However the receiver keeps shutting down, sometimes randomly and now when I turn up the speakers for a movie. I don't know if it's a 4 ohm issue or just the usual HK suckiness. I'm looking for something new or used, hopefully under $1000.
Denon X4000 seems to handle them just fine.

If you are talking about an angled S150 in room these are no longer made and again must not be rotated 90 degrees.

I would suggest a 950 as it will be a better much with your existing 150's.
Great info, thank you! I am not familiar with the 950 series (Google also came up with nothing) Do you have an exact model number or link to specs / pics? What do you think about running dual 750 THX? Could i splice them together and run them at 4 ohms? My amp is good with loads down to 2 ohms.

Thanks!

The 750 are nowhere near a good as the S150's.

The 950 are a much closer match. They feature the new Pro tweeter.

+1.

The 750s can work quite well with adequate subs and good room cal. But then, that's true of lots of speakers. 950s are a different animal, much better. S150s are simply "the reference".

Caution to all original S150 (non mkII) owners...treat 'em nice, there are no more replacement drivers in the world. MKII drivers are not interchangeable. Blow the center tweet, you'll be buying a used S150 on eBay.

So you scored a great 2.1 system. The S-90s seem to be the hidden gem in the bigger scheme of M&K products over the years. It's a close Kin to the S-5000THX in fact as I've written in other posts , When space constraints doesn't allow the user to use an S-5000thx, the S-90 is recommended as a direct replacement to use in it's place. as a 2 Channel set up the S-90 / V 125 combo will certainly hold it's own against other models in the M&K Line up ( S-125 comes to mind) .

In any case if you're looking at 2 Channel amps for stereo functionality. An ADCOM 555 / 555 II , Carver A500x , are fairly priced on the used market. NAD 2200PE, 2400, 2600a are also very much up to the task. Other brands to keep watch for B&K, Rotel, Parasound. again if you're looking at "previously owned" units there are several options at all price levels.

I STRONGLY recommend getting a high pass filter ( placed between your pre-amp and amp) choke the sats at 80hz and let the sub handle the rest. M&K had a few variations . If you're using an AV pre-amp or receiver. you can sort out hi/low pass within that unit so no need for a separate passive unit , but if your pre-amp doesn't allow for filtering ( most don't , although Parasound's P5 does and is also a solid DAC) you should find a hi pass filter so that you can properly dial in the S-90's to mate with the V-125 sub.

There isn't much chatter out there on the web about the S-90's but it's a great sounding speaker system. Music, Movies the whole nine yards.
