I am on the J&R Electronics website and am unable to locate the Denon 1909. I can fine the 1908 and several others, but not this one. What am I doing wrong, or can somebody simply copy and paste the link for easy serching

You need to press CTRL + ALT + DEL to reveal the Denon AVR-1909 on that site, it's hidden by default.

Yes it does... says so on the front picture of the receiver.

This is interesting. The Denon 1909 Product Sheet shows a whole gaggle of logos, including the one for Neural Surround. If you look closely at the photo on the Product Sheet, you can also see it on the case, as enkur pointed out. I noticed that the Neural Surround logo does not appear in the group of logos on the first page of the 1909 information on the Denon web site. In the Denon "Detailed Specifications" for the 1909, Neural Surround is not checked, and there is no reference to it that I can find in the manual. I took a close look at the case of my 1909 and at first I thought there were no logos on it. Then I looked more closely and found that the logos in the Product Sheet and photo are there, but it appears that they have been painted over so thoroughly that all you can see is are very slightly raised areas where the logos were. I can just barely make out the Neural Surround logo on the case, but the fact that Denon apparently tried to erase the logos makes me wonder whether some of them don't apply to the 1909.

I'm anal - I reading the online manual before I even get the damn thing. Sounds like an awesome receiver. See p. 75 Neural Surround definition seems to apply to XM radio though. "This product is made under license from Neural Audio Corp." p. 76 also has a neural surround category too.

I'm glad someone's reading the manual more thoroughly than I am. Still wonder why they painted out the logos on the case.

Trigger pulled.
JR deal to good to let pass.

Now I can focus on just the 1909 rather than comparing all of the brands and models.

When the 606 proved unsatisfactory, I ordered the Denon and...well...I got to use the singles.

Incidentally, I too had the onkyo 606 and returned it. The dualies worked fine in them. I heard back from monoprice and they issued my an RMA for the dualies. Impressive since it's been like 3 months. Not that the plugs are expensive, but still a great company in my book.

This appealed to me me because sometimes you just want to turn one thing on to listen to music and not fire up the PC too. All those streaming devices require you to have ur pc on the whole time.

As far as PC and Home theater, IMO, we have a long way to go. I currently have my TV hooked up through the SVGA connection to my pc. Its the only recommended input. I watch the "instant" movies on netflix, it's great for watching episodes of Lost, and it has really good picture quality, but. The audio is output through optical on the sound card. I tried the Media Center PC for a while but the aspect ratio never looked right, and the picture quality was less than dvd, so i gave it up. I still listen to my entire music collection through the pc via optical cable. Until I find a solution like the iTV. Now, unless you have a big @ss PC monitor, that's a different story.

My PC monitor -> 52" LCD @ 1920x1080p dot by dot hooked up via DVI-HDMI
The sound like you I'm currently using optical, but the day ASUS/Auzentech make available their HDMI sound cards, I'll buy 'em. Another reason for the HDMI 1909 upgrade. I usually put the PC to sleep, so it's about 5 seconds to wakeup and it's ready to play music.

I am looking at the 1909 and it apperars that this receiver will not upconvert/ cross convert analog signal to HDMI. Is that correct. I am looking at this for my dad and he still has some things that do not have HDMI output. We aree trying to only have one cable running to the TV from the receiver.

no that is not correct, where did you look? did you read anything in this thread, in denon's published specs online, or in the manual?

If you have a PS3 already or plan on getting one, then it can handle that for you.

Just pre-ordered the 1909 from J&R. Really don't need to get it now, but at this price why not. I had already decided this is my next receiver and sometime in the near future we will be moving to a house and my current reciever (older Pio Elite) will go to a game room. Great deal and I don't mind waiting on the pre-order.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. It really helped me make up my mind on my next AVR.

Does anyone know what the 1909 remote preset code for the JVC-RS1 are? I tried all the codes for JVC TVs in the back of the manual, but none worked ...

On Denons website I thought I read in the spec breakdown that it did not do analog to digital conversion. At least I believe there was no check mark next to that feature.

I just looked again and in one spot it says no analog to digital converstion but then farther down it sayd it does do analog to digital HDMI upconversion. I am assuming then that it does actually do this. Is this the first receiver in the new Denon line to do this or will some of the new lower level ones also do this?

Read the manual, it most definitely does to analog in -> hdmi out with Faroudja DCDi upscaling up to 1080p. Please read more carefully, and take the time to actually read this thread if you are considering the receiver.

Yes, this is the lowest-level Denon AVR to offer this feature; last year you had to get the 2308/888.

Ditto. I'd be very interested to know what the idle power consumption is. The Pioneer 1018 is Energy Star Rated, but this is not. However, the Pioneer 1018 doesn't have a switched outlet to power secondary equipment, so there's the idle power draw of that secondary equipment to consider.

I'm sorry if I misses this. Does JR know when they will ship out 1909's? They have a sweet price, but I can get them from another shop for about $30-50 more and they are also waiting for stock. I just want whatever is fastest, but not at MSRP.

I did read it, I just misunderstood, hence me asking the question. It most be wonderful to never make a mistake in understanding something you read. That should be part of the appeal of this forum is asking questions if you do not understand something, even if it was a mistake.

all I'm saying is take the time to educate yourself about the product if you are considering buying it, and most simple questions like those about basic functionality have almost certainly been answered already. if I just give you the fish, you'll only eat tonight!

check out page 9 of the manual, there's even a picture!

Where are you seeing this? I searched Big River for "Denon AVR-1909" and "Denon AVR" and it didn't show up. If this is true, I just want to take advantage of the Amazon 30 day price guarantee, since I bought it at MSRP.

what always amazes me is those of you who take the time to post a message which is critical of one who does not know an answer. either because they dont understand what they read or dont search the threads such that they find the answer.

you could just not answer and ignore the question rather than be critical. it also would save me the time of reading your snobbish replies. it is of no assistance to anyone.

Nevermind. Just ordered from the other place. About $600 shipped, shipping out Friday! Yes, they are authorized, atleast that's what they said when I bought my 1908.
