When completed he'll have on wall mains w/a matching on wall center. As the time gets closer we should find out what goodies he's going to bring. Interesting times are coming up at Aerial.
Any update on an expected release date for the center channel speaker(s)?

Hi all, Does anyone know a fool proof way to tell the difference between a CC3 and CC3B?
Thanks!

The CC-3 is 24"Wx9.5Hx11D. The CC-3B is 24Wx8.8Hx12.5D.

Thanks Class A... I was not sure if there was a period of time when the box size was changed to the smaller height but still considered a CC3 (non B) version?

The box size changed when Michael developed the 3B.

Hi. I'm thinking of getting an original CC3 used (obviously). Pricing seems to be in $400-500. Putting aside timbre matching fronts, is a used cc3 for $500 deal? I mean its an 18 year old speaker design, and the speaker itself is probably over 10 years old. All the reviews of the cc3 are glowing, but has speaker tech advanced enough such that new speakers at that price point, or a lightly higher price point, might be significantly better? I'm bouncing between the Horizon center for !$1000 (NrT version) and the used CC3 for ~$500. My main usage is TV, so I really want the best dialog possible. Amp is an outlaw M200.

Any advice on getting a used CC3 version something else in the under $1000 range is greatly appreciated.

Yamaha RX-A820 | Panasonic TC-P54S2 | No fronts! I need some, Aerial CC3 center | Def Tech BP2X sides | NHT SuperZero Heights
Streamer: Zotac ZBox ID41 (OpenELEC) | Linux media server (XBMC DB and Plex MS)
Computer area: MartinLogan Motion LX16's | NAD D3020 | DefTech ProSub 60, DAC•IT->Crack
cans: DT770/250, Shure SHR1540, DT-990/250 , T90, Grado RS2e & SR225e, Senn IE80

I bought my CC3B used for around 550 so think that is the market. I believe there is one on Ebay now for around the the same. Condition is key as the black paint can chip and scratch over time. If you leave out in the open then that could be something to think about.

Sound wise, it is a fantastic speaker and dialog has never been clearer in my system with it. Mine is driven by a Bryston 9BST which seems to be a good match for it. Before the Aerial, I had a Martin Logan center and the Aerial was a step up for me.

I bought a used CC3 to go with my 7T's. I believe I paid 600 including shipping. It was in very good condition and matches well the the T's. It kicks the crap out og my old Definitive Technology C/L/R 3000 on dialog quality.

I've had the CC-3 w/my 6's for years. I have no intention of upgrading, it's that good. One thing to make you aware, the CC-3 is 9.5" high. If your going to store it in a HT furniture setup make sure you have enough room.

There are a few on ebay right now. One in great shape, and one with paint scrapes. I'm less worried about what it looks like, and I'm handy enough to give refinishing a shot.

thanks for the comments everyone. It sounds like people are saying there is not better center then the old cc3 for under 1000, including newer stuff from other vendors.

Eek! A revel c52 is on ebay starting ay 900. Any thoughts on the revel C52 vs the CC3? Again, please ignore the mains; I'm just taking about the center now. I'll build up the mains later. Not worried about front stage coherency, I'm focused on dialog clarity.

I don't know much about the Revel but dialogue through the CC-3 is excellent. In fact I'll watch TV w/just the center on. It's also quite good w/older Film Noir mono audio movies. Older Aerial speakers can keep up w/anything on the market. There are still a lot of 10T and LR5 owners. Michael Kelly believes in building it right the first time that's why you don't see a endless line of revisions every other year.

OK! You've convinced me. Now, is it worth the extra $113 for speaker with no paint scrapes? Anyone have experience refinishing an Aerial black speaker? I was thinking I would just light sand it (220 and a 440), then a couple of coats of black spray paint. This speaker will go into a family room that is used by my wife and I, and we aren't all that particular about how it all looks, but I don't want it to look bad.

I'd spend the extra simply for resale value. Should you wish to upgrade one day, the original finish speaker will probably have either a higher resale or will sell easier/quicker. On top of that, it's drop and go. No need to do any extra work.

I really couldn't tell you about the finish on the cc3. However, almost all speakers are a veneer. My concern would be the depth of the scratches and the thickness of the veneer. If the material just isn't there to work with, you may find yourself out of luck.

Watch the pics on Ebay, it looks like from the photos that one is a CC3 and one a CC3B by the looks of tweeter position. Resale should be higher on the CC3B.

Interesting. which is the "B" model, the one with the fully round tweeter, or the one where the tweeter is smoshed into the mid?

Presuming the latter. This is the one I have and it matches the dimensions of the B version per Class A above...

Turns out I won the CC3B, but the seller determined the tweeter didn't work! He was very honest and refunded my money before he even shipped it. So, now to decide if I want to buy the older CC3 with the paint issues and refinish it myself. I just don't know about buying an almost 20 year speaker. Still, $425 shipped, plus a few hours of my time to refinish, well, that's might be a deal too good to pass up.

Thanks for the positive response. That was my third take, I forgot to mention the equipment rack Behring the screen wall. I'm using a Marantz AV8801 for processing. I have a Rotel RMB-1095 for the cc, Aerial sides and DT rears. A B&K for the DT sides Nd a 4 channel Carver for the ML in ceilings

I am looking to pick up a pair of used Aerial Acoustics SR3 surrounds and had a question - Does the 7.1 inch front speaker play in both dipole and bipole modes? I want to mount them on the side walls - do you prefer dipole or bipole mode? Thanks.

Yes, it does. I prefer bi-pole. You may prefer either one depending on your room lay out.
