Well, unfortunately I can't. There were no locally available M1's that I could audition as well as the fact that at that time B&W was in the process of modifying the M1 to change the tweeter to improve response. I had to rely on rating reviews to decide not to go to the extra work to get M1's to listen to.

I was able to "borrow" a pair of Millenia Ones from the local distributor and hung them in place of my Mod 2 L&R for about a week. This was sufficient to convince me that it was worth the change although I have to admit I got the set of 5 at a good discount. I have them paired with a SVS SB13 Ultra sub.

I have been happy with the change to the Paradigms. For music are they as good to listen to as my old DCM Time Window 1A's? Well no, but then putting my Time Windows in our living room (small house) was a non-starter. YMMV

orbs for surrounds in large(r) room

Hi, am replacing my 4 dipoles (surround and rear) for Atmos and adding two ceiling speakers for a total of 6. Am looking at orbs but wondering how they'll be in the room. Room size is about 22' by 22' with listening area roughly in the center. Fronts are Kef monitors with a kef center channel. Am driving with a denon avrx4200w.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

How do the orbs work for just rear surrounds? I've got Salk SongTower & center in the front, 2 Epik subs, but my Salk surrounds are too big to wall mount in my room. Thinking about Orbs to round out to 5.2 to get the surround action going. Thoughts or other recommendations?

Also, what do people use to wall mount them? The Orb mounts or an aftermarket alternative?

How does the NHT SuperZero 2.1 compare to the Orb? I know it's larger but it's in the same ballpark size wise.

Just looking around and noticing these little guys, and was thinking of the mod2x's for L/R and rears with the 4 for center. From what I was able to tell, it looks like the 2's are 4 ohm but the 4's are 8 ohm. Am I right in what I have found or did I read incorrectly? obviously more speakers make more sound, but 2 speakers being pushed at 4ohms and 4 speakers being moved with a 8ohm load are going have quite a different output.

I have a same setup mod2 all around and mod 4 for centre which make a difference to the vocal clarity in my opinion. I like the detailed sound they produce hence why I have kept them for so long. And they are small and look good with the rest of the room deco.

Orb Super 8

I have an Orb Super 8 that has the blown amplifier problem. I've since replaced it so never got around to trying to fix it or pick up a new amplifier from Orb.

I have no use for it anymore, but aside from the amp problem its in excellent shape and I still have the original box and shipping materials. If you think you'd like to try to fix it or pick up a new amp ($150 I think), you can have it for shipping costs.,

If you're interested please PM me. It may take me a day or two to get back to you.

Just curious for those who have these. Would you recommend them for a 20x20 room? I was looking at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JKO8QRG?...sp_detail_page

But then just today I saw an open box deal for $220 0n these... http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Quinte...ct_top?ie=UTF8

What would you guys recommend?

Hello guys, a quick inquiry:

I just bought 10 single orb speakers, no stands and no sub. Will use 4 Kef subs I already own, and I plan to get stands directly from Orb site.

I plan to put 4 orbs together for Center Channel, Kef Q100 monitors for L/R fronts, and the remaining orbs (6) for surrounds and/or Atmos.

However I have my doubts as to how the mod4 center will work. Putting 4 speakers together will make them 2 ohms? How difficult will they be to drive? I have research all around and opinions are that no more than one speaker should be used for center channel.

Any thoughts? Or should I just used them as mod2s, or maybe two mod4s for L/R?

YEEEZZZ!

Oh, my receiver is a Pioneer SC 85, that can easily take a 4 ohm load, but not sure about 2 ohm. I also have a Crown XLS 1500 if needed.

If you do series/parallel hook-up, instead of all parallel, you'll get 8 Ohms.
With that said, having a center speaker that isn't voiced (designed to sound) like your main left/right speakers will sound funny as things move across the stage.

So much media, so little time...

Yes, thanks man. I've been researching and there is a very precise lay out on how to hook mod4s at the Orb site.

Question that remains is: Is there a compromise in sound if you use more than one speaker as a center? General opinion is that is not a good idea.

Well an Orb Mod-4 isn't really more than 1 speaker, it's multiple drivers, to create a single speaker, at least that's how Orb sells them...

http://www.orbaudio.com/mod4singlepack.aspx

And I'll say it again, using a speaker from a different manufacturer, or even a different series from a single manufacturer, for a center channel is a bad idea...

I'd go with a KEF center channel and use the orbs for Surround and Height (Atmos)

Thanks a lot for your time, man.
Actually my current 7.4.2 (5.4.4) setup comprises:

- Kef 3000 series for center and surrounds.
- Kef Q100s for fronts.
- Two Kube 2 subs at front of room and two wireless HTB2 subs at the back.
- Crown XLS 1500 runs the Q100s.
- Emotiva A500 BasX runs center, surrounds and back surrounds.
- Pioneer SC-85 takes care of the Atmos.
- A Crown XLS 1502 will soon take care of Atmos too, releasing the SC-85 of any amplifying duty.

The sound is stunning for both music (Optimum Surround and Direct Modes) and movies (Neo: X Cinema, Neo: X Music and Direct Modes), except, yes, for the center channel, no matter what equalization or calibration I try, probably due to the power of the Q100s that the 3000 series center channel can´t handle . So, since I got the Orbs for a bargain (10 mint spheres for 250 bucks, shipped free, with a Klipsch sub) I was thinking of the Mod4 due to raving reviews on the sound of Mod4s 5.1.

I´m aware that best option is a matching Q series central speaker, but since I have the Orbs, no damage in asking. Last night I was researching and found a thread that discussed side by side dual central speakers. Long story short, it works only if speakers are run by independent amplifiers and not bi-wired. So, this weekend I will hook a second 3000 central channel powered by the Emotiva, with a Y splitter in the central channel output of the SC-85. Will post my impressions soon. And will try the Mod4 too, once I receive the stand from Orb.

Best regards.
