Looking for the best sub for around 1k. Size isn't "much" of an issue but I don't want a behemoth in my room. I was looking at the Sunfire Signature sub, but there are many mixed opinions of it. I am looking at the om-6 mirage speakers for mains and the oc-2 center and the om series surrounds (If this is of any consequence).

Thanks for the help.

Bag End 18" is quite an impressive sub. Many recording studios use these in a more expensive Elf set up with crossover. The Bag End 18" has proven to be a monster of a sub. Retail: $ 1,450.00 purchased for around $ 1,000.00

Sunfire True Subwoofer MK II can be had for about $1000. Awesome sub with 2700 watt amp built in AND a very small footprint. Read some reviews on www.audioreview.com and visit www.sunfire.com for some magazine reviews too.

I think the Paradigm PW2200 is a great buy at $800 (~$700 street). It made #6 on the NOUSAINE list above the HSU (average maximum output). SVS is not featured on this list, shrug.

And its very musical too!

You might also want to take a look into Definitive Technology's PL15+. It retails for $699, so you can work the price down from their. I have a pair and have been very pleased...

Another consideration might SV Subwoofers. I've read incredible reviews and have placed an order for 2 of their 1646 powered units. Only drawback is 2 month waiting list.

I have a pair of SV Subwoofers CS25-31s and I love them. I replaced an MTX PS-15 which is a great sub $500 powered sub but it can't touch the SVS units.

If you can find a BPS-150I i would buy it. they retailed for about $800.00 new(discoutinued by Mirage last year)the sub has dual 8" drivers in a bipolar design and would blend well with the other Mirage speakers. I am using a couple of Boston PV-1000 subs currently and love them, 1000 watts dual 10" in a cherry cabinet and less than 1 square foot of space. Retail $1200.00 each but deals are out there. Good luck!

I would vote for the Paradigm Servo 15. You can get it here locally for $1050. Slighly higher than $1000 but an great sub.

There are several from M&K that are very good and rated very high. mksound.com also read god things about HSU and SVS.

Wide Screen Review published a subwoofer issue called "The Essential Subwoofer Buyers Guide" that rated about 50 different subs and there are several on the list that are below $1k and a few that are just over. Check it out.

GO listen and have fun.

If size isn't a big concern, why would you go with the SIG?

You could get better performance(imo) by using a more conventionally size subwoofer in the same price range.

>>>I listened to the true sunfire sub yesterday and it sounded pretty good. Thats why i was considering the signature.<<<

Listening auditions are fine, but you should also consider the objective performance capabilities of the woof too, imo.

Subs like the HSU VTF-2,and Paradigm PW2200 should be able to match the performance of the SIG, for a fraction of the cost.

>>>...I also have a Definitive Technology 12TL sub (12") and the Sunfire True Sub Jr DESTROYS it in every way and is about 1/4 the size. So I do not agree that more conventional subs offer better performance even though your mind and eye may try to convince you otherwise.<<<

it has nothing to do with your eyes or your mind actually. A bigger enclosure won't mandate better performance...but a well designed *large* enclosure will always beat a well designed *small* enclosure at a given price point....it's a law ya know.(hoffman)

You set a price point..$1000ish,$2000ish,$3000ish,ect...ect....and I'll always whip a tiny cube with larger suggestions.

At $1000, twin HSU VTF-2 will leave a SIG for dead.

Tom (TV) won't toot his own horn, but I will. You are not going to find a better sub, dollar for dollar than SVsubwoofers. Do a search under hardware at www.hometheaterforum.com and you'll find two days worth of information about SVS. You could get two of the 25-31 series for what you want to spend.

Good Luck
