Hi All, I've managed to get hold of a copy of some HDMI & DSP FirmWare for my SR8001 but it is only version h50 - I understand that h52 is the latest version of the HDMI FW and I was wondering if anyone could provide this too me (via PM / email if need be).

I have all the instructions etc on how to do this plus relevant "uploaders" etc so Im really only looking for the actual DSP & HDMI "mot" etc Files.

Unfortunately my local Aussie Marantz service center (independant repairer) is clueless and doesn't have the latest files and im not going to leave my AMP with them for 2+ weeks while they source it.

You will be the first I have known to try this themselves.
The updates are said to be pretty harry on these. Post back how it goes if you do it.

I'm surviving fine on my original SR7001 FW.

Nah they aren't hairy, just long winded with a process for each of the 3 sections (Main, DSP & HDMI).

Well it turns out I spoke to the wrong guy at my local service center - I thought i'd give them another go and this time the bloke I spoke to knew exactly what I was talking about and confirmed that he does indeed have the h52 firmware.

I also asked him about my 8001 randomly turning itself off for no apparent reason and he said the voltage sensors in the early versions where too sensitive and he will replace them for me and upgrade my 8001 FW in 3-5 days.

I asked them (Marantz) but everything I got was to send my receiver back to the service team.
They did not give me any further details

Check what i got from the internet

main marantz upgrade program for H8
marantz upgrade program for HITACHI H8

This program is the Upgrade Program only for the Flash ROM in the HITACHI H8 F-ZTAT microprocessor.
This is used within the boot-mode of the on-board programing mode in the H8 microprocessor.

The action was confirmed with the following operating systems.
WindoswNT4.0 Japanse version
Windows98 English version

Connection
Between PC and Microprocessor
port : Serial port(COM1 or COM2)
Cable : 9pins serial straight cable G

Process of the writing
1 Start up this program.
2 Turn on the Push Lock Switch(SU02) , which is located on the main board.
3 Turn on the power supply of the main board. (Starts up with boot-mode )
4 Push the [Connect] button.
At this time, if the connection is passed, one message "Success to the H8 micro processor
connection" will be shown on the dialog box. If the connection is failed, "Connection error was occured" will be shown on the dialog box.

5 Push the [Send] button.
At first, the Writing Control Program will be sent. And then, the Firmware Program , which was made by the user, will be sent.
After the writing was successully finished, the message "Finished the firmware program sending" will be shown on the dialog box.
6 Turn off the power supply on the main board.
7 Turn off the Push Lock Switch(SU02) , which is located on the main board.
8 The writing control program‚ The Writing Control Program
This program (H8 Firmware Upgrade) is used to transmit the Writing Control Program to the H8 microprocessor.

This process is done when the Firmware Program , which was made by the user, is written by the boot-mode of the H8 microprocessor.
If the Firmware program is written to the Flash ROM in the H8 microprocessor, this Writing Control Program is used.
Now three Writing Control Prorgams , which have three different baud-rates, were made.
For more details, please refer to the Hardware manuals for each H8 microprocessors.

Any further progress on this?

There has been so much success on the Onkyo upgrades that I was hoping we Marantz owners would have a chance to do upgrades on our own units also.

As I mentioned in the main topic, h55 fixes a problem with DTS & DSD in h52 but i wasn't able to get any specifics.

Hey all,

I wish I could post some positive information here on the update! Unfortunatly my receiver has been out of my home now for 50 days or 7 weeks as of yesterday!

I sent off as directed by Marantz Customer Service on the 4th of October to one of their service shops here in the Northwest. I contacted them after the third week to inquire on its status. I continued checking in at the end of each week and on Friday I was informed that it was ready to go and they could rush out on Saturday or send on Monday, but they would have to take to UPS to get boxed up and did not know if they would have time to do on Saturday. I said Monday would be fine, but asked what happened to the original and outer box I had sent it to them in? He responded back "You sent with original box in outer one", and I told him yes, took photos of it being packed up at the UPS Store. I also told him to insure that the power cord and remote were secured in the box so they would not jostle around. He said "You sent with the Remote, well I guess we will have to look for that then"!

Before I was a little irritated that it was taking so long, but now I'm pretty irate about the whole ordeal. Since then I've been thinking on what condition my receiver is going to be returned to me, yet alone when.

The really sad thing is, I had only just purchased it on September 5th to upgrade system in my bedroom. It took almost 30 days for Marantz to figure out where I should send it to that was close to my location, so I've never even had it hooked up yet!

I'll keep you posted on the outcome, but recently I purchased an Onkyo TX-NR906 since I had sold my Marantz SR9600 in August that I was going to replace with the new Emotiva equipment. Needless to say the Emotiva gear has been push out, so I had a void in the living room to fill. Guess when my Marantz finally comes back I'll probably sell, and put the Onk in the bedroom.

I'm probably done with Marantz again for awhile until they catch up with the rest of civilization!

Regards,
TB

In your original post, you are talking of h52. I already have that firmware. I was asking about h55. I emailed Marantz and they replied that they don't release any information about firmware updates. I was told to send it to the service center if I wanted the update....but I'm not willing to part with my receiver for a month to get it done. Has anyone tried walking into a service center with the receiver and having them do it the same day?

that is because h55 wasn't out back then - when i took my AVR in h52 was the latest FW.

my local marantz repair center does allow walk-ins but australia is a different market and not run by marantz HQ.

Yep, and they will also update any components that need replacing - mine was an early 8001 and the voltage sensors were to sensitive for our power and would shut the AVR down every now and then; Adept updated them in mine.

I've had the amp for about 2 years and thats never happened. While I'ld love to remove potential problems, perhaps mine is happy? I'ld however love to get the latest hdmi firmware still.

OUt of the 2 marantz service centers I know of in Adelaide I think Adept are the better. Much better response in regarding to simple jobs like firmware updates.

yes but you are better off taking your 8001 to your local service center as the upgrade process is not supported for customers (its a PITA in general) and will void your warranty.

I have no local service center anymore. I am in Ireland. They pulled all service centers out of Ireland about 6 months after I bought the receiver. This means my local one is now in the UK. It will cost me well over $100 to send it there and get it back.

My question do any of these upgrades do anything for the sound quality? Just curious.

Here in Brazil there is only one service center and they don´t upgrade any equipment, or at least, they could not upgrade mine. don´t know why.

So i did it on my own.
