Update ,
I switched the BDP 370's audio HDMI to PCM and it changes the defult mode to MUTI CHAN 7.1 and all the static and dropouts go away. But again Revenge of the Sith and Empire Strikes back play flawlessly in DTS MASTER .

May the Force be with you.

I've had my 2309CI running for three years now no problem. Recently, after about 5-10 minutes the video will go out completely or I get some wierd digital "snow". Audio is ok though.

Cycling the power restores everything, but again, only for about 5 minutes before video goes out. Microprocessor reset with no luck. Can't even get the "menu" screen to show. HDMI cable tested ok. Warranty just expired coincidentally.

Anyone ever experience the same?

Sounds like it could be the HDMI board going bad which would cost about $500+ to replace. If you're no more than 2 months out of warranty give Denon a call and they may still cover it for you. If not, take a look at the various new models in post #2 of the Denon AVR-XX12 Owner's thread linked in my sig. The new 2112CI has the upgraded MultEQ XT, networking, and Airplay and can be had for under $500 by "calling" either AV Science or Electronics Expo.

Denon has resolved the Star Wars: The Complete Saga BD audio dropout issue with a firmware update. Although the firmware update will be made available at authorized repair facilities for all models as an "in warranty" repair, regardless of whether actually beyond the 2 year warranty period (yes this means if you are beyond the 2 year warranty you can still get it installed by shipping it at your own expense or drop off to an authorized repair facility), DenonJeff will be providing the update to me in the next day or so for those 2309 owners (889 doesn't have the RS-232 jack) that feel comfortable doing their own installation which will require a PC laptop and USB to RS-232 cable. Note that this update is being provided as a courtesy and as such is not supported by Denon should you have any problems with the installation (ie. you cannot call Denon for assistance). If you don't feel comfortable with doing the installation on your own, simply submit it to an authorized repair facility that is able to do the update for you, or the work around is to simply set the Blu Ray player to LPCM, or otherwise "not" bitstream. Please PM me with your model # and email address to receive the firmware update and instructions to install the update. For more information on firmware installation (in general), refer to post #2013 in the 2310CI thread.

As a 2309 owner you can install the update yourself or if you prefer to ship it to a repair facility, you will be responsible for the shipping cost (usual policy), while the installation and return shipping will be paid by Denon.

As an update to my HDMI going out problem i posted above, I had the shop look at it and told me the HDMI board needed to be replaced. They told me they couldn't do it because DENON no longer supplied the parts. They managed to fix it at the component level for $100. Brought it home, HDMI works great but.......found the GUI menu no longer displays on the TV and the up-converter is shot when i plug in my component cable box. Brought it back....DENON does supply parts. Really? Only 3 years old and I can't get parts. I could understand if it was 13 yrs old but not 3. What a joke and not what i expected from DENON after being a faithful owner for many other of the products. DENON will be hearing from me.

I just strated having an issue that I had a few months ago. The power will trip off when the 889 unit is turned on. I have troubledshooted everything like the manual said.
At this point I have everything disconnected from it and have went though the steps to reset the microprocessor.
Same thing happens.
Turn the main power button on, standby light blinks green for a couple seconds, then a click and red blinking standby light.
Is my unit messed up. Sounds like a relay or something is tripping out.

I had this issue months ago but then it went away and now it's back. This time I'm finxing it.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I bought the AVR-889 when Circuit City was going out of business. They didn't offer any Ext. Warranties.

Sounds like amp failure. Pop the top off and see if there is a blown fuse that you can replace, otherwise, you're likely looking at a new AVR. The 2112CI uses the new MultEQ XT and is a networking model as well. See post #2 in the XX12 Owner's thread linked in my sig for a comparison of the new models.

Seeing that it was out of the 2 year warranty, I already did that. Didn't see any fuses blown. Actually took all of them out and checked them very well.
The symptoms point to a internal switch or relay. It clicks when it shuts off automatically. The sound comes from the yellow transformers on the powerboard. Or somewhere on the bottom board towards the rear of the unit.

jdsmoothie thanks for the info on the comparable models. After talking with the closest service center, it's probably going to cost close to $200 to repair. I could hold out a little while and see if some better prices are available around the holidays.
After looking at the 2112 and the 2312, I think I may get the 2312. I always used multizone (which both have), but didn't like that to use Zone 2 you needed analog inputs. So everything I had was doubled up. I like the new multizone feature. Much easier for wiring.
Shoot for what we do, I may just get the 2112.

just to avoid any confusion, both the 2112 and 2312 have the same zone restrictions (analog only) as your current 889 model.

the 33xx models (e.g. 3312 among the current lineup) are the lowest models with digital audio to zone 2/3, and even then you still can't do HDMI audio to other zones, so double connections are likely still needed for any sources you wish to output to other zones.

I guess I misunderstood the specs. Guess they are kinda still missleading customers.

One other thing. The 889 is 700watts. If by chance I go with the 2112, which is 630 watts, would/should/could I notice a difference?

How so? What specs are you reading that indicate otherwise? The web spec sheet and Owner's manual both state no digital to analog conversion to Zone 2.

So I can get over the Zone 2 issue. Kinda wished they could come up with something that would all digital audio to zone 2. That would make wiring so much easier.

But man, looking at the 2112/2312 manual, there are some cool features there. Especially the web based functionality.

I guess now I need to decide whether to spends $200+ on fixing an old model or just putting that $200 towards a new one.

Just a thought .. if you're still within 3 years of purchase and you used a credit card, check with your provider as many add an additional 1 year of warranty (amex does this and some MC/Visa providers do as well). Also note, that if you set up Zone 2 as "Front B" you can then pass HDMI audio to those speakers, although limited to the same source/volume as playing in the main zone Front A speakers.

If you do still end up out of warranty, then you're much better served putting the $200 towards a new unit, eg. 2112CI which would upgrade to the next higher version of Audyssey, Airplay, and networking to boot! Give AV Science or Electronics Expo a call and you can likely pick it up for maybe just over double the estimated repair cost.

I think I paid that card off and trashed it.

I'll have to run it the same as I did with my 889. With my new Insignia LED, the sound sucks. So anyone watching TV will have to use Main Zone in stereo mode.
Sometimes I like to listen to the radio or XM (via home dock) outside.
And then sometimes like for Football games or Races, I setup the big screen outside, and run sound outside, while kids are watching BDs.
Once in a while I'll have the bigscreen playing the same as inside. Then the same audio is'nt an issue.

Uh yeh .. you would still have to have the card.

Also note, that the 2112CI can also pass internet radio and Airplay (including using smartphone apps) to Zone 2, although when Airplay (via the AVR) is used it hijacks the main zone so an independent source cannot be played in the main zone.

They did add in a few great bells and whistles.

So jd, you think I will notice a difference in sound going from a 700watt system to a 630watt system? My Klipsch Quintet are 8 ohms.

Yes ... although the difference will be the better version of Audyssey .. not power, as the average speaker only draws < 5W.

the power difference is totally negligible especially with efficient speakers like Klipsch.

I ordered the 2112CI last week. The big brown truck tried to deliver it yesterday and no one was home. Going pick it up at the HUB facility this afternoon. Hope it's just what I need.

Well, got everything hooked up. Pretty straight forward. But, they got rid of all the buttons/knobs. A bit trouble to use the remote or the webbased access all the time.
Haven't ran the auto-setup yet. Hope to do that friday when no one else is home.
All in all I like the newer design and the web based programming is cool. Now I just need a laptop to set it up while in the same room.

Also, once hooled up to the network, I got the FW update. Should I leave this connected all the tme? That same connection is the one I use for my xbox.
