with those options, i would go with the 850's, if you have to ability to add speakers at a later time. these speakers will blow you away and have the ability to function well in both HT and 2 channel music. with more power they only get better. with the speakers presented, i believe the 850's have the ability to vastly out-perform your other options.

disclaimer, i own 850's, 450's, and 300's and love them.

I have the option to buy 2 Rocket 850s for $900 (used but in good condition) or buy brand new Energy RC-30 ($300 each) ... I also have a couple Klipsch WF-34s $1000 for both) coming in to test out. And I also have the option to buy the ELT525 5.0 setup for 799. What do you guys think?
I'm replacing my Onkyo 790 7.1 speakers. I don't mind getting just the towers now and buying my surrounds later.

I don't own any of those speakers. My advice is simple. Buy the best main speakers you can afford. I haven't owned a center channel in 8 years and never plan on it. As for surrounds, I will never spend much money on them. I don't listen to multi-channel music and for what comes out of them for movies, it just doesn't make sense to me to invest much in them.

After mains, comes the sub, then surrounds.

YMMV of course.

I'm really quite impressed with the ELT525 towers, even for movies. Just this morning I played a few clips of The Dark Knight on Blu. The 525's paired with an Onkyo 806 make for a sweet combo.

I'm replacing my Onkyo 790 7.1 speakers. I don't mind getting just the towers now and buying my surrounds later.

I auditioned and was considering the Klipsch WF-35's. I found these were much better than the WF-34's. I also auditioned the Klipsch Reference RF-63. I lnow own the Rocket 850/450/big foot setup. I like these speakers better than the Klipsch reference. I feel the sound and look better. They are both equally huge though. The Icon WF-35's are some of the best looking klipsch speakers. They sound decent. I liked the sound, the hghs from the horn tweeter were pretty decent. Some might not like the horn sound as too bright or something. They are not bad. I didn't listen too much to the 34's, as I felt the 35's were pretty superior.

However, I think you will find that the 850's sound better than the Klipsch. They are gorgeous speakers too. Much more detail and way more lower end. If you are not going to run a sub, that can be quite important. However, the 850's are rather large suckers. Some people may find them just too intimidating for their home, in which case the klipsch might be more acceptable. Size wise these are about on par with the Rocket 450's.

One thing to ask is if the Rockets are the signature line (have an improved crossover, much better sounding), or the older non-sig design. I would not buy them if they are not signature rockets.

Also, have you considered a 450 package? Those are great. Some of the deals on on the AV 123 site are amazing. I think the 450's are ready to ship, and you could get a 5 channel 450 setup for less than $200 more than those Klipsch. This will give you 4 450's plus the awesome rocket bigfoot RSC200 center. I would do this in a heartbeat!! Or, if you can wait till march and want the bigger towers do the 850/450/200 package.

hey all

im strongly considering getting the ELT525 5.0 system from AV123 and was wondering what sub would be a good fit for it? I took a look at the MFW-15, but its a bit out of my budget, and its too large for the room. Im looking for something around or under $500

The room is about: 11'x20'x8'
and Im using a Denon 789

any help would be appreciated.

For a good sub, you can check out SVS PB10-NSD.

I have the ELT525 Package (towers, center, monitors) along with the PB10-NSD and it sounds great for a 5.1 system!!!

Correction ... its the 750 and it doesn't have the Ninja crossover that I believe you were referring to. Do you think I should pass on them. They do look freakin' sweet. I'm looking that the 450 package right now. The bigfoot is going to end up in my livingroom one way or another whether I buy it separately or I buy the 450 package. What do you think? Should I go for the 450 package or the 750 towers? Is the 750 that big of a difference? Another correction ... he told me that it has the Danny Richie-designed Ninja Master crossover which is higher-end than either the classic or sig crossover.

Thanks for your reply ... I'm pretty sure I will be going with AV123 and passing on the Klipsch. They look so freakin' sweet. Does the fact that they're 750 and not 850 make you change your mind though?

Makes sense, as long as people re-read the bold parts together. Some people / setups will benefit from a center, more so than the sub for some.

I added YMMV, but hopefully people will read everything on threads that way as pretty much everything we post is simply opinion anyway.

I remember when I had a center, I was constantly adjusting the volume for movies. What a PITA, now I just watch and listen to movies. One less thing to fiddle with and keep me from enjoying movies and music.

I believe the 750's were replaced by the 760's. I would find out the difference and as to why the needed upgrade.

If the 750s have the Ninja Master XO, get them.

I have it in my RSC200 Classic, and have them on order for my RS1Ks.

I am a HT pj nut for years.
Started as a SWL at age of 12 now 61.
The mistake I made was having the CC to small (5+).
You know Vol. up. Vol down. Voice is so hard to reproduce.
I have Polk L/R very small speakers. C2 CC.
I will replace them in time. With AV123.
A friend of mine has rockets for years. Man they are it.
I will rec. the Bigfoot on Friday this week. And if the UPS man does not kill me 50 lbs. lol I will buy Him lunch.
I am using a Sony S800 6.1 Reciever.
I have friends coming over for movie night Wall-E Friday.
1080p Blu-Ray. 110" screen.
I called AV123 this week the 1st time. Kyle was great.

It appears that the X-MTM is no longer available. I don't see it on the product pages. Is anyone going to miss it?

Received my ELT package last week. After some tweaking they are sounding better and better everyday. Excuse the quality of the photos but photography is not my first love. Build quality is superb and it's definitely a step up from my last setup (Paradigm Titan fronts, Atoms rear, cc270).

Quick question in case anyone knows, else, I'll call AV123 tomorrow:

Any idea how long the RS450's will be on sale? Just got the darned homeowners insurance bill today, so the speakers get pushed off another month.

I just got off the phone with AV123 much earlier in the day and was asking the same thing regarding their current deals. From what I was told they'll run the rest of the month and possibly very much likely into next month as well I was glad to hear that because I'm on the fence with getting the 850 package. Only problem right now is trying to get the 450's past the girlfriend and into the family room. I've really wanted the 250's but not sure if their going to be available again. I was told the the ELT525M would be a solid contender for surround duty with this system as well.

I just received my 850 package.

Holy cow, I'm very impressed. The packaging was stunning... double boxed, extra padding, cloth covering the speaker and white gloves to handle them..

I only played a few tunes through them last night and needless to say, I VERY impressed.

BTW I'm also running an Emotiva xpa5

WOOHOOOO!! Looks like my HT will be complete by next week. I called AV123 today to make sure my email was correct b/c I didn't receive a confirmation email about my order for the RSC200 thats supposed ship out on March 15th. Not only did I correct my email, but I was asked if I wanted my order shipped out Monday ... HELLZ YEAH!!!!! Then I asked about 525M monitors and if they were good enough to go with the RSC200 and my incoming 750s and I was offered their B-stock 525Ms that were only used for a photo shoot. So instead of paying 299 for each pair, I bought 2 pairs for 179/per pair. NICE!!!! Can't wait for next week. I'll throw up some pix and review when I get a chance (keep in mind though, I am no audiophile ... I think my Onkyo stock speakers sound deascant so I'll be comparing the Rockets to those Onkyos LOL).

Hmmm.......that's pretty odd then, maybe you caught them before their dilemma. I spoke with Jess and I guess their supplier for the drivers picked up and moved operations to India and they have no resources available any longer to AV123. This includes the drivers that are needed for all the Rocket speakers on their site that state "TBD" for availability. This is the same story for the Stratus Mini as well. I would really like to have the 250's for the surrounds but their just not offered anymore and right now they have now idea if and when they will be again.

Congrats on that awesome 850 package! This current deal is just crazy good. Just curious, did you stay with the 450's for surrounds? I was taking some measurements in my room today and it looks like with the height of the 450 they would be better situated on some type of stand or pedestal to get that tweeter higher up.

Nice choice in amp as well, eventually I plan on running one as well. Please post some pictures of your Rockets if your able to.

Do the out of stock Rockets use different drivers than the in stock ones?

I think the 450s as surrounds is overkill for a lot of us and having a smaller speaker packaged with the 850s & bigfoot would be great. Especially at a lower price. If I buy the package as its currently structured, I could see 450s as mains in another system or selling them. I would look for used 250s or 300s as surrounds.

From what I remember Jess stating, looks like a driver is particular to each of their particular model enclosures as well as components and made to their specifications. When I first enquired about the 250's that's what I found out. Then I began to ask about other models as well as the Minis and the answer was the same.

I agree that for most the 450 would be overwhelming, not to take away the performance characteristics but it's obviously not your typical surround With the 850 package and having the ELT525M's for surrounds instead of the 450's I believe I was quoted $1469.

Only problem right now is trying to get the 450's past the girlfriend and into the family room.

From the front, the 450's don't look that big at all. From the side, well, now that's a different story. They are kinda long, front to back.

Yeah.....your definitely right about the depth, that's what's really killing me on these. Also the fact that I have a 3 1/2 year old son that I have to contend with. If that wasn't the case I would have pulled the trigger already, but obviously I wouldn't trade that situation for the world. I've got my work cut out for me as far as speaker decisions
