I need some advice on an upgrade for my 7.1 setup. The house was just built and I have new Martin Logan Helos 22's in the ceiling for my surrounds. The room is 16x23 with 10' ceilings. For the front I am currently using what was always supposed to be a temporary solution. I have Martin Logan Motion 10's for the L&R and a Motion 8 for the center. They were used in a small room in the old house, and don't seem to be filling this much larger room adequately. I have a chance to purchase a used pair of Martin Logan SL-3's for the fronts. I'm using a Marantz SR-7007 (125wpc) as my receiver. Will the SL-3's work in this set-up? Should I be looking at something else? Thanks.

Depends on the price of sl3. I have had motion 10s morion 12s and Esls. Motion 12s are wayyyyyy better then the motion 10s.

And of course the Esls are even better of course

When I went speaker shopping in 1995 found a pair of SL3 in a (roughly) 25x40x12 demo room. We had them cranked.

Power was Krell KAV-250.

I remember standing at the far end of the room with a friend discussing their sound.

I bought a pair.

--

Something else? Lots of stuff out there to buy. Good luck.

--

But I'd have no qualms about trying SL3 in that size room.

I had them in maybe 15x35 open living/dining room with 18 foot ceiling in Texas for two years, then in an open two story condo/loft thing.

It never occurred to me that they weren't capable in either of those settings.

I still have them, in the bedroom now.

--

Here's a review and measurements.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to get Best Buy to price match an online price for a pair of ESL's, so I went new and saved almost $500 bucks. They should be in later this week. I can't wait to get them set up.

Good choice, the SL3's are getting a bit long in the tooth.....

FYI, I noticed the other day that Verizon has the EM-ESL and Motion 20 available as well as other ML products in their rewards program . I'm not sure how the warranty would pan out, I guess it all depends on who fulfills the order.

Does any have experience with ML's architectural speakers. Looking for feedback on the Vanquish, Axis, or Edge speakers. I can't find any reviews of these speakers and I searched high and low.

Here I was looking for the other question, which is best. Not many reviews out there. Many of the buyers of these speakers are not forum types. The speakers are nice performing speakers. As I have already told you, I really like the tweeter in these. Enough so that I got a high powered version for my DIY all-out build that I did.

I have six of the EM-R's for Dolby Atmos and they work fine. Never had other ceiling speakers so I guess I can't compare. I wouldn't use them for music or anything, but they are good as surrounds/ambient noise.

I have the ceiling for my atmos The em-r r I went with them because of of folded tweeters, they don't get that much use yet as atmos movies are developing. The larger vanquish are fairly big an would drive into the floor from the ceiling. I also went with the stage x as center(best call) hope this helps

I'll bet those Edge speakers sound great - good choice for in wall speakers.

How good of a deal are you talking about? IMO, the installer series looks good, sounds OK, but can do better for the price or just as good for less. I used to sell them when working for Magnolia Design Center, was never very impressed.

Dang, that's really good deal. They aren't bad. Not by a long shot. If you are getting them partially from trade, are there other options? And what are you using as mains?

If you are just looking to change your surround speakers, and keep the Def Tech. L / C R speakers, why not install Def. Tech. surrounds? Shoot us an email at AV Science - maybe we can help. I like sticking with all speakers from the same manufacturer myself, for a more seamless sound field.

Hi all

My parents have a Martin Logan Motion 6 center channel, and they are looking to wall mount it. any bracket that was included is long gone, and any ideas on what i'd actually need (or photos of the stock bracket since I can't find any) would be very helpful. Any ideas are welcomed.

Thanks.

Try calling Martin Logan - they are pretty helpful. You might be able to get a replacement bracket.
