I finally finished my basement and want to bring my Marantz 8001 down there. I need to buy a decent AV receiver that has video up conversion. My Sony Plasma (if you know Sony, it's an older TV but a great one) only show picture with the through component. Nothing else works. I need help picking the best and least expensive receiver that has video up conversion from composite or s-video to component (red, blue, green). Sound is always important to me the getting 480 upconverted 1080 means more. I've been looking at Pioneer and Yamaha.

Hope you can help me

The upconvert or up scaling could be 720 or 1080. Please help.

I'm not sure but I think upscaling to 720p or 1080i/p can only be acheived with HDMI output connections, so you may not have that option with your TV. But conversion from composite/s-video to component (at 480i) should be there on most new receivers, and the component output will also pass through HD video at whatever resolution it is input from a HD component output source. You may want to consider replacing your Sony TV with a new plasma with HDMI inputs.
