If you're in East Texas, you can already hear them at Dave's Raven Audio showroom! What you cryin' about?

mtrot, I just drove out to the L.A. area back in Jun...took me three days from Virginia driving by myself...Are you serious about going? I have a daughter that lives out there and I might could be talked into driving out there again to see the grand kids...Where in Texas are you at?

Lol, I guess I'd put it as half way serious. Maybe I could combine some other attractions into the trip to help justify the distance. I'm in Tyler. Wow, that is some serious driving! I was thinking I would drive it in three days from here.

I was at the factory back in Dec and got to watch them build some speakers...Very neat...I was like a kid in a candy store.... You will be very happy with the Calibre, I think that they have about the same sound stage as the Signatures while taking up less space....A very impressive speaker for the size and money.

Yup! I'm gonna start building the bi-amp speaker cables this weekend since I'm off on Monday.

Well, so much for T.H.E. Show in Anaheim, as it's been cancelled. I hope this is not a harbinger of things to come with respect to other Audio shows.

Been enjoying my Calibres immensely these last few days. Full review coming soon once I dial them in to my office.

Did I mention I hate room effects? They ruin everything! lol Before tuning....look at those nasty dips from cancellations, peaks from room resonances....ugh....

After in-room tuning:

Nice and respectably flat from 30Hz-20kHz. This is just a temporary setup as these will go in my office at work, but considering that they are currently in a room with parallel, reflective walls, they still sound superb. I spent every waking minute from Wednesday evening all the way to last night listening to music. I feel like an inactive slob right now! lol

Detailed review/comparison with my Legacy Studio HD's coming very soon!

How do you compare them to towers? Do you think they could be mounted on stands a few inches off a wall?

Legacy Audio Silhouette Pro L/C/R
DefTech ProCinema 1000 SL/SR
DefTech Supercube III
Denon AVR790
Oppo PM-3
GIK bass traps and absorption

Well both of the Legacy "towers" that I have heard, the Focus SE and Aeris, will without a doubt get louder and with less distortion due to having so much more driver radiating area. But as you can see from the adjusted frequency response, the Calibres can cover about 99% of all music out there, and boy do they sound good doing it. Oh, and they can get LOUD. My current amplifier pushes 400W RMS per channel, and they are not scared of it in the least. If you look at my previous pictures that I posted, they were indeed mounted on stands when I went to go audition them. You want to avoid close placement to the side-walls if you believe in directivity control to help preserve stereo cue's/imaging. With so many bass radiators on the sides and top, placing them close to the rear wall, will likely boost the low-end so that has to be taken into account. All in all, placement is always a compromise, unless you have DSP like a Wavelet processor. Room treatment is always an option as well to help with echo's/reflections.

I had the opportunity to hear the Aeris with Raven amps and I was absolutely stunned. It is funny to read the reactions of others here and see a similar theme. I thought it was just me thinking this. It is no overstatement to say theses truly provide a live performance like experience which leaves you searching for the performers who are apparently invisibly present. The wisps of the highs have never been sweeter to my ears. Airy is precisely the right word to describe them. I cannot get this experience out of my head... I had not really considered spending that kind of cash prior to hearing them. I feel like it is only a matter of time, now, until I own a pair.

I said the same thing to myself as a teenager in the early-mid-1990's, reading through the Legacy Audio paper catalogue they sent me in the mail (that I requested just for the heck of it). There was something interesting about their design approach that intrigued me from the very beginning. I really liked how they employed massive piston area to reduce distortion (for a given SPL level) from the very get-go. Fast-forward 20+ years later, and the wait was worth it for my two pairs of Legacy speakers.
