Because this is the official JBL thread this shouldn't be considered obnoxious(except to Smarty-pants ) AND because I try my best to hold my gushing comments over the M2's for fear of being labeled a rabid fanboy, I am posting a review of them by a good source that says it for me . Besides, it's actually hard to find comments on the M2's from professional sites.

http://www.realhd-audio.com/?p=2861

Selected quotes for those that don't do links:

"This is the 'absolute sound'."

"These speakers would best anything that I’ve ever heard regardless of price."

I couldn't agree more with his assessment...

The Crown amps arrived yesterday and as soon as the M2's arrive and I can set them up I'll have some comments of my own. Hopefully my room doesn't do anything terrible to them .
SyntheticShrimp and GeekWave like this.

I think I posted this before, but there's a pretty extensive thread on the M2 at the Lansing Forum:

http://www.audioheritage.org/vbullet...538-New-JBL-M2

They seem to have impressed a lot of knowledgeable people.

Oh, sure, no doubt. Just post your address so I don't have to bother you to send them. And I hate to be out-of-line here, but would you mind covering shipping costs?

Not sure why anyone would think so, including myself.
When did I ever say the speakers didn't perform well?... or that they shouldn't be talked about?... or that I didn't care for them?
I just think $12k is a lot of money for a pair of speakers, regardless of performance. That's it and that's all.
Go ahead and gush all you want... there should never be any shame in doing so about a product that performs at the highest level.
I hope they make you very happy.

Your impression is correct, but the specifics could use some refinement.

The 12' woofer has a replaceable foam surround. It's only in the L7

The 8", 6", and 4" drivers have the proprietary, non-replaceable surround. The L1 and L3 have one of these drivers, the L5 has three of them, and the L7 has two. When the surrounds go, it's time to hunt for a good, used driver. There's no NOS at JBL, and taping, gluing, or caulking the broken surround is not only ugly, but it changes key transducer parameters.

The 1" Ti tweeter, has no surround, of course, and no replacement diaphragms are available, unless someone has a NOS one sitting on a shelf. I believe there are some non-JBL replacements, but I don't know about quality.

JBL does recommend a replacement tweeter of its own, but you'd need to buy a pair, since you'd have to match tweeters in a pair of L1, L3, L5, or L7 speakers. You can buy non-JBL copies of the 035TiA tweeter here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JBL-035TIA-C...-/160620560956

Yeah, Mark can seem like a bit of a 'grump' at times (cant blame him with what he's trying to communicate to whom), but he sure is an excellent source of creditability, and I too hold his opinion in very high regard. I've been looking forward to hearing what he has to say about the Crown amps and their influence in the signal path...

I was just busting chops with my mention of you . I don't carry grudges.

As to gushing, I have learned to try and not be matter of fact about much of anything, even if I really believe it at the time. I've been around long enough to know viewpoints and opinions change, and what was once a fact can turn into a maybe. So I temper the best I can...but it's a constant battle .

Often times they tell you to replace substitute drivers in pairs.
Just to follow up: I received the pair of S38 tweeters I got off eBay, part number: 335663-001. They are a perfect fit for the PT800 EOS.

To say I am impressed would be a serious understatement.
own L5, along with L7. L5s are a fantastic value for what they sell for, I still play them weekly in a bedroom setup where they are size ideal--congrats on picking up NIB units, rare find, sure you'll continue loving them as I do.

serious congrats, there are countless reports on the net, and they universally agree on the M2 being a game changer beyond compare for the price, and this comes from JBL insiders as well as those who have spent much time and $ on JBL's flagships over 4 decades....... you are a very lucky man for sure--if we're voting for a thread, I would seriously appreciate you posting here in the JBL thread for all to enjoy, pics, impressions, wave-forms, you name it, I'm game!

I had heard the L7's actually had far too much bass when compared to the L5's. Much more imposing too. Having said that, the person who sold me the L5's said to keep them 2 ft from the wall, yet the manual (in the perfect box with the perfect manual!!) stated 3 ft from the wall. Considering I am about 12" away, I'm likely coming up short!

You know what, I am going to do up a fantastic video demo for you guys on this JBL thread, showing some of my vintage gear. I think some of you could easily use it to track your stuff and what you own/fix or notes on what you paid, what you want etc. Here is the one on the Boat I mentioned. And, yes it's totally free BTW!! BTW do you know the black receiver unit??

The L7 has cause more than a few people to lose hair due to some peculiar setup requirements. But once set up right they are in no way "boomy".

Arrow ajl1 and gooddoc

There's an M2 thread on AVS in Latest Industry News:

JBL 'M2' Master Reference Monitor

It doesn't get a ton of action, but there's almost 100 posts, and at least some of them are worth reading.

What is a good height stand to get for the JBL 530's in front L/R position? Will be sitting in average height couch.

I have Sanus 31" stands right now, but not sure if they are too tall? It seems ear level is aligned with the middle of the bottom woofer. Not sure if it should be aligned with the top tweeter?

I have my 530's on 24" stands. I used them for a few days on 30" stands I already had while I waited for my 24" ones, and the 30's were way too tall. You want the tweeter center roughly inline with your ears.

There doesn't seem like there is much reported on what appears to be the best Atmos audio presentation at Cedia 2014, but I did find this:

http://www.soundandvision.com/conten...es-atmos-right

I have seen other comments that it was fantastic, but this is the first write-up I've come across.

From my perspective it's good to know the M2's are not just for music but can crank the cinema just as well.
