I am looking for some recommendations for a 5.0 speaker setup driven by a Denon AVR-2805. I have a SVS PB12/Plus-2 as my sub.

My listening area is about 23'x16' with a 10' ceiling. That opens to a kitchen area behind. The total volume is about 6100 cubic feet. The distances from the sweet spot to the speakers are as follows FL 16', FR, 16', C 14', SL 15', and SR 7'.

The Movie to Music ratio is about 70/30. One limiting factor is that the opening below my screen for the center is 19". Having the center channel above the screen won't make it past the wife.

Based one the posts I have read I am considering the following:

Ascend:
CMT-340 SE mains
CBM-170 SE C center
CBM-170 SE surrounds

Axiom:
M50 mains
VP1000 center
M2 surrounds

Athena:
LS-500 mains
LS-C100 center
LS-100 surrounds

Athena:
AS-F2.2 mains
AS-C1.2 center
AS-R1.2 surrounds
or AS-B2.2 surrounds

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

DO NOT waste your money on the Axiom M50's! You will be missing vital mid-range frequencies. For your size room go with the M60's. You will thank me later. Also, if you can swing the $$$ get the VP150 center and QS8 surrounds. If you need to save up for the QS8's then get some el-cheapo sony bookshelf speakers for temporary surrounds. That way you can get the M60's and VP150 right away! This is very important. Make sure you use the factory outlet from Axiom as it will save you $$$$. Especially if you can get a whole 5.1 package all at once will it save you 15%!

Check out my HT.

Better to want what you don't have, than to have what you don't want!

Thanks for the info. I looked at the VP150 but it is too wide. I am limited to 19" and it is 27.5".

I have a room almost the same, let us know what you decide, as I am planning my room also. I already have some older axiom m22's, but may use them in another space and get 5 matching m3's or CBM170's... Still in the head scratching phase really.

I have decided to audition the following two setups:

Ascend:
CMT-340 SE mains
CBM-170 SE center (340 won't fit below TV)
CMT-340 SE surrounds

Elemental Designs:
A6 - 6T6 - Tower mains
A6 - 5T5 - MTM center
A6 - 5T5 - MTM surrounds

I'll let everyone know what the verdict is.

Stephen

What were your thoughts on these, comparatively? I'm looking into the same, as well.

Since you have a sub, I would look at the Axioms as well. The factory outlet will save you 10%, plus another 5% if you buy 5 speakers. Get the M60's or M80's over the 50's, you won't regret it. Also, get Qs4's or Qs8's over 22's for surrounds, they are one of the best surrounds on the market. The VP100 is a great center if the 150 won't fit, or consider one of their bookshelfs with tonal qualities of the floorstanding models.

If you want to audition Axiom's, just check their audition thread on the Axioms forum, many friendly people will let you have a listen in your area, that is what sold me.

I forgot to mention, I also use the 2805. It drives my VP150 and 4 Qs8's. I use Odyssey monoblocks to drive the 80's, however, the 2805 had no issues prior.

I vote for the Athena 1.2's c1.2 and bipole 1.2 surrounds, then again Im partial because that is what I have and love it, especially for the price. It should fill your room nicely with the right receiver. This should fall into your budget on audioadvisor.com, check out the Athena thread, there are loads of posts
