Budget was $1000, have spent $800 so far on everything else. So left with $150 - $200 (can stretch it a bit if needed).

I would have preferred to get another Q100 or Q300 as center but I can't justify buying a pair. Couldn't find a single Q100/Q300 in Craigslist/classifieds here. Any suggestions on what alternate options are good? Read that bookshelves are better than MTM centers if you have the space. So leaning towards bookshelves if I can get a single speaker that doesn't cause any obvious tonal match issues.
Buying a pair of Q100's is more cost effective than the dedicated center. Having 3 identical speaker up front is most ideal. You can use the other Q100 as a back surround in a 6.1 setup or a 2nd zone speaker. As an alternative, you can look at the Q acoustics 3090c but the detail and clarity won't be as good as the Q100's. I can speak from experience since I tried 3 different centers before biting the bullet and spending the money on the Q200c. It may be pricey but does it's job well and couldn't be happier.

I also noticed break in on my XQ40s (opening up) and surprisingly more so on my previous XQ50c.
I heard some Spendor D9s right out of the box and WOW were they bright. After about 48 hours of some pretty loud Lorde Royals on loop they started to settle down a little bit. This was at an audio show where I heard them the first day, and also the last. The gentleman running the room said he had them playing all night, every night trying to get them to settle down and by Sunday they were better, but I doubt fully run-in. Break-in seems to be real. I doubt you'd notice it on surrounds. Probably unlikely on a center too. I can't say I've noticed a huge difference in vocals. It's always the highs and the lows where I hear changes.

Kef Uni-Q centers are quite good. Being a 3-way it does not have the off center issues a MTM has.

Main Kef: Reference 205/2 & 202/2c, Surrounds: Kef XQ40, Velodyne Optimum 12, Integra DHC 80.3, Ayre K-5xeMP, Oppo BDP-103, Bryston 4Bsst2, Parasound Halo A31. Second B&W: 685 (3), CCM618, Def Tech Powerfield 1500, Onkyo TX-NR1008, Zone 2 Klipsch AW650.

I had been debating the Q200c vs a Q100 as a center to my Q100 mains. I finally decided to try the Q100 when the price recently dropped again and I'm glad I did. Though I'm sure the Q200c would be outstanding for me, the two Q100s were $200+ cheaper then the Q200c and the improvement of the Q100 over my prior non-KEF center was stunning. I've read a lot on this forum of the benefits of three identical speakers for the LCR and now I've experienced it myself. The sound and dispersion is outstanding for my needs and I've not even had a chance yet to recalibrate my system since swapping out the center.

I heartily recommend trying a Q100 for the center and using the "extra" speaker for the back in a 6.1 setup, using it in another room, or even just keeping it on-hand for a spare should you ever have an issue with one of the LCR three.

Not many receivers or AV processors can deliver 6.1 anymore and it's not popular. I don't know of any movies recorded and formatted for it either.

KEF R500, R200C, R100, SVS SB2000 sub, NAD T758 receiver, Pro-Ject RPM1 TT w/ Ortofon 2M Red, Bluesound Vault2, Sony BDP-S480 BlueRay player, Samsung UN55JU6500F 4K LED TV, KEF M500 headphones, Sony CDP-CE500 CD changer.

I'm definitely interested in getting a Q100. I just need to find someone interested in splitting the pair with me. Have left an ad on the classifieds page. Hopefully someone will be interested in selling their extra Q100! thanks for your inputs.

I agree, however he can set it up as 7.1 and just have one surround. This will make it easier to justify buying the pair since he'd be able to use both speakers in his setup. Maybe he'd be perfectly happy with a different center. I can't speak for others but for me different lower cost centers could not compete with the Q's.

Hey there. I'm building a theater room right now, just built 2 18" subs and I'll be using a false wall with an AT screen. Been looking at the q series. Anyone had any success using them behind a screen? What would a good 7 speaker setup look like?. Q300s up front then q100 for sides and rears?

It all depends on the size of the room, distance from speakers to seats and listening habits. Do you like loud volume levels or medium to moderate. You have the low end well covered with the subs, so bookshelf speakers are a good choice.

I like medium moderate but during a good movie or music session I like it loud.

Kef is running another sale on Q series. They seem to have 100, 500, 700, and 900 on sale.

The Q300's will get reasonably loud, but keep in mind they are not incredibly efficient so reference level listening may be beyond their capabilities. The detail and clarity of the Kef's is however ahead of higher efficiency speakers (of one I've heard) in it's price range. If you put a Q600c in the middle or a 3rd Q300, you should have a very good sounding setup.

Ok thanks. Guess I'll also have to take into consideration the rear port with it being behind a false wall

The port really doesn't come into play much below 80hz. You can worry less about placement, though a little space is always a good idea regardless of speakers.

They've all really been on sale for about 8 months. This is final clearout as the 2017 Q series is out and selling.

I'm running KEF Q900 fronts, Q600c center and KEF 3005 for rears. Looking for ceiling speakers to match my KEF's and won't break the bank. Going to do 5.2.4 setup using a Denon 4300H or Yamaha 2070. This is in a family room that 's 15'x17'x9' that opens up to a kitchen.

Nothing will match your Kef's better than Kef in ceiling speakers. You can save some money here.

Matching surrounds and in ceiling speakers is less critical than matching the front 3, however matching all speakers (except the sub) is always best for a cohesive sound stage. There are less expensive options, but the sound quality will likely inferior to the Kef.

The KEF Ci160QR would be ideal but they're not cheap unless you're willing to buy from an eBay seller. It appears Accessories4Less.com doesn't have any right now.

I had found 4 of the Ci200QR on the local Craigslist a couple years ago, brand new in their boxes and only one had been opened for photos. I ended up selling them off a couple months ago because my son's fiancé won't allow cutting into the ceiling.
