There's no reason to buy B stock because you can go to eBay and buy new with cashback.

P.S. I have a pair of IQ7's from the old line i wanna move at cost... if any one is interested!

Also... as far as the in ceiling yes i have used them alot! As well as the inwall take a look at http://www.premieracousticlifestyles.com/projects.html and notice Ken's system it's all based on ACE9000 in walls! For in ceiling i use the 160 and the 200's the 200's primarily.... I used the 160's with the IQ's and anything below (I.E. other custom product or KHT) i WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT PAIRING THE 160's with the Ref series! I paired the 160's with XQ's and it sounded way off balance... Always was playing with tone controls in the back channels... no fun... by all means do the 200's worth their weight 10 times over!

Can you tell me if the plinth on the new IQ70 will fit on the old IQ7?

Thanks

Always better to have matching speakers across the front (L,C,R) if you can. So if you have room for a floorstanding center, get another iQ5.

No question. If you can accommodate it, a 3rd iQ5 is the way to go.

I just had a home install done and now have the Kef 3005 surround speakers. In reading some reviews it seems that a short while back Kef updated the line and the new model number is KHT3005SE. How can I tell if I have the new model or the old one?

On a couple of reviews they mention the speakers look almost identical apart from the new tweeter cover. The part of the tweeter I can see on the satellites looks like a small silver fan.

Can anyone help me figure out if I have the most up to date version of the 3005?

Thanks,

Ken

wouldn't the back of the speaker have a label that says 3005 or 3005se?

More importantly, how does it sound?

I believe the SE model has the star or fan cover over the tweeter. You can tell in the picture gallery.

The older model is here.

The speakers are mounted in a way that I can't see the back of them.

I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

There is some discussion of this somewhere in this thread. I 'think' that we determined that the "tangerine" waveguide didn't necessarily correlate with the "SE" moniker. I 'think' there are some "SE" 3005s without the waveguide. But if you have the waveguide, you have the "SE" model.

You may want to look back in this thread for the discussion.

Thanks so much, I "feel" better now because I do have the waveguide.

I listened tonight for the first time and they sound great. My only complaint is it's a bit difficult to hear dialog at times. I'm wondering if I should replace the center channel with something different?

I assume you calibrated everything properly. There are some other posts in this thread regarding the same subject. It seems that some people have (or have contemplated) replacing the center with an iQ series center channel speaker. The good thing is that the iQ centers should match up pretty well timbre-wise. The tweeters are very similar, if not identical. Maybe an iQ2c would be a good choice.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Has anyone paired up an iQ2c with a 3005 SE setup, and if so would you recommend it?

Are there any other recommendations for improving the center channel dialog, it's quite hard to hear in many cases. I have a decent budget to upgrade the center, I'm just not sure what the best way to go is. Also, I have the center mounted on the wall above a 60 inch plasma.

Thanks for any and all advice.

I assume you angled the speaker toward your ears. Is the plasma on the wall below the speaker or out front a bit. How high is the speaker? How close is it to the ceiling? How big is your room and how far do you sit from the TV?

The speaker is angled toward my ear.

The plasma is flat on the wall below the speaker, the front of the speaker sticks out a bit beyond the plasma.

The bottom of the speaker is 68 inches from the floor, and 4 inches from the top of the TV.

The top of the speaker is 32 inches from the ceiling.

The room is 12 x 14 and I sit 11 feet from the TV.

I'm in a similar boat but cannot use a 3rd iq5 as my center. Is there no other center style speaker in the iq5 line?? I only saw the iq6 as well and figured that must be the center to pair with the iq5.

There is the iQ2c which only features a single 5.25" UniQ driver. With the additional low frequency drivers, the iQ6c is the better center to pair with the iQ5s and is a great match for them. Why are you searching for a different center speaker offering than the iQ6c?

The nice thing about KEF's coincidentally arrayed UniQ driver is that when used in a horizontal center channel speaker, it does not suffer from any of the detriments common to almost all conventional horizontal center channel speakers. It is the perfect driver configuration for a horizontal speaker. Rotate the UniQ driver 90° and it still absolutely identical.

I guess I was figuring I needed a different center based off of your reply above. Glad to know these would match...the price seems pretty low on a few different sites for the IQ5's and IQ6 center right now. Thanks!

That reply was to someone who COULD accommodate a tower speaker in the center. Perfectly identical speakers across the front soundstage is the ideal situation. When you can do it.

With most manufacturer's horizontal center channel speaker offerings there are often serious compromises in performance relative to that which would be provided by a vertical speaker, especially one that is identical to the front L/R speakers. But, as I pointed out, the KEF's UniQ driver sidesteps many of these issues.

Hello, I am building by first home theater and your opinion would be greatly appriciated. I bought Onkyo 606 and now trying to decide between 3005 or iQs
My room is 19 x 12 with 8 foot ceilings. System will be used for 50% music (hard rock or jazz) and 50% movies. What would you recommend to go with?
3005 or iQ5 and iQ6 as LCR, iQ1s back, PSW2500 sub.
By the way, salesperson in a store told me that KEF is no good for listening heavy music. It can not be true, is it?

Thanks

If the money and space considerations are no object, why would you NOT buy the better speaker setup? If you can get a different sub, you may want to do that.

They are very revealing speakers. So loud and/or poor recordings can sound very harsh on them. So, no, I would not necessarily recommend them for heavy metal listening. Rocking out is NOT where they really shine.

After posting my first post I went to a store again. I took Spawn soundtrack CD with me. Listened to it on 3005s and iQs setup: iQ7s and iQ2 LCR, iQ1 backs PW2500 sub. And I can tell you that I was not really impressed with iQs. In my opinion 3005 sounded better, fuller and produced more highs. Bass was the same. So I think I am going with 3005. And I got nice deal on them too. $1200.

If I would make 7.1 system out of 3005 what speakers could I use as LR? Which ones would integrate nicely with center and sub?

Thanks again

If you don't like any of the iQ speakers, why not get two more the 3005 satellites?

http://www.accessories4less.com/inde...arch_query=kef

Or get the smaller 1005 and use them as your surround back speakers.

iQ1s, but I would get a center to go with them, too. Like the iQ2c.
