so i just got my brand new speaker set from ascend acoustics and was wondering how to hook it up with respect to my reciever, an onkyo tx-sr674.

each of the ascend speakers has 2 places for the speaker wire to go, one is red and one is black.

do these colors represent a (+) or (-)?

on my receiver i have (+) and (-) clearly labeled and want to make sure i feed the right split of the speaker wire into the right hole. which is which?

It should label + or - in addition to the colors but if you have an onkyo... if the 674 is like the 604 then black is alway (-). Other colors like red, brown, purple are (+).

right... the + and - is clearly labeled on the onkyo, but not on the speakers.

is black always (-) on the back of speakers?

black is always - (unless perhaps all connectors are black)

"Vintage" is good for wine, not for A/V equipment.

It doesn't matter just be consistent with your connections. If you connect the + to the red terminal and - to the black terminal on one speaker, do the same for all speakers.
