Right, for perf screens being further back like that helps with the frequency attenuation. For woven screens, it is much less critical (though to get it "just right" it's worth looking at testing data for the particular kind of woven screen you are going to use).

(less critical = ideal distance is often a few inches rather than a foot+)

Nathan is correct.

With woven screens you can get closer (4-6"). I usually stick with the safest bet of a bit further away. You should check with your screen manufacturer if you wish to go closer.

Another benefit of in-room over in-wall is the ability to toe-in the left and right speakers, although an angled baffle wall could work too but it is also not adjustable.
