs for a couple hundred off the MSRP (or listed Amazon price) you can probably do better waiting for a subwoofer to go on sale such as the Klipsch Sub12-HG. Those go on sale for under $200, meaning that you can probably buy 2 if you save a little longer.

I JUST ordered a PS312 from that site. I figured that Harmon Audio offers FREE shipping, (return shipping too) for the 30 day satisfaction return window AND if needed for warranty repair which they cover their recerts with a LIKE NEW WARR 5yr on the box and 2yr for the electronics.... Such a deal. This buy completes my Infinity "SET", four P363's, one PC351, and now one PS312 ordered. I bought the 363's last year on Amazon and they were initially listed at 149-169 ea. I kept returning back to the listing to convince myself to buy and one time, the 363's were priced at 99 bucks with a limit of three. GOT 'EM. The fourth one I got at BH Photo for 146. I bought all of my Infinities sight unseen, but, I trusted the Audioholic's reviews and am VERY pleased with the performance with a price that fits my budget (and HT layout), nicely. P.S. The HA site also has factory re-certified P363's for 164.99 as of 9-22-16 - for those interested. PP.SS. Crutchfield has < 100 NEW PS312's for 329.99, also for those interested....

Primus 360's

Hello,

I purchased my Primus 360's (with a c25 and 8" infinity sub) back in 2006. Anyone still running them? I'm driving them with an older Yamaha avr from 1998. Anyone driving them (or the newer 360 line) with the newer flagship receivers from Yamaha, Denon, or the like and noticed any differences in sound?

I am going to upgrade my speakers in the near future and was also wondering what some of you have upgraded to after Primus. I'm personally looking at Revel and sticking within the Harman line.

Sometimes I consider just sticking with the 360's I have now and just add a much better sub and a modern avr but the urge to upgrade is biting me.

Thanks,
Z

Either the Infinity Reference 253/263s or the Revel Concerta2 F35/F36s will have noticeably better sound than your Primus 360s, even with your current AVR. And their power handling capacity and ability to just play louder and still be remarkably clean.

GLBright,

Thanks for your response. I'm actually looking at the Revel F206 for an upgrade.

I should have worded my posting a little differently. Being that the line is out of production now I was curious:

A. who still has the Infinity Primus 360 series and what they are currently driving them with.

B. As the Primus series is a great budget speaker - if you have upgraded, what have you decided to upgrade to.

A. I'm driving a full Primus setup with an older Pioneer receiver
(VSX-1016TXV: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...rs/VSX-1016TXV)

  • 363 fronts (sound the same as the 360's)
  • 351 center
  • 150 surrounds (4)
  • 212 sub (1)

B. Won't be upgrading anytime soon, as I am quite satisfied with the sound quality...

If I were in the market for new speakers right now those would be my first choice. A quality sub would be a necessity with them, though. Let us know how you like them.

My 5.0 system consists of six P363's, with two series connected as CC speaker for the last year. I had to remove the Polk PSW-505 sub to place the second CC speaker - and haven't missed it. My wife is happier with the symmetry - another attribute. My garden home great room is carpet on a concrete slab, so rattling the floor isn't possible with anything short of a jack-hammer. The twelve 6.5" LF drivers make disaster movies 'enjoyable' enough. To be blunt, I am still impressed with my HT.

Another offshoot of being 'satisfied' with my HT is that it permits improvements to my office 2.0 (Stereo - CD only!) system to be made. In the three+ years I've been here I have gone from P163's to NHT S1 2.1's to Klipsch KB-15's to Klipsch RB-81ii's to - last Sunday - a pair of 1977-vintage Klipsch Heresy's (Keepers!). The electronics now include just an Onkyo C-7030 CDP and an Emotiva a-100 mini-X 50Wpc amp - with just a volume control - simple! My wife is still satisfied with her stereo - a Sony CD changer and stereo receiver driving a pair of P363's. That's right -I bought eight of them - from $89 - $109 each. I also have two P143 connected to a Lepai amp to my BR 42" TV, with two more P143's and four little used P163's 'in reserve' (I am a speaker hoarder!)

Great deal on primus speakers, last hurrah I can see under 150 for the 363. Buyrush.com, free shipping as well. Never heard of them, but throwing it out there.
