Sorry. I meant the R series centers. Another good candidate that also may or may not be more aesthetically sensisible would be r700s. This is judging by the white paper measurements of the reference prototype, and looking at stereophile's measurements of the r700, with admittedly a lot of deduction.

Got it now. So you are thinking that I could go with Reference One for left and right and use the R600C for the center and R300 for surrounds. Interesting. Thanks

Nope. Wasnt clear I suppose. 3x KEF reference one up front. 2-4x r600c or r700 for surrounds.

With surrounds set to small, the LS50 will match the reference range the best. The R series is a bit laid back where the Reference is not and neither is the LS50. If you are thinking of adding the R50 ATMOS up firing modules, then the R series would be the better choice. Surround tonal match is primarily most important for multichannel music IMO.

I second that recommendation, mostly. I'd probably go with the R200c just because they're cheaper and smaller, but still voiced basically neutrally through the mids and polite up top. I wouldn't expect any performance drop off as surrounds generally from using the R200c over the bigger ones, and that goes more so when one's running relatively small LCR mains.

Not really. Anything halfway decent will suffice as surrounds for multichannel music. Movies may be different. I don't really know or care that much.

Based on my experience I would respectively disagree. I think movies are less important.

If I bought Kef R series the R100 standmounts for rears are £600 and R800DS are £1000. That's far too much I'd spend on surround speakers. Hell my Kef Reference 2.2 fronts cost than £1000 new! and my Hifi standmounts cost £150 (but worth £1000)

I never said movies were more or less important. I said two things.

1) Anything halfway decent will suffice as surround speakers for a multichannel music system.

2) I don't know or care if the above is true for movies as well.

I really don't like the bi-wire/single wire adjustment knob on the new Kef's, sometimes I move from bi-amp to single wiring, at least with bridging links it's obvious how it's wired up...but with a dial that means pulling speaker out and making sure you rotate the dial in the right direction..or what if someone adjusts it without you knowing? Or borrow a demo pair or it breaks inside?

I'm not a big fan of them either. I use a set of jumper wires with the stock method disengaged.

Samsung 51" Plasma E530, Pioneer SC-1222-K, Sony BDP-S5200, Roku 3, Custom HTPC/XBMC, KEF Q600c -center, KEF Q900- mains, Definitive Technology SM450- side surrounds, Definitive Technology SM350- rear surrounds, Custom sub 'end table' with 12" Oz Audio Matrix Elite, Crown XLS 1500 sub amp, Harmony 650 and IRule remotes

I am looking for a small footprint (i.e. book shelf sized speakers) all around. LS 50 fits the bill nicely as surrounds. Thanks for the feedback.

I was just offered the following KEF speakera from my buddys old system that he is getting rid of, worth taking for my new system...

2x KEF SP3254 Speakers
1x KEF SP3191 Speaker

If these are good as front speakers what should I get as the surround speakers?

I agree. It would be nice if KEF showed leadership and replaced kludgy and antequated binding posts with the modern Neutrik Speakon terminal. Speakons are just vastly superior.

Just noticed my KEF Q300 (front wide right) speaker is crackling. It's only 8 month old. Never been too loud or had anything negligent happen to it. I swapped it with other speakers and still the same. So what do I do now? Is it covered by warranty or do I have to buy a new one. Can I buy just one speaker or is it a pair at a time.

If I have to buy a new pair I'm thinking of buying 2 more Q900 instead.

Cheers

Should be a warranty claim.

Anyone compared the Blade with the LS50 in terms of resolution/detail/clarity?

It looks like KEF went with isolation on the Blade for the uni-q driver instead of tightly bolting it to the chassis?
