I am looking for advice....

I currently have KEF Q900's as well as a XS30 sub. I am looking to purchase a centre channel as well as surround sound speakers. I was thinking the 600c but am unsure if that is the correct way to go as my sub pretty much handles all of the bass... any other suggestions that people can make?

The first set of the new Reference 5s have made it to Kef US. They are destined to go to San Francisco for Audio Vision SF's grand opening. Hopefully some feedback will start coming in soon.

Go with the larger 600 center.

Depends on if you want higher SPL or better sound.

The 5" Uni-Q throws a pattern about the same was the 8" Uni-Q. The 6" Uni-Q has a flare up in the midrange that clearly compromises sound quality, but can get louder before sounding strained than the 5" unit.

Guys,

I've email KEF for polar plots of the E301 satellites and haven't gotten back a response. Would anyone know where I can find the directivity pattern for the KEF E301?

Would like to compare this to the LS50 to see what the differences are.

Once I have completed the minitheater I will post pictures

I use 7 KEF LS50 and am wondering if the PIoneer Elite D3 amplification would work!

You'd need independent measurements to know for sure, and to my knowledge there hasn't been a competent review of the E301. But KEF seems to have a pretty consistent target. The Q100/R100/LS50 have a slightly bigger midwoofer cone, so directivity control will start slightly lower in frequency.

So you are saying that the 200 will sound better than the 600, but the 600 can go louder? What's the reason for the flare up in the midrange?

"Sound better" is subjective. What I'm saying is that 5" Uni-Q throws a more even pattern through the midrange, and is thus more like the Q900.

Directivity mismatch. The woofer's dispersion narrows up top, and the tweeter waveguide is too wide to match it. The 5" and 8" Uni-Qs just match the woofer and tweeter dispersion through the crossover region better.

Do you think that the 200c would get drowned out with the Q900's? I usually listen to movies around -20 to -15. This is such a hard decision to make!!!

I am looking to upgrade my LCR speakers soon from Energy CF70/CC10 to Kef R900/R600. I have scoured the internet for the best price or a package price. Can someone send me a pm as to where I can get this combo at a great price. I appreciate the help.

Has anyone seen KEF's new Dolby Atmos enabled modules? These are meant to match up with the R700 units and sit right on top. These were recently demonstrated in London by Dolby Atmos for home around 13-Aug-2014. AVS member Keith Barnes went along for the demo and reported back positive results. Impressions are here: The official Dolby Atmos thread (home theater version)

What are the dimensions of these up firing modules? Any details on the drive unit, it's angle and how much do they weigh? What about cost?

These are meant for KEF owners who have flat ceilings (8' to 14' in height) and don't want to install Atmos ceiling type speakers. This would apply to me.

I've read they're announcing the modules at CEDIA this year. I would expect the R100/R800ds drive unit.

Speaking of the R700, Stereophile has a review of them in the September issue. I didn't read it - I rarely read text in Stereophile that wasn't written by Prof. Rubinson or by JA in the measurement section - but its axial frequency response seem to be just like the R200c and R600c (unlike the R300): smoothly declining FR with frequency. Polars are what one would expect from KEF, the Q300/700 black sheep aside.

Based on the measurements they might lack a little air for some people's preferences, but IMO that kind of voicing hits the spot. Well done, KEF!

Have you guys seen the new reference white paper? It's a very nice overview of what, IMO, goes into good speaker design. There's much more to see here than in the LS50 whitepaper.

Theater room: Sony VPL HW30ES, DIY 100" screen with Seymour Centerstage XD, 5 Revel M105, 2 JBL Studio 210, 4 SVS SB12-NSD, Anthem MRX-300
Living room: Panasonic TC-P60VT60, 3 KEF LS50, Pioneer SW-8, Marantz NR1603
