I got approved for 1000.00 futureshop card and I want to spend it on speakers. So they have to be from Futureshop. Can someone please tell me what speakers I should get? Im more of a videophile and don't know to much about audio. I would spend upto 1000.00 on just the fronts alone, but if I can get the fronts and 4 rears(7.1) that would be great. It's for a basement that medium size but I like to listen to movies and music LOUD. I got a 12" Cerwin Vega Sub. Are any of these speakers worth considering? If there fronts are all crap then Id be willing to just get 4 souround speakers and get the fronts somewhere else. THanks

forget the 7.1, go with 5.1 for your budget.

do you have a receiver ?

I'm a futureshop audio expert. I think you'll be better asking your questions to your future shop expert because he better know, more than many people here, how what it has to offer sound like.

A high quality 5.1 kit would be:
RTI4 front and rear pair
csi 3 center

It will respect your budget.

If you like soft sound with less tweeter:
Athena 300 serie front and 100 rear
matching center

Other option for stereo pleasure:
Polk RTI 8 floorstanding speakers pair.

I work in quebec place laurier store if you have questions

Do you care at all about listening to 2 channel music or are you just gonna blast movies all the time? Just get a couple of athena bookshelves and a sub from SVS if all youre going to do is watch movies.

Well, I also watch alot of concert dvds. Id rather get help from someone here then a futureshop "expert" because I would hardly call the employess of the futureshop near me experts in anything. Im sure in Quebec you guys have better trained employees then we have here in Toronto. Ive tried doing some research on a few of the models and I can't find any decent reviews. Man, buying speakers is a pain in the ass.

Maybe I'll just list some of the speakers that seem like they might work for me.

Floorstanding:

Athena Floor Standing Speaker (LS-500B)
Athena Floorstanding Speaker (LS-300B)
Athena Thin Floor Speakers (WS-100B)
JBL 2-Way Floor Speaker (CST55)
JBL Stadium 3-Way Floor Speakers
Polk Audio Floor Speakers (RTI10)
Polk Audio RTi8 Tower Speakers

Bookshelf:

Athena Bookshelf Speakers (LS-100B)
Athena Thin Bookshelf Speakers (WS-15B)
JBL Balcony 2-Way On-Wall Speaker
JBL Monitor 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker
Polk Audio Bookshelf Speaker (RTi4)
Polk Audio Bookshelf Speakers (RTi6)
Polk Audio FXi3 Bookshelf Speakers

Thats all they have in stock at my futureshop right now. It looks like I can go with a Polk system, JBL system, or Athena System. Dont worry about the price. If it goes over 1000.00 (my current limit) I'll save up some more cash and get the rest of my speakers at a latter date. I just want to make sure I get something with quality. I don't want to upgrade for a long time. BTW. I have a PSB center which I really like and think will keep.

Main use for speakers will be movies. I will also use them alot with concert dvds (multi channel) I won't really be doing any stereo listening. I want speakers that are dynamic, alot of range. I like really crisp highs. I wan't something to blow me away while watching movies. If you need any more info please let me know.

Can you go to the shop and listen to them? If so, that is what I'd suggest. And I'd make darn sure I had a way to pay the money back.

Everything I say here is my opinion. It is not my employers opinion, it is not my wife's opinion, it is not my neighbors opinion, it is My Opinion.

the best thing about future shop is you can return speakers for a full refund plus the environment is not snooty so you can hang around and audition

Athena is the best speaker brand that FS offers. Your sub could use improving as well. Don't get the Sony receiver, it's overpriced and outclassed by everything else on the market. FS sells HK and Yamaha which are both far superior receiver offerings.

Athena was good with last year models B1 B2 F1 F2..but this year LS series is not that great..

6.1 over 5.1 will give you nothing more but more expense for the moment...not enought 6.1 content.

Main use for speakers will be movies. I will also use them alot with concert dvds (multi channel) I won't really be doing any stereo listening. I want speakers that are dynamic, alot of range. I like really crisp highs

Everything in this sentence confirm that you need Polk audio speakers! Still I prefer 5.1 setup to 6.1 because you have to buy 2 speaker pair for rear!

here's the ideal kit if you can afford it:
Polk RTI 8 front
Polk FXI3 rear or RTI4 ( 2 pair for 6.1 or 7.1)

Keep your center and your subwoofer if you want

you can also choose bookshelf with excellent sound quality.
RTI6 front
FXI3 rear or RTI4 ( 2 pair for 6.1 or 5.1)

Also in JBL:
3 way stadium front floorstander
rear jbl monitors

no bookshelf kit recommended.

Jbl has a very good sound for movies (used in many cinemas), tweeter is little less detailed compared to polk, mids sound different too. you'll have to listen.

On a budget for a receiver here's the prefered choice usually better than sony offering:

Pioneer 1016 ( well balanced, full featured and punchy receiver)
Harman kardon AVR 245 ( little more bright)
Pioneer 816 ( best bargain on the market)
Yamaha 5960 ( good match with polk, very smooth natural sound)

Can I be the first one to suggest that if you don't have the $1000 in the bank, you shouldn't be buying speakers?
