Hi all. I'm in the market for in-wall and in-ceiling speakers and need guidance on which Triad speakers would work best for my application - the product nomenclature confuses me a bit. Thanks in advance for your guidance.

About my install:
- My HT living room is small to medium size. It's roughly 14x14 and it opens up to the kitchen. Not a big space. I sit about 11' - 12' away from the screen.
- I'm looking to spend $1,000 - $1,200 per speaker for my L/C/R (in-walls for L/R and in-ceiling for center)
- I've narrowed my search down to Triad and Martin Logan's Architectural Series (uses a folded ribbon tweeter)
- I'm coming from Ascend Sierra towers and Horizon Center, which don't fit in my new living room.
- This is for HT duty mainly. I'll move my Sierra Towers to my other living room for music listening.

Here are my questions:
- given my price range, which Triad in-wall (L/R) and in-ceiling (center) speakers would you recommend?
- bonus question, any opinion on the ML vs. Triad speakers? I heard the Martin Logan 40 towers this past weekend and thought they sounded really good. Nice top end with the ribbon speakers.
Since we have already talked, I will stay out of this one.

Hi Mike, thanks for your help. You've been really helpful, and have helped me narrow it to two great choices. The one thing I am stuck on is how much of a difference the sealed enclosure (Triad) has over the open back of the ML. I like the ML in that it has the ribbon and have heard nothing but great things about Triad.

Denon 4311ci

Since we rep both brands, you will need to call me to discuss.

Sure since we are in the Triad thread, Triad is best. Come over to the ML thread and I can tell you the ML are the best.

Why the banter? I'd never, ever buy open backed speakers without having my saw ready to build backer boxes!!!!

Triad wins!!!

I would go with enclosed speakers. You can make your own enclosure for ML or other brands but you need to find out the ideal volume the cavity needs to be for a given speaker. ML would probably be able to give you that info. I know Paradigm has been able to tell us what volume cavity is best suited for some of their speakers where their back boxes or speakers with an enclosure (Triad) weren't a possibility. Since ML is a sister company to Paradigm they might be able to help you.

And to add another point, open back speaker were built for infinite baffle.........most require large boxes!

To the dealers out there. Any word on atmos toppers to add to a present system to make it atmos with using bounce? I would like to add to my living room system but don't want to get rid of my triangles. I swore I saw they had just tops coming out very early in the atmos releases from triad.

Figured that would hold me over till I finish my room in the next year or so. I do t move to quick.

Omnisub 12

I just wanted to give a shout out to Triad. I upgraded from a Omnisub 8 to an Omnisub 12 about two months ago. I'm loving the new sub. I had to work with customer service a lot because of a long story that I won't get in to, but I've rarely worked with a company that takes care of its customers as well as Triad. After it was all said and done, I kind of wanted to hang out with the person who was helping me. I was already in love with Triad before this, but now I recommend them to everyone and I only have their entry level stuff.

Triad Metal Grills

Triad Changing to Perforated Grills Throughout Speaker Lineup

In a little over a week, Triad will change from expanded metal grills to more designer-friendly perforated grills on all our in wall & in ceiling speakers and our in room & on wall speakers with metal grills.

Perforated grills have a more uniform hole pattern compared to the expanded diamond shape that we have used for years on our Triad-built speakers. Perf grills offer a more consistent look with color matching, yielding better results for your client. We have been using perforated grills on our round speaker lines for years; now we will offer that look throughout our lineup of metal grills. Our new perf material has acoustic transparency very similar to our current expanded material and is less directional.

We have wanted to make this change for a long time; a recent material modification by our grill manufacturer has accelerated this change. Although the new grill material is more expensive to us, there will be no price changes to you.

This will be a running change. If you want new speakers or grills in a room that currently has older Triad speakers with expanded metal and you want to match the expanded metal look, let us know so that we can build them using our remaining supply of expanded material.

Thank you for all of your support.
The Triad Team

Triad is working on a small stand alone reflective Atmos speaker, but not an available product at this time.

I actually had a chance to demo a prototype of those very speakers and see it up close at a Triad demo. Sounded very cool and was used in a room that was ideal for that type of configuration. Although IMO it is best if in-ceiling speakers can be used.
