I currently have 3 pair's of 683s2s and a htm61 center I'm looking to upgrade to either 802d's or 803D's and a Htm2 Diamond tweeter center (the largest one) for my front Soundstage.....any ideas where to pick them up at a good/fair price in Southwest Florida?

Planning on getting a new Marantz sr-7008 and Emotiva UPA-200 for my current system.

Fronts: B&W 685 S2

Center: B&W 681 S2

Rears: Klipsch S-20 (soon to be swapped with the 685 S2's)

And I plan on getting a pair of 683 S2's down the road for my fronts. Any other receiver options I should be considering for my speakers? I pretty much plan on using the receiver just to power my center and rears and using the amp to run my fronts. I have a preference to Denon and Marantz and am in need of something that has at least 5.1 channel analog outputs (as I may run a 5 channel power amp at some point). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Depending on the size of your room and preference for playback volume etc something like a nr165o by marantz takes up a lot less space and had everything a sr7008 had except it's much less power s d processing. Minus xt32

I thought about the 1605, but its missing the 5.1 analog outputs that I want. So that won't work.

Makes sense. I have a an sr5009 and I would recommend it. It was not the receiver I was in search of due to the fact that I wanted xt32 and more processing and power than the sr5009. It is a good product tho and Pm if you are interested in basically mint condition used at a fair price

Tried searching for something on this, but no joy ...

I am thinking of upgrading to CM9 s2 for the front and CM8 s2 or CM5 s2 for the surrounds. My concern about the CM8's is the tweeter height will be below ear level and the midrange driver will be below the back of the sofa (the surrounds will be about 3' away and 20 degrees behind. I can fabricate a short box stand (lead filled) to bring the tweeters to ear level but I'm somewhat concerned about changing the coupling of the woofers to the floor. Ironically, I am considering the CM8's instead of the CM5's due to aesthetics.

Also curious as to whether there is any real-world sonic advantage to the CM8 vs CM5 given they will be rolled out @ 60-80 Hz anyway?

There are probably no advantages of using the CM8 instead of the CM5 for surrounds except that you won't need stands. The one possible exception is if you listen to a lot of multi-channel music. Having the midrange driver behind the couch would be a major problem.

Receiver to go with 685 S2

I came into a pair of 685 S2 fronts and wanted your opinion on a receiver. Any suggestions? Thanks!

What's your budget? My first inclination would be to go with Marantz if it is within your budget.

My budget is rather flexible. I would like to get the most out of the speakers but I live in a condo and have to be respectful of the neighbors. I was looking at the Marantz SR 5009 and the Yamaha RX-A840. I like to stream so blue tooth and wifi are preferred.

The SR-5009 would be the better option of the two you listed. If you could push you budget a little you could get the 6009 Marantz which has better amps and more power. I've also seen it drop to $999.99 occasionally so depending on when you buy one, you may get a deal.

Thanks for the suggestion, I actually work at a Magnolia store and I think we have a Denon 4520 that used to be a display that's for sale now, just never heard it running a set of B&W speakers so wasn't sure what to think. I'll have to look into it now, thanks!!

They just dropped the 8801 to 1999 that's an awesome prepro for less than 50% original msrp and then you just grab a nice balanced Class "A" amp

unless you worked at an Magnolia Design Center

the 4520...and SC77 were the nicest receivers I had seen in the Magnolia Home theater location

a few had the Marantz 7701/7055 combo as well

you can get the 8801 for a lot less than that

its a serious closeout piece now as they implement the 8802

it's not the Walmart

interesting

I would say the Yamaha would be the better option

In fact I would snag the Yamaha refurb A1030 from A4L for $549
or troll Magnolia Home theater for their clearance deals

If memory serves the 6xx series of speakers are easy to drive and pleasant to listen to. That said, I've not listened to the 685 S2. But i think B&W wouldn't want to mess to much of the success of this junior line which sells very well.
It would probably work well with tons of receiver amps. From cheap little Lepais to high end Classe (abit overkill).
Pick whichever amp. Concentrate on speaker positioning and room accoustics. Sit back and enjoy.

Agreed. However, the 683 s2 does present 3 ohm dips which may or may not be a problem for some receivers/amplifiers. The 685 S2 shouldn't be a problem (essentially a 6 ohm speaker if averaged). The Denon 4520, Marantz 5009/6009 would be great receivers and most likely plenty of power.
