Thats the task of source or destination, not some repeater.

Same crap as having a receiver on (wasting a LOT of power) just to be able to watch tv, why cant most (all?) avr's not pass video signals when in stand by?
If there are brands that do this let me know.

Most hi def shows on TV are 5.1 DD. I let my 5308CI convert Tivo HD series 3 to 1080p and add THX post processing. Sounds and looks awesome.

Dynamic volume sounds awesome if it works. I'm glad I waited and didn't buy an Onkyo606 right away.

Does anyone know if the Denon's offer biamp ability for front channels if using 5.1 like the Onkyo?

That's been a basic feature of pretty much all their AVR's since the xx06 models, but who knows if they will sustain that for the xx09's. Of course, they used to have preamp outputs all the way down to the 19xx model and they took that away for anything below the 2808ci last year

Dynamic Volume, does this mean I wont have to turn up and down the damn volume every time i watch a blu ray, some of the movies are mixed so poorly, I live in a condo so i cant crank it, i noticed 300 dialogue is very quiet while action is way too loud, not all movies of course, rambo is pretty much all equal, except for that massive nuke he sets off, i had to turn it down, i should just move to a house :/

I have two big questions:

1. How many HDMI inputs will the 2809 have?

2. What month will the 2809 be on the shelves?

4 HDMI inputs, and I read that it will be released July in the States, and Aug in the UK.

So hopefully August in Australia too, and at the same RRP as the 2808 (AU$2299)?

So still no Ethernet on the 2809? That was one of the features I really like on the 3808 since it allows easier firmware upgrades than using a serial port with a PC like I had to with my 3806.

I'm really torn. I don't know if I can wait until July for the 2809. I REALLY REALLY need a 3rd HDMI input. Right now, my PS3 and 360 Elite are taking up the 2 inputs and my PVR is stuck using component. I notice the HDMI picture looks sharper and brighter. Don't want to invest in a switcher because I know I'll replace my AVR in a few months.

Get a cheap manual HDMI switcher from Monoprice to use until you get the new receiver. They will work without any problems.
You can get a 2x1 manual HDMI switch from Monoprice for under $20. An inexpensive temporary solution.
I use one to switch between the PS3 and an Oppo since I don't use the OPPO much. It works without any problems with 7.1 PCM from the PS3 and also with DSD over HDMI for SACD from the OPPO.

I have a very large image of the AVR-2309CI that says it is XM ready as well as Sirius ready. The chart on post #186 is missing that about supporting XM. I doubt they would remove XM support going from the 2308 to the 2309? Besides not stating how many HDMI ports on each model, I wonder how many other facts are missing?

Which makes me wonder if the power on volume level control information from that table is accurate for 1909

I've been looking to replace my Denon AVR-3803 for some time now. I was all ready to get the Sony STR-DG920 until it was delayed and I saw the Denon news release.

Wasn't looking to spend much on a receiver this go around but the AVR-2809CI is looking good for my needs (4 HDMI switching, Input Renaming, iPod control) and wants (HDMI 1.3a - deep color, HD audio formats). I paid about the same price for my AVR-3803 years and years ago.

I'll still wait for more information on the AVR-2809CI and weigh $600 versus $1200 before making a final decision though. July is going to be "hot" indeed!

I'd also consider the $850 AVR-2309 as it also has 4 HDMI switching, input renaming, iPod control, HD audio formats, even though it is 100 watts x 7 if price is a issue.

Well the chart doesn't even list Audyssey Dynamic volume, so I suspect its a installer's technical support document listing of functions.

I am wondering about the 3809 ......... anyone know if it will be shown at Cedia in September or maybe it will not be shown until CES 2009 in January. I know based on history / timeframe in this case / and Denon Jeff that it will be one or the other. If these are not shown until CES it means we may not see these units for 9-12 months (I think these will be for sale no later than next April).

I am sitting beside my unopened AVR-3808CI and debating whether or not to open it or take it back and wait for the 3809. I would prefer a unit that can deinterlace a 1080i sat signal and the 3808 cannot without losing detail. I can't decide what to do.......

It would make sense for next year. Otherwise you would think they would have announced it with their recent press release.

The document is a general overview and was produced by Denon. From my history with Denon these are normally pretty accurate but do undergo changes as time develops; they give this just as a preview to the new models. I will be attending a training and will try to get more info to unanswered questions.

i would think, based on the "upgradability" of the 3808, that the intent is to give it a longer shelf life. i have been lurking in this thread for weeks, and given the Audyssey announcements for the 09 series, was prepared to wait. however, there are hints (very strong ones) that suggest they will offer audyssey upgrades. i pulled the trigger yesterday after finding a deal i could not pass up...i sure hope i'm not wrong about the upgrades!

Matt as you said normally that might be the case, but for example the 1508 thru the 2808 models all offer XM ready where as your chart shows the 2809 on up for example. Hope your able to supply more information soon.

110 watts x 7 (20 hz to 20 kHz). Your 2802 has 90 watts x 6 for comparison. Its would be quite a upgrade as this new receiver offers a lot of increased capabilities as well as 4 HDMI inputs and Dynamic Volume.

There's an Audyssey rep on the "Official" Audyssey thread that might be of help...

Another posted in April document on Denon's web site shows HDMI CEC already implemented with the spring 08 firmware update for the 3808/4308:

http://usa.denon.com/AVR_CI_HDMI_Cap...08xx_v0408.pdf

The overview document you posted from Denon says HDMI CEC won't be available until the September 08 firmware update for the 3808/4308.

Awesome, Thanks alot. I'm deciding between the DENON 2809ci and the Pioneer VSX-1018TXH-K. Any opinions on this?

You should be deciding between 2809ci and any one of the mid elite pioneer and not the 1018
