I think you'll both be very happy with the Sierra 1's. I'd add a subwoofer for the low end though. A 12" Rythmik would fit the bill nicely and Ascend also carries them.

For use alone, I would do the 340's and add a third for a center channel. Best sound per dollar in Ascend's lineup, and easier to get loud with that Yamaha. For movies, definitely add a sub.

The Sierra-1 will also do the trick and look better, but cost you more.

Don't know much about the Tektons.

Overall, the Sierra-1 is a better speaker, not quite as forward sounding as the 340SE, has digs deeper, solid imaging, takes more power to hit the same volume level, and has better WAF.

Thanks. That's even smaller than the HTM-200 (11" x 6.5" x 6.375").

If I didn't just purchase 4 HTM-200 for ceiling Atmos duty, I'd be very tempted by the Luna. I'm not sure how much of a benefit they would be in an Atmos setup though if used solely for height channels. I have a Sierra-2 for the 5.0 duty right now.

Sierra Horizon w/RAAL with Monitor GX100s?

In my home theater I have Monitor Audio GX100 on stands, and an aerial CC3 center. I have an opportunity to get a Horizon with RAAL for a good price. I've only read good stuff about the Horizon. I would like to upgrade the dialog audio, and although the CC3 is considered a fantastic center, the Horizon also gets great reviews.

I know most HT snobs :-) will say it's important to match mains and center. Given that the Seirra and the MA Golds both use ribbon tweeters, do people thing they might be a fairly good match? I would have to spend more to get the monitor audio C150 (which is smaller) and way more to get the C350 (which is similar looking to the Horizon).

Or do folks think I should get the Monitor Audio center or the horizon and get Sierra speakers? I really like the MA Gold 100's and I have never had the chance to hear the Sierras, so I'm a little gun shy in switching horses.

Yamaha RX-A2050 | LG OLED65B6P | MA Gold GX100 mains| Aerial CC3 center
Orb ModX surrounds and Atmos overheads | SVS SB13Ultra sub

That's like saying all softdome tweeters are a fairly good match with each other, and that is simply not the case.

I haven't heard the MA Golds, but I have heard other speakers with non-RAAL ribbons, and they do not sound like RAALs.

If you have the opportunity to get the Sierra for what you think is a good price- buy it!

Worst case is you find you don't like it and you'll have to sell it off. Because you already got it for a good price, you will likely not lose a whole lot of money on the deal. In fact, you might even come out close to even.

OTOH, should you find you really like it, it is possible you might be able to live with it + MA's and not be too distracted by the timbre mismatch. It's nice to have the luxury of time to play around with the gear, and eventually come to definitive conclusion that isn't colored by "I have to choose NOW!"

I don't no about anyone else, but not being under the gun, that latitude helps open up my ears and hear things with a little more clarity.
