Has ANYONE heard the new Energy Veritas bookshelf speakers? I was attempting to listen to some Paradigm's this weekend when an enthusiastic salesman dragged me into a listening room all ecstatic about the new Veritas bookshelf speakers. There were two models retailing for $1000 and $1500 per pair. The first thing he showed me were the rubber tops of the speakers. Very odd, looked at felt cool though. Next he turned them on with some Metallica. They KICKED! They had such great bass and midrange I was in disbelief. Metallica's drummer on track one of And Justice For All never sounded so realistic! I've listened to many many speakers in this price range over the last 2 months, and the only other ones I've liked as much were the $2500/pair Vienna Accoustics.

So, I figured they must bite for highs. I tossed in my Sarah McLachlan (sp?) cd and let it fly. Very nice... smooth and believeable highs. I continued to test some Anthrax and Days of the New. Everything sounded very nice to me.

So, next I assumed the movie experience was going to bite it. (You can tell I am a cynical shopper now after looking for the right seaker for months ). So we started it up with The Haunting. I was using the Paradigm Servo 15 sub. I was most interested in the scene where the window blows out. With Def Techs, you really are enveloped in the sound of glass flying all around you. It was not quite so broad as the Def Techs here (not bipolar), but very nice! We continued on to Saving Private Ryan. That midrange was JUST what that movie needed. The gunshots came to life, whizzing and popping and exploding! And if you think that's great, you should have seen my wife jump out of her seat when a gun went off in Dances With Wolves. It really surprised her!

Everything these speakers did sounded good and I am leaning very hard toward the purchase now. I have been looking for speakers for months and have eliminated:

Def Tech
Boston Accoustics
Vienna Accoustic (just because of price)
and many others.

I have about 5000 to spend and about $4000 of that will be the speakers. It's looking like I might get these Energy Veritas bookshelves or possibly the paradigm reference series (80s,40s and the servo 15).

Has anyone else auditioned the new speakers from Energy? I'd love to hear what others think about them.
