I just read the official S300 launch page and I can't believe they are still using the "Miller & Kreisel" names. I know they bought the property in the bankrupcy auction, but still using actual last names suggests that Ken still has some kind of influence with the new products. As he is developing his own new line of speakers, I kind of doubt that he is helping the folks in Denmark.

I guess I still don't understand what happened.

How are the S300's a major redesign? It looks like the same design with different drivers and crossover. I owned all the passive M&K speakers and IMHO the 150's were their 4th best for movies and 5th best for music. The S-250's, SC-1, and my favorite, the 5000's were better. I even liked the S100B better for music as well. The 5000's had a bigger soundstage, more neutral, more dynamics, more feel, and could play much louder. The new JTR noesis 212's would be much better as I liked the original 888 speaker as much as my 5000's. Again, the 5000's to me were in a whole different class than the 150's.

Maybe I will just stay with my setup.

Nothing out there to really improve on them other than the new 150mk2 series or the 300 series. The 150mk2 series are a considerable improvement and the 300 series are a massive improvement.
What do you mean by considerable improvement in massive improvement can you elaborate please?
Thanks

Official MK - Miller & Kreisel Thread?!?

Sure can. The 300's are a complete new design. New inert cabinet construction, new crossovers, bigger drivers, all new design from ground up. Tweeters now have a wave guide on the baffle for improved dispersion.

93db sensitivity. They will play to blistering levels yet remain smooth, detailed and articulate. When mated with a quality sub they will give most high end 2 channel speakers a run for their $. They outperform the active 2150P's too.

The Danes bought the entire company including the historical rights and name. No different to say when Ford bought Jaguar, they didn't change the name or heritage.

THX now use the 300's for their reference system in California.

I've owned or spent a lot of time with the entire MK of old and the MK range. These are a different breed.

The 150mk2's are also a huge improvement over the originals too.

Do they make an active S300?

Are we allowed to talk pricing here? If not, I'm okay with deleting. I am just curious what MSRP is for the 300's and the X12?

I'm in the UK. I use the on wall MPS300's. These retail at £2000 each. The in room S300's retail at £2200 each. The surrounds are the S300T's at £3000 per pair. Not cheap. They are working on the active 300's. The X12 sells for £2695.
Google Gecko Home Cinema and you will see the various configurations etc. Gecko are the UK importer/distributer.

MK do have a US website now although limited.

Hope this is of some help as they are exceptional speakers.
I power mine with an Anthem Statement A5, processing MRX 510 and sub is a Paradigm Sub1.

Desperately seeking 4 of the 1/2"x2" (approx) foam appliqués for an MPS-2510, the kind that have the cross hatch pattern on the surface. Reason: Cat. Since I had planned to re-skin the grills I didn't pay too much attention....then realized he had made mince of the foam pads!

Very nice, but I bet I've got something even rarer still. To my knowledge these are the only of their kind: Dark Cherry.....MPS2510s! They started life as the limited and now rare dark cherry S150THX and were shortly after retrofitted to the pro version (TL tweeter, different crossover and foam appliqués).

Greetings, M&K fans,
I bought a set of 2x S125, 2x S85, and a S125C in 1998.
I still use them today and, amazingly, they still kick ass.

Lots of interesting things captured my attention since then, none of which were home theater related, but I am quasi re-interested after buying a 65" Samsung 7150 last weekend.
For many years now the tweeter in my S125C has been making sound... but not nearly as loud/bright as its peers. I removed the driver from the enclosure and it says this about itself:

[there was a pic link there but it seems I need 5 posts to link to pic so be prepared for spam]

I have not swapped it with another enclosure to understand if it is the crossover or the driver.
Either way, any chance of finding replacements?

Thanks!

Interesting. The tweeter from an S85:

No extra magnet and a fancier sticker
Also interesting, the S125C tweeter sounds fine in the S85 enclosure, so I assume something else is amiss.
Thoughts?

Perhaps I was a bit premature!
I put the tweeter back in the S125C and then connected it to the right channel of my Denon AVR5700 and compared it to the left channel.
They sound exactly the same.
Then I put the right channel speaker on the center channel of the AVR5700 and there it was: crappy treble. No sizzle goodness.

It would seem my ridiculously expensive, yet 16 year old (!) Denon has an issue.
I can directly hear it, but interestingly, during the Denon built-in white noise DB level test it really sounds different, so I don't think it is a processing anomaly.

This is actually great news since the Denon is worth far less now than the M&Ks. No HDMI and I just began reading/shopping for its replacement.

HI Guys,

A quick question in regards to the side and rear speakers in a 7.1 setup.

Are the SS150 a better 'surround speaker' than the S-150 (L, C or R) speaker?

I see that some members use 5 or 7 of the S 150s - do these perform better as the side and rear's?

Also, how do the S-150s perform with the Paradigm Sub 1 or 2?

Thanks,

Andrew.

It is a matter of preference. I know if one person who prefers direct radiating surrounds and they used the S150's. I and most others I know with MK prefer the tripole surrounds due to the large wrap around effect they give. Yes the 150's will play louder and are more accurate as that is what they are designed to do in a front sound stage. I don't like surrounds that are easy to localise hence I use the tripole surrounds. I also use the Sub1 and it is a match made in heaven.
Dave Vaughn likes this.
