**The update is set for some hardware HDMI handshaking problems, BD disc audio format display problems**

**GUI rolling word speed up ...**

**The best environment for update is using wired LAN cable hooked with AVP.**

**Make sure the ISP you are using can pass all the data from Denon server .**

**It will freeze the AVP if the update cannot complete.**

I was given permission by The President/Owner of Audioholics (Gene DellaSala) to post a re-print of a comprehensive information page about the firmware updates he has on the Audioholics website. Thank you to Gene for allowing me to share this most helpful information here on our thread.

Also Gene has started a Denon AVP-A1HDCI / POA-A1HDCI Review Support Thread . Gene will be supporting this product there and has direct contact with Denon to answer any questions. This is an excellent companion site for our AVP/POA owners thread.

Denon AVP-A1HDCI & AVR-5308CI Firmware Update

*Anyone considering this update should proceed with caution as some AVP owners have experienced some serious unit freeze ups and operational issues. More info on this will be provided as it becomes available.*

[update] 08/10/08

After hearing about the success that AVP owners are having with the update here recently, I decided to give it a go myself. I'm happy to report that my AVP update was successful and went through without a hitch. The update took exactly 61 minutes. So it "seems" as though whatever problems were there before, may have now been corrected. After the update I tested the music streaming to make sure that was ok, it was fine.

Firmware

Denon has just announced firmware updates for their flagship AVP-A1HDCI 12CH A/V Processor. There are two updates which are tabulated below. The updates will only benefit users experiencing these operational issues. All updates are cumulative; meaning the latest one will include the previous ones if the unit had not been updated prior. These update corrections are for North America units only – other updates are available for other markets as well.

Models Affected: AVP-A1HDCI, AVR-5803CI

SUBJECT: Correction of the Firmware via DPMS (Denon Product Management Server)

Update #1 April 16th, 2008

SYMPTOM:

If "Hi-Def-signal" of 720p inputs to the unit, it can scale to "1080i" but can not

scale to "1080p".

"Pop" noise occurs when the muting function turns on.

The noise occurs when the input selector is changed.

A different digital signal might be output to "OPT-4" output.

The connectivity of HDMI is improved.

CAUSE: The malfunctions occurred due to bugs in the firmware.

COUNTERMEASURE: corrected the firmware so that no malfunction occurs.

Update #2: June 16, 2008

SYMPTOM:

Addition of the Rhapsody Merge function.

When space is used for the character of SSID, Wi-Fi cannot be set.

Problem for Tuner preset memory when RDS is received.

Scroll speed of "Artist" becomes slow when playback music files with DLNA by network-audio.

Spelling error on web browser display. "Controler" > "Controller"

MVUP/down (master volume up/down) command can affect zone 2 volume if any zone 2 command has been recently sent.

No title via internet radio with the new firmware version 1.60.

When AVP-A1HDCI connects Marantz DV9500 with EXT.IN connection and chose "Monitor2", Sound output stops.

The disc where "Dolby Digital" and "TrueHD" are alternately recorded is reproduced. And, when "Dolby Digital" and "TrueHD" are promptly switched, the sound is not outputted.

When the stream signal of "DTS-HD MA 7.1ch" is reproduced by setting "5.1ch", the sound is distorted.

Noise occur from surround channel when playback a blue-ray disc "The Golden Compass" when connected AVP-A1HDCI and DVD3800BD.

The connectivity of "HDMI" and "CEC" is improved.

CAUSE: The malfunctions occurred due to bugs in the firmware.

COUNTERMEASURE: corrected the firmware so that no malfunction occurs.

Perhaps your speakers are not as power hungry like mine and 500w at 8ohms is overwhelming. The level at -12 is not acceptable because you don't know whether you reached the bottom or not and they will be louder then the rest in the system.

I have the exact same problem. two F113's. 500 W4S amps. My sub level check says -12. However all my speakers show a negative level check. How can that be? Wouldn't one of the speakers need to be positive or at least flat?

Audyssey pro authentification is a two step process :

1 the AVP must be recognize by the Audyssey software on teh PC

2 you must activate a key from the MAC adresse of the AVP unit that will cost 150$ US. That means you need an audyssey pro account.

You take the risk of loosing 150$

PM me maybe I can check it out over my own Audyssey pro acount (before doing any payment of course).

I experienced the same issue with my front amps (and the sub) that have a sensitivity higher then the other channels managed by the POA.

I understood (but I could explain this in the wrong way) that Audissey sets a certein level for the test signal (0db ?) and then work to set all the speakers level to 75db. Now if some of your channels are higher then the Audissey Denon range (+/- 12db) they cannot be set properly.

Now all your speakers are higher then 75db (some of them higher 87db), so all of them are lowered.

I tried to make after the Audissey setting a manual setting of the speakers level using an audiometer and loweirng the test tone to 10db (at the end I was able to stay properly withing the range of +/-12db - some of the speakers where boosted, some other cut and some at 0db), but I was told that this will reduce the level of accuracy of the Audissey settings.

So at the end I was suggested to get some XLR attenuators ( http://www.rothwellaudioproducts.co....tenuators.html ) to reduce my amps input sensitivity. I just got them yesterday and I'll test them in the next couple of days.

I couldn't remember if it was mac address or serial no since it's been over a year that I bought the license.

thx a lot.

The "Pro" software runs on a laptop and has a higher quality mic & preamp. The Pro can take up to thirty two measurements and do the required calculations from there. You can also program target curves or select from three default curves along with an option to use mid-range compensation.

You can store measurements for re-loading to the avp.

I don't know the answer to the last question.

PM sent thankyou

Quick question.... If any of you put your A1 in "Pure Direct" mode, do you loose video and revert to 2-channel ? I just went through the Denon dealer CI training and this is how it is designed, but my A1 doesn't do it.

Will test at home for you but i think hdmi will go into passthrough mode and if if external ins are used than ofcourse it doesn't go back to 2 channel.

update : just tested it and it indeed works like this.

Hello,

I've done about 3 firmware updates so far on my Denon - this time it got to VPLD Firm 01min updating failed.

I can't press menu or anything else - my only option is to power off and back on - it tries to continue the update but then gets the same error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
