They fit over my panel quite well, and I rarely take them off.

Interesting idea! Wonder if it attenuates the highs a bit? Probably not enough to matter... That also lets you pull them off and wash them now and then. And I suppose they come in assorted colors to match every decor...

Yeah, same here... Might have lost a full inch, though, in my case.

Either way, those are some big speakers! Monolith size (anybody remember those?)

Yep. Big speakers seem to be making somewhat of a come back, at least here on AVS. Though I do hang out a lot in the DIY threads. My speakers are big. An 18, two 12's and a horn loaded AMT tweeter in each main. Center will be the same, as soon as I find time to rebuild four boxes. I run them down to 40hz. I use a similar tweeter to what is in the ML motion series.

I recently picked up a pair of LX16's and a mInt through Wyred4Sound. Added a Dynamo 300 sub. Wow. Admittedly, they are the best quality gear I've owned thus far, and I'm totally blown away by the sound quality. I'm hearing details in music that I've only barely heard before.

I'm enthused to find someplace to demo the Motion 40's, a 30 and set up a 3.1 system for light TV, but mostly music.

The Motion 40s and 30 work great together ... I couldn't be happier with mine. Like most everyone, I get "upgrade-itis" with my audio gear, but it's never in regards to my ML Motion speakers ... they're keepers :-)

I scraped up every penny for like 3 years to own a pair of ESl. No way would I ever be able to afford this. It's almost half of what my house is worth

It will be interesting to see how Goldenears do against the Motion XTs.

They have incredible staging in 2 channel and a very wide stage for movies. Everything I have read agrees with my assessment. Not sure where you are getting the assumption that they are junkers....
For what it is worth, I spent a couple of months visiting home theatre stores in Sydney listening to their various speaker brands (B&W CM's, Focal 9xx, Polk rti7, Paradigms Studio's etc...). Our family room where our HT is installed is (20ft x 21ft x 9.5ft). I was looking for a set of speakers (left, centre, right) that would be a marked improvement over my current setup (B&W 683's). After travelling around to the various dealers I eventually heard some Legacy speakers that used a ribbon tweeter and really liked the clear opened sound, but they were well above my budget. That's when I saw an add for the new Martin Logan Motion 60XT and 50XT's that used a similar tweeter.

I visited the Sydney Martin Logan dealer a few times to have a listen (they also sold Paradigm studios, but I thought the mid-range was a bit closed in). Besides having that clear open top end and mid, they had great base that would easily fill our family room. So after a couple of months of searching I finally found some speakers that would be a marked improvement over what I already had. I've now purchased the 60XT & 50XT, but my wife is insisting that they are a combined Christmas / 50th birthday present, so I can't set them up until Christmas day

All I can receommend is to go and have a listen to the new Motion XT speakers and make up your own mind.

Regards,
Stephen

Hi Kamenoff,
Unfortunately I didn't come across any dealers in Sydney that stocked Golden ear. I've read however that they are very good.

Hello all! I just got some LX16's for my computer audio (driven by a NAD D3020). I love 'em! They replaced a pair of DefTech SM350s (now in the bedroom), which I also love, but I had ESS PS-8 in the 70's and 80's, and just love the Hiel AMT sound.

That all said, I have some hints from the wife that an upgrade to the home theater system might not be dealt with scorn, so there is hope! Upgraditis is a horrible disease, but we all must endure.

OK, so my main concern is that the wife and I want better dialog sound, which generally means a better center. I've boosted the lower mids with the eq in the Yamaha, and I use Dialog Lift to use the heights and Dialog Adjust to boost the dialog a bit, but it's still not as good as we want. My first idea is to get a better DefTech center like the 8040HD, but then I got to thinking "folded motion" for detail has to be good, right?

So now I'm thinking Motion 50XT for the center and eventually replace the BP8Bs with Motion 20s or heck, LX16's on stands. The room isn't that big, and the max the speakers can be apart is about 6.5 feet.

Thoughts? Ideas? Your helps is appreciated.

I actually have. Both at ListenUp and at RMAF (demoed by Sandy Gross himself!). Maybe it's just me, but I found them a little dark. Also, I was listening to music, not a movie.

2 Motion 20's, a 50xt and Dynamo 500 = $2550
2 Triton Sevens and super center XL = $2200 (or $2000 with the X, or $100 less with the Super Sat)

There's also the Chane Loudspeakers. http://www.chanemusiccinema.com/chane-loudspeakers over at HTS the Arx A3's (I think that was the model, now the brand is Chane) was indistinguishable from the MartinLogan Motion 12's.

Strange. My Aon3s are anything but dark. Extremely detailed without being bright or harsh. I am going to get a demo of the XT to see how they compare. I feel the GE is superior to the last series of ML Motion.

It was actually the A5 (first generation not the one just released).

Sweet! I just picked up a pair myself. Breaking them in now and they sound fantastic so far.

Are you using an LX16 for a center channel?

I am using one as a center channel and work surprisingly well
My plan was to use an LX16 for the center as well but i found a single used 35XT on ebay, should be here tomorrow. Interested to hear how the 3 of them will sound together…i have high hopes.

The would make sense as the 3's don't have the built in sub. I was listening to the Triton One's (I think). Sandy Gross was there demoing them, so I assume they were tuned to his taste. I also heard a full Golden ear se up at ListenUp a year ago, also with Tritons. Both my buddy (a Klipsch guy) and I thought the tritons sounded too thick for our taste. That might be tunable. As soon as I saved up enough money, I will start an actual search. Probably at RMAF 2015.

Question for the owners, if you have a moment. I have a chance to buy a set of SL3 towers to be connected to my Krell KAV-300r integrated receiver. Obviously the SL3's are a little aged at 19 years old. The seller is asking $1000, I'm trying to get him to come off the price at the moment. I know the seller well, and do a lot of his work. We pulled the speakers from his theater which is rarely used (at best). He did however keep the speakers powered even when not in use.

My question:

Should I be interested in these speakers, or will money be better spent on a newer set of ESL's a slightly higher price point used? I like the idea of the larger driver in the SL3, but I'm concerned with the age.

You better make sure those panels are ok. Do some research on panel replacement and if ML will even still service those. Its a big gamble. Bad panel and you will likely pay more than the price of the speaker to get them fixed. .
