I'm setting up my first 5.1 system. I have a seaprate room with a substantial 2 channel system for critical music listening. This 5.1 system will primarily be used for TV and movies, and my wife HATES it loud! The den is fairly large (18X24X12 high) but there is little room beside the new big screen TV. So, I will use bookshelf speakers (maybe on stands) center, sub and rears. I'll probably buy a small receiver like a Denon 1707.
However, some of the bookshelf speakers I have listened to (5.25 to 6.5 inch woofers) tend to be too boomy in the mid base when the sub is added. It's like the manufacturer is trying to make the bookshelf speakers do something they really can not in the lower region. I have heard of similar problems with good speakers like the Axiom M3 when adding a sub. (Perhps the M2 would be a better choice) Also, I have beem somewhat disapointed in the smaller plastic housed speaker systems like the Def Tech Procinema, and the similar ones from Klipsch.
Any recommendations for bookshelf fronts that blend particularly well with a good or matching sub? Remember... I am looking for good sound at moderate volume levels in fairly small packaging.
