Unless those X's are 9's, then it's amazing to me that CC would sell it for less than what it would cost ordering it on-line. But I wouldn't complain!

Must try to stop by there today.....

CC sells things for retail, occasionally you'd see 10% off though like the 720 is going for. BTW store prices and web prices are different. Just bought a sony dvp700 dvd player and it was 5dollars more in the store, had to have to take it off.

It seems like everytime I go to BB I'm teaching the "sales people" something...why do we bother to go there?!?

Because we are all too impatient to wait for UPS to come.

1. Cause it's a nice place to browse.
2. I like the Reward points and the fact that I can almost always get them to match other prices (even internet).
3. It's convenient buying from a local retailer.

I don't go there for information.

don't expect high knowledge from sales people if you are not willing to pay for it. You can have either one, cheap prices or good service. Can't have both. Go to crutchfield for their knowledgeable sales.

Slumpey,

I didn't have as much luck at CC as you did. The salesguy was, although polite, just as clueless as the BB salesguy. His suggestion was to come to the store on Friday or Saturday and see if they had them in stock. He said he wasn't sure how he could even check on the computer if they were going to be carrying the 820s, so I Didn't bother asking him what they might be selling them for.

Oh, well. More waiting.

I was pointed to this site in another forum.

Sony STR-DG820

For $50 cheaper and free shipping, I might just have to order on-line after all.

That should be <$300 by fall/winter if form & history is repeated.

Really looking forward to seeing initial impressions from people on here with the 820s. I ordered my 920 over a month ago and have been impatiently waiting for May 28th since. I even mounted 2 other speakers last week in preparation for going from 5.1 to 7.1.

Is there anybody who preordered from Sony's website? If so could you let us know when you get the shipping confirmation email because that will be a good indicator of when we can expect to see them arriving at retailers.

820 will sound exactly like the 720. Same amp internals, only one more hdmi and internal decoding of hd audio.

Ah, my bad, I didn't realize the 720 and 820 were so similar. The 920 won't be using the same amp internals as the 720 and 820 will it? Because looking at the Sony website, the 920 weighs 5.75 lbs (roughly 33%) more than the 820 and 720 and there's no way that the Faroudja DCDi chip weighs that much.

Can anyone explain to me why I cant seem to adjust levels of the surround speakers while using pcm via hdmi? I have a ps3 hooked up to the 720. When i go through the menus, the fronts, center, and sub are adjustable, and the rear surrounds arent. I get sound from them though and it does sound spectacular. But am boggled as to why i cant adjust them. Thanx.

I was looking at the 820 on sony.com and I can't find anywhere that claims the 820 can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio internally. It says "In addition to decoding uncompressed audio (LPCM via HDMI™), the STR-DG820 decodes the latest audio formats from Dolby® Labs and DTS® making this model fully compatible with Blu-ray Disc." but never specifically mentions Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD. If you compare the 820, 920 and 2100 the comparison chart claims only the 2100 can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD. Is this just a mistake or did Sony change the specs?

i need some help figuring out what would be the smartest route...i can get the 720 for about 254 now because my old old pioneer vsx-403 has driven me nuts with all its problems. I have an xbox 360 and im really confused with all the sound codecs and upconverting stuff. I dont have a hdmi compatible tv yet but will this summer and i dont think i will be planning on using a blu ray or ps3 as my budget is VERY limited. Will I be fine as far as sound and converting on the 360? Also, how close are the wattage ratings to the actual ones on the 720? I want my surround sound to just rumble and surprise the sh!t outof everyone! Thank you so much for anyone who reads this and helps out a high school student eager to the av world...

If you're not getting Blueray and don't need DD HD or dts Master, then the 720 will work just fine for you.

Well, after reading a bunch of good reviews for Vann's, I decided to give them a try. Not wanting to lose the good price, I attempted to put in a pre-order today. Got all the way to the end with the final "Click here to place this order" button, and it brought up a new screen saying "Error: This page could not be found. Continue shopping to the left and try again later."

Not a good sign, and I'm not feeling so great about them. Will hold off for now.

I went to a different CC and that salesguy knew how to look stuff up on the computer. He found that they have the 820s at the warehouse, but there was such a low inventory that he suspected it was only the "one per store display model". He said that would arrive at the store in a week or so and then some time after that, the real inventory would arrive.

Dang, that sucks. I was really hoping they would be early rather than late since the website says "on or around 5/23." Oh well, I've waited over a month already for my 920, what's another week I guess.

just wanted to let you all know that I have the 720 with a ps3 (60gig). I played a hybrid SACD on it and it did allow me to hear the multichannel audio. Now I don't know if its the full quality version, or knocked down to dts or what but when I play it, it displays pcm 176khz on the receiver. It does sound really good. So does it play sacds thru hdmi? I dont know, but it sounds awesome. Just a note for those that have the 720 and ps3. I recall the manual saying it wont do the sacd thru hdmi... so who knows. All i know is with movies like the day after tomorrow in dts ma and now the super audio cds, Im one happy camper!!!

Nobody really knows. It's actually pretty surprising how few a number of retailers are even listing these products even though they're going to be released any day now. Hell, even Amazon doesn't have the 920 listed yet and they're usually all about getting pre-orders.

I looked up the 820 on that computers4sure site and they had it for an unbelievable price of $270. However, I've looked up reviews for that e-tailer and they do not look good. A lot of orders not being shipped and then when customers try to find out a status, e-mails sent to the addresses on the page get sent back undeliverable.

Can the new receivers handle DSD over HDMI instead of having the player convert it to pcm for transport over HDMI?
