Someone showed me a link to a site with a new product that claims to give full surround sound with one speaker. The surround technology looks interesting but i cannot fully grasp it. I seek opinions on the design and whether it would be worth a go. http://www.diasmusic.com/about.html

I suppose that would depend on the question, "worth a go" for WHAT

The only way to know is to hear it. Their claims seem far-fetched, so they should definitely have to provide a free demo to convince potential customers.

This has been attempted many times in the past. IIRC, Polk had a series of speakers (MARS?) which used out of phase info transferred between channels but with separate boxes. B&O did something similar with a single box. Others, too. Never achieved much market penetration because it is a solution to a non-existent problem.

Yamaha YSP series and several others are available.

Actually Kal, I see a great use for these for many regular folks - one simple device that puts out "surround" sound and does not require a ton of technical know-how, space or setup but is still better than the TV's speakers. I may demo the Yammy for my parents as they want something very simple for movies (they have a music-only 2ch setup).

I have sound equipment.

Sure but they use a different technology.

Nope. These appear to be only stereo speaker simulation from a single box and accept only stereo input. They do not pretend to create surround sound but to expand/enhance stereo. Thus, they are NOT single-box solutions for a surround system and, frankly, do not seem to have any real usefulness.

Ah, I didn't really look at this device closely and made the 'ole assumption it would be like the YSP going off the OP's post.

I have sound equipment.
