Have emailed w4s to see if they can send me the potetimeter replacement and screws as the screws I managed to sort out as when I sent it to the dealer he didn't put it back the same way as there are some screws which are slight smaller that's why they were not flush

Hi guys. Anybody try to demo 2 SX1000 MK II's vs a Parasound Halo A21.

Here's my dilema. I have two SX1000 MK II mono-blocks, and one SX500 MK II mono-block powering Paradigm Studio 100v5's and a CC690v5. My side and rear surrounds are Paradigm ADP590v5, and Studio 20v5 bring in the rear. Powering my surrounds is an Emotiva UPA-500 (80w per channel). My 3 front run off XLR. The surround are RCA, from a Marantz AV7702 (Soon to be replaced with an AV8802). I was thinking of selling off the SX500, and UPA-500 and get an A51. This way my center gets powered by the A51. I feel my CC690 is not clear/low with voices sometimes and I have to increase the volume to hear the dialogue, & makes my setup simpler. I do listen to music as much as movies. My problem is, are my SX1000 mono-blocks competitive with the Halo A21. Any thoughts? I'm really looking for any input/ ideas on my situation.

Just purchased a Wyred 4 Sound ST-250 amp. Should arrive tomorrow. Wanting to hear how it will compare to my Carver M-1.0t MKII opt2 power amp. I realize the Carver has significantly more power but I will be comparing each amp for its sound reproduction, imaging and sound stage, then decide which amp will stay.

The ST-250 arrived today and I had to play with it all day today. I am very impressed with the sound stage and clarity. I thought the Carver was really good but this Wyred power amp still is even better. It projects a wider, and deeper sound stage with even more clarity than the Carver. The Wyred power amp has a blacker background and produces a more full and rich overall presentation. I do not feel that I am losing anything, even thought the Carver has significantly more power than the Wyred. Looks like I will be selling the Carver power amp shortly.

Just ordered the MC-7150 and was wondering if anyone could provide some feedback on the unit. I could not find any reviews on this specific item, so went by reviews of other Wyred 4 Sound Amps/products. Vey positive from what I could find.

Thanks for your thoughts/opinions about this item.

Any updates? I've got an original M1.0t in pristine shape and was looking at the mkii opt2 upgrade. If the Wyred really is tons better, I'd rather just put the cash towards that.

Thanks

I wouldn't say it is a ton better than a MKII opt.2 but I like the sound better which is up another notch. More life like and definitely much quieter background. One of the problems I had with both of my MKII opt.2 Carvers is the low level hum that I can hear from the chassis. Not in the audio chain but an actual physical hum with both my Carvers. This hum is not annoying but can be heard if you put your ear next to the amps. Overall, I still like the Wyred over the modified Carvers which sounded good to begin with. Let me put it to you this way, I sold both my Carver M-1.0t MKIIs and kept the Wyred. Your stock amp is a couple of notches below in clarity and detail vs. a MKII opt.2 amp. And this Wyred amp is still another step up from that. At least that is how I hear it in my Magnepan system for reference. Hope that helps.

That was great, thanks! The hum bugs me a little, but I can only hear it when there's no music, my fridge isn't running, the A/C or heater aren't running, etc. I do want a dead-silent amp at some point though.

I'll probably check one of these out unless I can find a production Hypex-based amp.

Newish owner of W4S amp, pre and dac. Most listening is classical. Room is medium (?) size: 12x20x8. Recommendations, advice, opinions on speakers, priced as W4S gear is, would be greatly appreciated.

If there is already a thread on this subject, directions to it will also be greatly appreciated.

In advance, Merci beau...

I have two W4S SX-500s, ST-500 and ST-250 amps in my system. All the amps are dead quiet and when using balanced connections to an Emotiva XMC-1 there is no hum or hiss from my speakers. I bought all the amps used and saved quite a bit by doing so. I'm very happy with the W4S amps and have no interest in "upgrading".

Bill

My SACD collection and HRAudio.net Library, getting larger as my wallet gets smaller ;-).

Emotiva XMC-1, Wyred 4 Sound SX-500s, ST-500, ST-250, Oppo BDP-103/105D, Panasonic TC-P60GT50 plasma, Panamax 5100EX, Salk 1801-TLs, Salk 1801b center, ADS 300C (surrounds) and two Rythmik F12SEs.

A few questions if anyone is willing to indulge and knows the answer.

1) Is anyone here using W4S amps with GoldenEar Technology speakers?

2) I'm potentially looking at getting a either a stereo amp OR pair of mono amps and and then getting a 5 channel amp for the rest of my surround system. Are there major differences between the mAMP and the ST mII series given the lower output (obviously the mAMP is only 250w while the ST can be either 250w or 500w). I'm asking more about design differences, not just the wattage.

3) Why the small price gap between the mAMP and SX1000? Am I missing something?

4) The MMC currently says out of stock something new is coming soon. Does anyone have any details?

I can't help much the other questions but the mAmp uses third gen ICEpower modules. The SX used the 2nd gen.

Go for the third gen. Much better.

Thanks for the feedback. After doing further research I decided not to go with separate monos and just get a capable MC amp. I guess I'm really interested in MMC 7. It looks like they're permanently out of stock and its successor has yet to be released. The MC7150 is not a multi-mono design and the MC line is more than I want to spend. Do you think I would get any bites on a WTB post?

I'm running mAMPs for my R&L channels, and a 5 channel MMC for my center, surrounds, and zone 2 outside speakers. Processor is a 7702. I am very happy with the Wyred 4 Sound amps. I've been into audio for about 40 years, and have owned a lot of gear. I love this current set-up. I would definitely wait for the MMC successor or find a used one though, so you get the "multi-mono" design.

Thanks. That's what I'll do. I'll post a WTB here and on Audiogon.
