I'm looking for some help in choosing between satellites for a 2.1 music system.

This will be for a small living room and the speakers will be wall mounted. I'll be bringing my own sub into the mix (a Martin Logan Dynamo 200w) and I'm thinking about an AVR with bass management to drive these (any suggestions?).

I'm leaning towards the A'divas vs the Micro's, but more importantly, I wanted to see if anyone has directly compared the new SE versions to the older Ti versions and seen much of a difference.

The Ti drivers are rated at 88-89db into 8ohms whereas
the SE drivers are rated 85db into 4ohms, which is quite a bit harder to drive.

So, three Q's:

1. What AVR or 2.1 capable amp?
2. Go A'diva's or micros?
3. SE or Ti?

Now I'm looking for a fix. Tried putting some memory foam in there to damp it and snug the fit, but it still rattles when I tap it. Any observations or suggestions appreciated.
No one has Strada floor stands?

I have 5 Strada speakers and 2 of them are on floor stands. I have not noticed any buzzing or clipping sound from any of the speakers (or stands) even at high volume peaks during movies.

I suggest contacting Gallo's customer service. Perhaps your plastic cover piece is defective.

Thanks for the reply. I did contact Gallo and was told the issue would be passed along to Anthony, but so far I haven't heard anything back.

Just curious if you tap in the middle of the plastic cover on the top back of a floor stand, do you get a hollow, plastic, clinky sound? It's really obvious on mine. The buzzy sound during music only happens at certain frequencies and volume, so not surprising it would be rarely heard.

Here's a Dropbox link to a mp3 recording of me tapping on the top of the speaker, the top of the plastic cover, and the middle of the cover: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7zfrf8ipl4...rada_cover.mp3

I played your .mp3 file through my iPhone while tapping (using a fingernail) the same areas of the speaker and stand as you recorded. Your recorded sounds were much worse than the sounds I was generating.

Something does not seem right. Either they changed the design of the cover piece or the supplier decided to cut some costs (probably without authorization from Gallo) and built a bad batch.

If the backs of the speaker stands are not visible, if I were you, I'd remove the plastic cover pieces until Gallo comes up with a fix.

Thanks for that info. I've had the covers off since I discovered they were causing the buzzing. But the backs are visible so I'd like to find a fix. I'll update if I get an answer from Gallo.

I've had the ref 3.1's for about 5yrs now and been driving them with a Cambridge Audio Azur 640R. A week ago the receiver was done in by a lightning strike. After researching a replacement I decided to purchase a Krell s300i integrated. I would like to hear from anyone who has experienced this combination or even a similar Krell amp. Thanx in advance.

That happened to me on loud piano with the bookshelf stands. Some double-sided tape between the speakers and the mounting plate fixed it.

Good suggestion. The plastic cover on the floor stands is a bit different than the bookshelf stand plate, but the tape might work. Easy enough to try. Still no word from Gallo.

Hello everyone!

I would like to know if anyone has used any other type of floor stand for the nucleus micros than the Anthony Gallo "Wallflower" stands. There's gotta be some type of floor stand out there that can be used that doesn't involve spending $300 on a pair of Gallo stands. Oh, and I don't want to wall mount or table mount them. These stands would be for the main L/R speakers. Anyone have any alternatives?

I havent heard Gallos with Krell but I have used MF integrateds,Gryphon integrated with both the 3.1 and my current 3.5's.

I would suspect the Krell could be a little bit bright with Gallo's . I was never happy with any of the integrated amps that I had, even the Gryphon which retailed a few yrs back at @ $8K Australian. Was a bit too lean and clean.

Having sold all that gear,I got myself a Conrad Johnson tube pre with a 10 yr old ATC power amp and voila!!!........fantastic.

IMO,the Gallos need a touch of warmth thrown in

Question Dolby Atmos

What do y'all think of using A'Diva SE's for ceiling speakers in a Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 set up?

The 5 main speakers would be either A'Diva SE's or Strada 2's (still figuring out budget .

I'm using a pair of the Strada 2 - along with 4 subwoofers - in a 2-channel set-up that is also used with video. My goal is to extend the bass response of the Strada 2 so that I can relocate a woofer to another part of the room and, in doing so, further smooth bass response. One option is wall-mounting the units but the permanent nature - coupled with difficulty in figuring out the best location - makes this unappealing. Another option seems to be getting floor bass enhancement via the Mapleshade Stands but I'm concerned that sound would appear to come from the floor which would be especially disconcerting for movies. Has anyone tried the Mapleshade stands and, if so, then how does the location impact presentation? And are there guidelines for wall mounting the Strada's in terms of separation etc.?

Reference Replacement

There was a rumor, earlier this year, that Anthony Gallo was working on a replacement for the Ref 3.5. The details were to be announced later in the year. To date, apparently no specifics are forthcoming. Anyone have any updated information about the possibility of a new Gallo loudspeaker?

Two Strada 2 questions?

The wife wants me to downsize my speakers, so I'm considering the Strada 2's.

I have two questions for your consideration:

Would you do one TR-3D sub or two TR-1D's?

How do the Strada's do with tube amps? I have two VTL-225 monoblocks, about 200 watts per channel with 6550 tubes that are not overly tubey sounding, just very nicely slightly warm and liquid.

Thought's?

Thanks!

Take 2 TR-1D, they are same as tr3d, difference is in power.
I had two tr-3d, and power level was on 35%.

I am not sure how you would improve the Ref 3.5 without perhaps fundamentally messing with the Tweeter? I know it was more of a manufacturing cost issue than anything else. It may be possible to improve the micro-detail, it's not quite up to the ribbon speakers I have heard, but very close. I am really very happy with my Ref 3.5, there may be other speakers that do one or two things better, but then not by much, and none of those speakers have the all around performance that my Ref 3.5's have, at least in a moderate sized room. I can sit back and really enjoy the music.

As for tube amps, I think they are very nice with the Gallo speakers. I ran mine with a Van Alstine U70 for a while and was very happy.

I was told by an impeccable source that Anthony is working on a new floor standing speaker and is "under pressure to get a significant amount of work done on it before the end of the year."

There's also the fact that the 3.5 has been discontinued. So, something major appears to be coming in the not distant future.

I agree with the other poster, two TR-1D's is preferable. Same exact speaker but more total watts than one TR-3D, more flexibility and better imaging if you use a crossover above 80 Hz, which is very common with Stradas. I have two TR-1D's and in my 30x15 room they're set below 50% and Audyssey still lowers it by 6db, so more than enough output.

I prefer SVS sound but you may find TR3s more fitting. My other advise is to get two subs. You will get much better integration.
Hi I am in the middle of looking at subs. I just demoed the SB2000 and was wondering what was it about the SVS that you preferred over the TR3 (I assume tr3d?)

Thanks heaps

They go a bit deeper, as musical and, here in Australia, they are almost half the price. Again if the space is an issue TR3D could be a better option, especially if you are planning two subs.

Thanks for that macuniverse. Yeah the AG's are much more expensive here. close to $1.6k.
That's close to a dual SB-2000 or PB-2000.

The roundsound website for AG in Australia has the Reference 4 as a product listed and release as 'tba'.
