I have a set of NHT VT2.4's. I am thinking of upgrading to some NHT VT3's, as I hear they are better speakers. I will have a DD18 soon, I am think of getting dual DD18's for a terrific price. My room is kind of large 22 x 20 x 8. I want to feel the sound.

Which would you go for ? Which change will make the biggest difference to my system ?

You have not compared the VT2.4's to the VT3's...correct? So you are just going on what you have been told?

With subs, two is not always better than one. With your size room, I do not think and single DD18 will have any problems especially if properly located and calibrated. If you get a second, you will have to take the time to properly locate and calibrate the system as a hole, and even then there is no guarantee that it will be appreciably better than having a single unit.

No I haven't heard the VT3's and seeing that they are not sold anymore, I can't just go demo them. I have an idea from owning NHT's over the years what they will probably sound like, but how much improvement they will offer.....I don't know.

I do like the idea of dual subs as you can get a more even response throughout the room when properly calibrated. Since DD18's both come with software.....they should be a lot easier to calibrate properly.

I recently added another sub to my system and it really balanced out the bass response throughout the room. Highly recommended.

Getting VT-3s is also adding dual subs.

Yeah you got me on that one. But with them attached to the speaker, I can't move them around the room, for better response.

This review (www.avrev.com/equip/nht2/index.html) notes that the sound of the 2.4s smoothed out in the reviewer's room with the addition of two subs (allowing him to decrease the demand on the 2.4s' woofers). Given that, I'd vote for adding two subs. But you may get even better results for your money by adding some good amps or other components. Can't say without knowing what you already have and what you plan to use the speakers for.

Right now I have a Pioneer Elite VSX82 receiver. I plan to get the Emotiva LPA-1 power amp soon. I don't really crank my system up too much. I am pretty much 90% HT and like that big soundstage that the VT2.4's provide. One of the reasons for considering the VT3's was that with the additional drivers the VT3 has, perhaps it has a larger full soundstage with maybe an even better tonal balance.

My vote is for dual subs, with room treatments at the early reflection points, EQ for the subs, and bass traps.

Mix, I have a pair of VT-2.4's, these speakers love power. I power them with a 200 watt B&K amp. So the amp upgrade should and the additional sub should give you what you're looking for. By the way what center and surrounds are you using?

I am using a VS2.4 as a center and Energy dipole surrounds. I plan to get some Axiom QS8's for surrounds. I am not a big fan of NHT surrounds especially since they are not bi/dipoles.
