You plug the Y cable into the two line in ports on the back of the sub.

What receiver do you have? Does it have automatic room calibration software? If so have you run it and what were the results?

I just bought a Jamo D500 THX setup for an incredible price. I cant wait to hear it. It comes with the 660 sub! The reviews pn this system are astoundingly good. So I jumped in!
Anyway..here is my question........I want to mount the LEFT and RIGHT speakers with a slight toe-in towards the center listening position. Would this be a good idea? As opposed to hanging them flush on the wall.
Are there any 'mounting keels' available? Or some sought of other solution?
Thanks.

I'm interested in your thoughts of the D500's. I am about to buy three to use as my LCR behind an AT screen.

Hi guys, about to purchase my first ever Home Theatre System and I was hoping someone could please answer a couple questions for me.

The HT specialist at my local electronics store has recommended I go with the Jamo S 606 HCS 3 speaker system paired with the Denon 3100w A/V Receiver. I have looked into both products and it seems that this seems like a good choice, especially the Jamo speakers!

Now for the questions. I will just list them to make things easier.

1. As the Jamo S 606 towers already have subwoofers, is it necessary to buy a separate subwoofer, or are the built-in ones sufficient? I have it in my budget to add the separate subwoofer, but would like to cut costs wherever possible.

2. During my research, I came across many sites that indicated that the Jamo S 606 HCS 3 system was "discontinued by the manufacturer". Is this true? From what I have read about the Jamo speakers, they seem like the way to go, but after reading that they may have been discontinued, should I be worried about purchasing the S 606 HCS 3 system?

3. Finally, as I cannot seem to find an online price for the Jamo S 606 HCS 3 system to compare to (possibly due to them being discontinued), what price would this specific system go for at this point in time. Only reason I ask is because if I do end up buying this system from the local electronics store (located in Canada), I want to be getting a fair price.

I apologize if these questions have already been asked/answered somewhere in this massive thread, but I would really appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks!

If this is mainly for home theater, you will want a separate subwoofer. The s606's are rate down to 42 hz at +/-3db, so their real useful range is likely around 50-60hz. You'l want a sub that is rated at least down to the 20ish hz range to get a really good home theater experience.

I believe the s606 system has been discontinued for quite some time, and is likely quite difficult to find. You may have better luck finding the newer S626 system that is on the Jamo website.

What is your budget for the full system? Although the S606 system was a great deal when it was being cleared out, perhaps we can help you find some even better speakers from another mfr in your budget.

Thank you for your response kgallerie. The HT guy at the store quoted me approx $1000 Canadian (CAD) for the Jamo S 606 HCS 3 + Denon 3100w A/V Receiver. So for the jamo system, I believe he had it listed at $500 CAD, with the option of adding a 12" Sub for $185 extra. Is this a reasonable price to pay for discontinued speakers?

In terms of my budget, I am trying to stay close to the $1000 mark for the speaker system + A/V receiver combined. I really liked the Jamo's but if there is a newer system that will keep me within my budget, I would rather go for the newer system than the discontinued one.

But with that being said, I seem to be getting a brilliant deal pricewise on the Denon 3100w from what I can gather after my research. My concern is mostly about the pricing of the speakers and whether or not there are better/newer models out now that I can squeeze into my already tight budget. All in all, the Jamo S606 HCS 3 sounded great either way (discontinued or not!). Thanks again!

It looks like the denon x3100w is selling for $1000 (USD) alone, so thats seems like a great deal. I know when the S606 was on clearance (i forget the price), that value couldnt be beat. I dont have any of the S606 system so i cant comment on the sound or quality of them from personal experience.

Personally, I wouldnt be hesitant to go with the discontinued models as long as you can test them out to make sure they work and there arent any blemishes on them.

Do you know what sub they are offering for $185?

Kgallerie, the Jamo S606 HCS 3 system sounds good and is still covered under the manufacturers warranty, even though it has been discontinued.

Here is the full package that is being offered to me:

1. Panasonic PT-AE8000 projector
2. 120" Grandview 16:9 Fixed Frame Projector Screen
3. Denon AVRX 3100w A/V Receiver
4. Jamo S606 HCS 3 Speaker system
5. Energy Power 12 Subwoofer (12")
6. Ceiling Mount for Projector
7. Extra Bulb for Panasonic projector

The quote for this package is $4900 CAD, which I think is a great deal for what is being offered based on my research. But I wanted to ask someone with more experience before I pulled the trigger on this. Thanks.

I honestly know nothing about the projectors, screens, etc.

I just looked back and the S606 HCS3 5 speaker set was selling for $350 at one point and there was not better deal out there at the time. There were several sales around that time (early to mid 2012 if you want to look back in this thread) for around $400-450 and they were considered a good deal. So if you can figure out how much they are charging you for just the speakers in that package, this should give you a good idea.

You will definitely want to pass on the Energy Power12 sub. There is nothing powerful about it. Energy used to make some quality subs (S10.3, ESW-V10, etc) but those are few and far between. Their recent power series is just plain junk. For $185 you can do much better. The BIC F12 or the BIC V-1220 from amazon or partsexpress are both solid performers in that range.

Or if you can get up to the $300ish mark, you can do even better. Check out this thread.....List of budget subwoofers ($300 and less) The NXG NX-BAS-500 has been getting rave reviews lately for its price, although its getting difficult to find.

If you can extend the budget even more for the sub (and might be recommended for a system like yours), the best bang for the buck seems to be the SVS PB-1000 for $500. This sub highly recommended as the minimum for any serious home theater.

Again, I personally havent heard any of these subwoofers or speakers......i'm just relaying the info that i've heard on this forum.

Hi!

I have an "old" Jamo Concert Center (D8cen).
It seem that the tweeter doesn't work any more.
Can anybody tell me the what type of tweeter is it in this center? Or any replacement tweeter suggestion if original replacement tweeter is not available anymore?
I didn't found any info on the net...

Thanks,
Viktor

I am loving my jamo D500 7.1 system ( 3 D500 LCR plus 4 D500 surrounds )I am getting a d500 Surround pair for front heights.
I read in forums that dipole speakers are not good for front height.

Some HT enthusiasts have tried dipole surrounds for front height placement.
They have placed them on their front end sidewalls like surround speakers.
My question is for positioning them as front heights
What would be the ideal placement angle and position ( front wall
or side wall in the front) for my new d500 Sur .

I will be using NEO X
in my NR818.

Will placing them on sidewalls direct the sound waves to listening
position (10 ft from screen)

Or is it totally unacceptable for DIPOLE speakers to be used as FRONT HEIGHTS

Thank you again
Hope to get a helpful suggestion

Those are not subwoofers in the S606 towers. There are just 8" woofers, not subwoofers. They do not reach the lower frequencies like a sub. So yes, you would be better off adding a sub.
