I would contact Gallo customer service with that request. Otherwise you may not get the same consistency of gell.

So much media, so little time...

I haven't but this guy claims to have extensively compared the Gallo 3.5 and Triton Two (2nd post):

http://forums.audioholics.com/forums...-adagio.81324/

To summarize, he says Gallo "smokes" the Triton on all counts.

Driving Ref 3.5 2nd Woofer Voice Coil

This topic has remained dormant for awhile. While looking for any information I could find on the web regarding a possible Ref 3.5 replacement I found an early review on the Ref 3 from 2004 on the 6Moons website. The reviewer used a passive crossover with an amplifier to drive the 2nd voice coil of the Ref 3.

The crossover is manufactured by Harrison Laboratory and is called FMOD. Here is the link:

http://www.hlabs.com/products/crossovers/

I have not tried this but the concept intrigues me for its simplicity. All you would need to add is a volume controlled amplifier and cables.

Hi -

I'm seeing Gallo Strada 2's down in the $650-660 range at a couple of these online outfits like NewAudioVideo, AudiophileLiquidator - and also at a joint in WI called HiFi Heaven.

Anyone familiar with these places and their level of trustworthiness? I will have to ask them of course if they're authorized Gallo dealers, which I doubt - and which I suppose means the Gallo warranty wouldn't apply, correct?

Is it inherently suspicious to see these speakers at this price?

Thanks so much for any thoughts!
Andrew

I don't know about the others, but HiFi Heaven is authorized - that said, the price range you are quoting is for Stradas, not Strada 2s.

HiFi Heaven will work with you on trade-ins.

Hope that helps...

I bought my Stradas and a TR-1D from Hifi Heaven. Good prices, no issues. They did exactly what they said they would do. They're also an authorized dealer, so when my TR-1D died after one year I got a quick replacement directly from Gallo. I looked into some of the other sellers offering much lower prices and found reports of bogus business addresses, foreign owned companies, non-delivery of promised goods, delivery of defective products, and no Gallo warranty coverage. I can only suggest some Google research and buyer beware.

Good to know, thanks Abalone. I will probably pull the trigger w HiFi heaven in the next couple of days.

I'm pairing with a Cambridge Audio Azur 351R, btw...will get a single Gallo A'diva SE for center channel, and probably fly with no sub or surrounds for the time being (this s*** gets expensive). Equal duty, music and movies/TV. Any thoughts welcome - will I badly miss having the sub, e.g. Eventually I'll find a cheap TR-1D on eBay or something and incorporate...and get some Nucleus's for surrounds.

The short answer is yes, you'll likely miss not having any bass without a sub. The Stradas weren't designed for full range. We each have our own preferences and expectations, but if you're investing in Stradas for sound quality you'll probably want some bottom end. Don't hesitate to make HiFi Heaven an offer for a package deal. I also got a very good price directly from Gallo on a 2nd TR-1D, so I'd suggest contacting them to see what they can offer.

anthony gallo 3.1 repair

Hi all,

Just found this thread. I have had the AG ref 3.1 for about five years. I bought them used from a dealer going out of business. I have the SA as well driving the lower speakers. I have loved them for the time I have owned them. However my 18 month old daughter has taken apart the midrange speakers. She removed the middle of the mid range speakers. Just picked off the piece in the middle. I would like to get them repaired. The website suggests the only option is to send them back to AG and that I must be the original owner etc. Anyone know of aftermarket repairs or other thoughts?

Would hate to get rid of these as the remainder of the speaker works great.

Thanks

Rob

Strada 2 HT System 1

I'm considering this for my upstairs HT system. I also do a lot of music listening upstairs and want a system that does well with both.

I have two questions. One, is the fact that the A'Diva SE surround speakers 4 ohm nominal impedance a problem with a good HT receiver?

Two, is anyone using this system or similar with an HT receiver, and what would you recommend?

Thanks.

Don't have the A'Diva surrounds, so can't comment on them, or 4 ohm speakers, but re: a receiver I'll put in a plug for the Denon AVR-X4000. I'm sitting here listening to some Antonio Forcione & Charlie Haden on my Stradas and TR-1Ds and the musicality, detail, imaging, and presence is amazing. Like they're in the room with me. Audyssey has been praised and panned, but with a bit of tweaking it works great for me. That Denon also does HT very well.

Great to know. I have that same receiver and was just auditioning the Stradas on Monday. (I have been given the word by my "other" that I need to replace my current tower speakers [AV123 Strata Minis] which are currently set up in the living room).

I was pretty impressed with the somewhat casual listening audition. (I was in LA for a conference, so I swung by Ahead Stereo on the drive home). The Stradas had the clarity, air and spaciousness of electrostatics/ribbons and, surprising since they were running without a sub, a fair amount of bass and "weight" behind the instruments. It was just the sonic signature I was looking for in a more "lifestyle" sized speaker.

Still, I'm sure I'll want to throw some more amp power at the speakers at some point. (I was listening to them on a McIntosh integrated, which sounded lovely, but I consider that brand to be a form of audio jewelry). Do people generally throw solid AB amp power at them, or are people beginning to use Class D? (Ice modules, etc.)?

I have the Ref 3.5 and they sound incredibly transparent with my Van Alstine U70. Although conventional wisdom is that you need to throw a lot of power at Gallos I found the 35 tube watts to be fine, with the exception of not much in the bass, though that might have been a function of the Dac Magic Plus I was using. Generally I have them driven with my HK 990 which gives them about 150 watts a side. I haven't heard any of the ICE amps with them but if I were building from scratch I would consider a 50-60 watt tube amp, or even the U70 as you won't be getting much bass with just the Stradas anyway.

Tubes really match up with that tweeter nicely.

Rob,

You mean warranty work must be original owner? I would think that they would fix it if you paid them for the parts and labor. Did you communicate with them directly your circumstance? If you are handy, maybe they can sell you the part and you can put it in yourself.

BTW, I have a single brand new Strada floor stand I would like to get rid of at a big discount from MSRP, so if anyone is interested, send me a PM.

I saw that Underwood hifi purchased and is selling the the remaining stock of the Classico 3 and 4 for heavily discounted prices. Does anybody know what Gallo is up to. They do not currently have a floor standing speaker with the Classico and 3.5 discontinued.

He's working on a new floor standing speaker. AFAIK no other details are public.

The NuPrime is surprisingly excellent, great choice. I'll be comparing the IDA-16 to their separates, ST-10 & DAC 10.

I would agree, that it would be difficult to make much improvement, except to move to those two separates, especially for the price.

Hi Folks,

I'm new here and am hoping for some advice.

I'm refitting my living room and home theater setup, which I plan to use both for music and TV/movies. A friend recommended the A'Diva 5.1 system. The reviews look great, but I have a very large space am concerned that these won't adequately fill it. The room is 28' x 18' and has 28' ceilings. The actual viewing and primary listening area is about 18' x '14' (also with the 28' ceilings) and is open to the rest of the room. Will these do the job? How about A'Diva SE 5.1 system?

Thanks in advance,
Aari

Hi Aari,

It really depends on how loud you want to go. No small speaker will give you "Rock Concert" volumes in that space, but the A'Diva system will fill your space with great sound at reasonable levels.

Best, Barry

Thanks Barry. I'm definitely not looking for rock concert volumes - its an apt and my neighbors would probably have me thrown out - but I do want it to fill the space without having to crank it all the way up. Do you think I would need the SEs or will the regular A'Diva be sufficient?

Thanks,
Aari
