I am settled in and very happy with my gear. I wish I had more to add, but I know so little and thanks to help have no questions. As long as what I have keeps working, I might be good for a very long time. Now, if I fall into a ton of money things might change, but that is not likely.

PS.
My new XMC-1 with Dirac has made my JBL's sound amazing. I am incredibly happy with my setup right now.

In over my head.

Well I can tell you that listening to my L300's is pure pleasure. It's hard to believe that this is a speaker that was made in the late 70's and can still compete todays offerings. So yes, we are busy listening to our JBL's, at least I am

Suffering with the JBL M2's for a while now. I'm hoping the 7 series can be a bright spot. But, nonetheless, I'm going to soldier on and continue to endure the long nightly listening sessions for the good of the JBL audio community. That's just how I am, a martyr.

Sorry to be the drag bummer on the happy orgy.

Wrager and 4DHD like this.

We all should have to suffer that much. lol

On the other hand, I do enjoy listening to my MJC212s

Yep. And compared to the original L212, upgraded in every possible way.
Mirror imaged, time aligned boxes. Ti HF, Pro Mid, Biased XOs, over stuffed enclosures. And all wrapped up in elephant skin vinyl.

Yes they are...and I've turned down a number of offers to sell them.

I don't know if the soundstage is as good as the M2, as I've never heard them, but better than 90% of speakers I have auditioned.
Eliminating the 16" width of the box as an IB for the HF,MF changed everything.

Yeah, I don't know either . It doesn't matter one bit though so long as your satisfied with what you have. I kept swapping out until I found a speaker that I have no issues with - that satisfied me completely. Then I stopped. To be honest I had my doubts for a long time that a speaker even existed that would meet my design specifications AND that I would be completely satisfied with the SQ.

My point being that I really don't care if there is another speaker "better" than the M2. And you shouldn't care if there is a "better" speaker than your 212's so long as when you sit down you're satisfied with what you hear. When that changes, well, then it's time to go shopping .

I've never had much upgraditis. I bought my first set of L212s in '79.
Then around '98 I was wanting to go MC. Did not like much of what I saw...and many times cause of less than ideal center speakers.

Then when I realized what ebay was and I could buy the 212 drivers, I decided to expand my 2.1 system into 5.2 system, building my own LCRs and then 7.2.

Then in '06 I got my hands on 5 PT800s.
And for anyone who sees my LCRs that does not know JBL would think my LCRs ( pair of 212, mod PT800) would not possible be a sonic match.
But in fact, the PT800 is just a modern update of the L212.
More/less same size boxes, 1", 4or5", 8" drivers and XO points that are very close.
But for stereo soundstage, the MJC212 outshines the PT800 big time.

And I am very happy with this setup...far as I am concerned, to get better than the MJC212, I'd have to shell out $22K for Salon 2s.

Wishing I could post in the Ultra Hi-End HT Gear ($20,000+)

Yeah, it's all about priorities. As excellent as the Salons may be from an SQ standpoint, any speaker in my room has to be capable of output and dynamics that exceed their capability. I don't like finding speaker or amplifier limits.

I would love to hear a Salon vs. M2 comparo. That would be interesting.

In '09 my son and I auditioned the Salon2 in SF.
Then in '10 we auditioned the Everest II in Japan.
We would have liked to been able to audition both the same day, same room. And the room in SF was superior to the one in Japan. That room was a travesty.
To add to those, we would have liked to have auditioned the Array 1400.

Any Jbl pro cinema owners in this thread? I did a search but no one answered the question from the previous guy who asked about JBL 4722 speakers. Anyone heard them? I'm also interested if anyone has heard the bigger 3 way JBL pro cinema speakers.

I am thinking of upgrading a whole new HT 7.1 with JBL. Will setup below work? Thanks.

3 x L820 L/C/R
4 x 8320 Surround
1 x L8400P or 260P or SVS Subwoofer

I don't see why not. I'd think about going with a LC2 for the center if at all possible though.

^ If you are buying all new speakers, what's the point of mismatching them on purpose?
Why not just do L820s all the way around?
I would second the notion that a LC2 might be better for your center channel, but the L820 would probably still do a decent job of it.
Keep in mind they are sold in pairs, so if you did want to use just 3 of them, you'd have to buy 4, then have 1 left over, or sell it.

I am also waiting the 708i to arrive. Present system is two channel stereo, LSR6332 as mains, or 4425s as mains. Recently acquired a Crown 5000hd as the system power amp. The system also consists of an old Sony ES CD and Benchmark DAC1 HDR. I use the AES input on the Crown for the CD and DVD input. This combo seams to be the most transparent.

Good are you also using the AES input on your Crowns?

I was trying to wait for the 7 series, but went ahead & purchased some 508's & 560 sub in cherry. Couldn't pass it up.

If the local dealer gets some 7 series in to demo I'll definitely be interested in a listening session.
