Hello everybody!

I am at it again. I am looking at buying some Martin Logan Source's. However, I have some concerns with powering them. ML has a power rating of 20-400 Watts at 5 ohms. Thats allot of watts!

I have everything running of my Marantz SR5008 Reciver providing the power for two Motion 12's and a motion 8. Can it handle adding these things? Marantz have it rated at 140 Watts at 6 ohms.

These sources seem to be a really good deal. "I just wish he had the boxes." : /

It depends on how big your room is. My room is 13ft W x 20ft L x 8ft H and I ran my ML ElectroMotion ESL (6ohm), ML Source (5ohm), and Encore TF (4ohm) off an ancient Marantz SR7200 (110 watts @ 8ohm) for 2 years just fine before I bought a separate 5 channel amp. If you have a large room the receiver might struggle a little bit or get warm. You should be fine generally speaking unless you really like to crank it.

The room it will be in is fairly small. Its Total Vol is 1,400 Sq.ft. I am just wondering if my receiver will be enough to enjoy them. With out risking the receiver in anyway.

I would prefer some Purity's because they are powered. But I doubt I am going to be able to find any for anything close to the price I could get these. I am hoping to pick up the sources for $500. They don't have boxes or anything but they look like they are in pristine shape.

Is that a good deal?

Thanks

Sounds like a good deal to me provided they're in good shape. I bet you would have a hard time finding a good set used for less.

I think you'll be fine. My room is about the same size and I run my montis off of a denon avr-x4000. Never runs out of pore and is not too warm at all.

Hey everyone. I'm new to the Martin Logan speakers. I am looking to upgrade my system. I'm thinking of going with the ESL's and the Motif X. Is that too much center speaker for those fronts? I won't get a chance to listen to the pair before I buy. Wondering if anyone has that setup or if I should go with the Electromotion C2 center? Any advice would be great!! Thanks!!

What do mean by too much? It won't be too loud and overpower them if that's what you mean.

If the extra cost isn't an issue for you, absolutely go with the Motif. It's a fantastic center channel.
That being said, the Electromotion C2 is great as well and you'd probably be happy with either one. But the Motif is just that much better.

I have the EM ESL's and a Motif (not the X version though) and it blends right in with the EM ESL's just fine. I've not heard a C2 to compare though.

Considering 80-85% of movie sound is coming from the center, I'd say go with an electrostat center. Otherwise it would seem like a waste of an electrostat setup if you're only using them 15-20% of the time.

Depends if this is mostly movies or music setup. As SubSolar said, in terms of HT, the center provides the majority of the movie. 80-85% is a very fair number to consider. Without question if the primary use here is for HT the investment should be made.

Hi all,

I am also an owner ML speakers -- currently using Motion 40 and Encore TF Center Channel for my home theater. My first purchase of ML speaker is Aerius model back in 1995.

Any comment about Ethos? Especially if I pair it with my Carver Power Amp -- Carver Power Amp -- a500x THX or a760x THX (I collected Carver Power Amps). Thanks

Cheers

I believe Amazon carry Motion 40's at a bit lower price -- $949 and free shipping.

Amazon's price is for one speaker, and is the MSRP. I believe the Best Buy open box would have been for a pair.

I heard that ML is releasing the Motion 60 this summer. Will have two 8 inch drivers, one 6 inch mid and and extended tweeter. Looking forward to moving the 40's to the rears for the 7.2 upgrade!

I'm in the market for a pair of Motion 15 bookshelfs, Motion 30 center, Motion 4 surrounds. Most retailers are selling at list. I'd like to find a deal. Can anyone recommend somewhere online to purchase these units at a good price?

There are no Martin Logan speakers on this website, only Klipsch. Even when I keyword search, "Martin Logan" no results come up. AV Science Sales 5, I am surprised to hear that that you are not aware of this. Can you refer me to a link where I may view your selection of ML speakers?

Your company is not listed on the Martin Logan Authorized Internet Retailer webpage either. Can you please explain?

ML rarely goes on sale unless a model is being discontinued or you find factory reconditioned. There's also www.audioadvisor.com which gets factory reconditioned ML in from time to time.

We are authorized AVAD dealers. AVAD is a major distributor for Martin Logan, Polk, JVC, Panamax - the list is endless. That means we are authorized to sell Martin Logan speakers. In fact, I pushed the boss to get us approved and I replaced all my home theater speakers with an 11 channel Motion Series setup myself. Hope that explains things. And no - we don't list individual speakers on our website - call and / or email with what you are looking for.

Now back to enjoying my Martin Logan Motion speakers - maybe I'll watch another episode of 24 tonight !

Some more details: http://www.audiogurus.com/learn/news/martinlogan-neolith-speakers/1025

It will have a huge 22 x 48-inch panel, and 15-inch and 12-inch woofers. Rumors are that it will be upwards of 50K USD.

Yes, they are. I bought a pair of Theos and Stage-X from Craig and AVS last year. It was one of the best HT decisions ever. Personally, I won't buy ML products anywhere else, ever. It was that easy and that fast. Plus I'm a cheapskate, and that rocked too. Sorry, don't mean to shill, we now return you to your regular programming.

But leaving AVS out of it, those ML speakers have spoiled me low, down, dirty, rotten. The things I hear now in familiar tracks and movies, and the spatial experience of that sound, are unbelievable. The before and after is just crazy. For example, my wife won't let me fast forward through the Game of Thrones theme-song introduction with the ML's now. She wants to hear the whole sequence, every time.

Works for me. biggrin.gif

My wife enjoyed " The Pacific " theme music ( both the opening and closing credits ) so much, now that we have the ML Motion series speakers ( and 2 SVS subwoofers ), we never skipped it during the entire series ( which we just finished watching ).
