I am looking for a pair of extremely slim tower speakers with excellent fidelity to possibly replace my Totem Arros in my 3rd system. I PVR'ed House today and there was a good shot of his speakers. I trust these are high end since he also has a SOTA turntable. It looks like the speakers have a ribbon tweeter. Please let me know what speakers these are because I can't identify them. I even looked at the credits from the Season two DVD where they list the promotional items used and I didn't recognize any speaker brands.

I think they are Piega speakers, a Swiss company. They are aluminum cabinets with a ribbon tweeter and some sort of aluminum midwoofers.

AudioArchitect - Thanks for the response - that's what I thought - I've been googling like crazy "ribbon tweeter" "two woofer" "slim" "floor" to get a hit. Piega came up a lot but I didn't see a close match on their website. I looked at their older models too. Piega uses cabinets for their speakers whereas House's speaker appears to be an open baffle. Monitor Audio has a platinum series that use ribbons and have similar looking tweeters but those aren't it either.

That's weird. I was watching last week's Scrubs and I noticed that Dr. Cox has what looks to be Orb surrounds behind his couch.

I'm glad I'm not the only nerd who notices these things.

How about we have a go at a list for all product placements for speakers in movies and tv shows?
I'll start.....
Wasn't there a set of Martin Logans in "Friends"?
The guy from CSI Vegas has Mac.....

New thread to start...

I am watching house and I see these speakers again. This is a cheap bump as this is still driving me crazy.

If it's driving you THAT crazy, why not just write a letter to the producers?

I've considered doing that however, I honestly thought I would get a response here faster (assuming the producer actually got back to me).

Sorry, this will probably frustrate you that I don't have the answer but now I am intrigued and have been doing a little looking around myself.
They look similar in design to some of Dalis speakers. But those grills...I could have sworn I've seen something like that before. There see-through and don't fully cover the drivers, and there curved...

Tanaka,

I am not that frustrated . Those "string" type grills were used on Krell speakers and I believe they copied / got permission to do the same them from Sonus Faber.

Maybe its just a prop. If you've been looking around extensively and turned up nothing it seems unlikely that a high profile show would go out of its way to get a speaker that is so unknown. More likely its not even real.

Wash you mouth with soap 3 times It is unlikely the props are have ribbon tweeters and nice wood finishes. He does have a SOTA table which is not that rare but not that common and I recall House using Grado Headphones. What I am thinking is that the speaker is a custom one made by an independent. Kind of like the Morrison speakers. When I start losing hair, I will write the producers.

I found a Phillips on Amazon? A Phillips MX5800 or MX5900SA home system.

Kude,

thank you - you hit the jackpot

Here is the strange thing. One of the company names mentioned in the credits is phillips and I did a search on the phillipsusa website and came out empty before I originally posted. I just now searched Phillips website and still can't find the MX5800 but it does exist on other sites when you google Phillips and MX5800. It looks like a European model based on the languages. I can sleep tonight. You found the needle in the haystack. Thanks again. Now I need to go on quest to see if I can find these speakers locally. Who would have thought that these speakers are part of a "HTIB" package

I'm glad I could help, I hate to see a fellow member lose sleep or hair for that matter. I needed a diversion from doing my taxes, and I like a good mystery.

I found it on Amazon, and then I couldn't refind it. I tried to post a link, but I guess the system won't let me yet. Good luck finding this system. Let us know how they sound someday.

BTW, Amazon offers the 5600 for $450 US.

Best Regards,

kude

Me

I think it would be generally more useful if everyone new to these forums is reminded that they are constantly being marketed to and pitched by people who post their affiliations and many others who do not. This is all part of marketing and advertising and you, the consumer, are the targets.

Here is the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Philips-MX5600...5872269&sr=1-7

Though I can't imagine why you'd want it. I doubt it sounds very good.

damn that link doesn't work. I can't judge a book by its cover. However you are probably right in that the speakers in this HTIB package probably do not sound better than my Totem Arros. I am disappointed with Dr House. I thought he would have better standards for his speakers. Well "everybody lies"
