I'm thinking about this.

It doesn't actually seem 'better' to me than the 7.8 is. Also, although I know its coming ,where did you get the spec's?

I would not get the 7.8, they are disscounting it like the 8.8. The 7.8 has onley 2 or 3 hdmi ins. This has 5 hdmi ins they photos of the DTR-7.8.

No Audyssey Dynamic Volume? Will this be a Denon Exclusive? I was hoping it would be included in some of the new Integra models.

The 7.8 has 3 HDMI in. Plenty for what I need. If the time comes where I need more several years from now, I'm sure there will be some sort of inexpensive HDMI 'hub'.

I'm not sure what the differences are between the 7.8 and 7.9. The THX processing mode for listening at lower volumes sounds nice.

I'm waiting to figure out why the 7.9 is better, or how.

1 more HDMI in isn't really much of an improvment.

Was this in response to me? AFAIK only the new Denon's have Audyssey Dynamic Volume at this time. I hoped the .9 Integra's would have it as well, but I guess not.

Hi, i'm looking a buying an Integra 7.8 but may hold of for 7.9. Besides the extra HDMI inputs all it seems to have is the inclusion of 1080p upsaling and a new remote but has a smaller power usage so that may address the heating issues i've heard Integra's have.

It will be interesting to hear what you think of it.

One think I will ask is. There is talk that the 7.9 may now be made in China/Malaysia as opposed to Japan so could you maybe check where yours was made when you get it?

Thanks.

Sorry, my mistake - I confused Dynamic Volume with Dynamic EQ; the latter is there on every new Onkyo.

Correct, this unit not only has Audyssey Dynamic EQ, it also appears to have a THX verison of the feature that does the same thing.

I am curious to read a review of this unit as I am holding out on possibly buying one. I have been without a receiver for about 6 weeks now due to a lighning strike. I owned a Rotel but their new units are somewhat lagging behind in regards to HDMI, video processing, etc. Even a Rotel rep told me this. I know the 7.8 is being discontinued. As far as I know the price of the 7.9 is the same as the 7.8.

Why buy a receiver that is out of date for the same price as the DTR-7.9? They are discounting the DTR-7.8's get the latest greatest for the same price. The DTR-7.8's are on back order also. DTR-7-9's are not. Its very simple the DTR-7.9 is a much better receiver its the same price as a DTR-7.8. 1080P vs 740P up x5 HDMI in vs x3 HDMI in.

I don't think the amp section in the 7.9 is the same as the amp section in the 7.8.

a few more HDMI inputs, and 1080p up [which I won't use] is not a substantive upgrade. However, if you can't get the 7.8 for less, even when its 'older'. Then it becomes a more difficult section.

I'm under the impression that they cut some corners with the 7.9 with regardes to its amp section though.

So have you picked your new 7.9 up yet? They're not available here in Aust yet but still can get a 7.8 cheap as there clearing the older stock. If it's true about the 7.9's amp not being as robust it may be the way to go. Could make sense as the unit will now be made in Malaysia instead of Japan.

What's the retail $ on the 7.9?

Just picked up a 7.8 a little less than a month ago, $200 off. Absolutely no regrets.

I bought a DTR7.8 in Chrissy 07 to replace DTR7.6.As i also like to get the latest and greatest i to have been looking at replacing DTR7.8 For DTR7.9. After Checking Manuel out for the DTR7.9 It is very clear to me that The audio Section is exactly the same as The DTR7.8 In Fact the THD is rated as 0.05% Versus 0.08%for DTR7.9,For which no one would ever hear the differance anyway. Pls be aware that the power supply in DTR7.8 is Beafier then that of DTR7.9 if you are a tradtionslist like me also take note that DTR7.8 has a 5kg Weight gain over DTR7.9 and also is made in Japan as opposed to Malaysia.Even the Audassey EQ Xt Calibration is better then The DTR7.9 Yes The 1080p Upscaling is Great if your Screen supports it,the 5HDMI Inputs is great if you have lots and lots of gear to hookup. But The differances are always very suttle.I Was Talking to The Integra Rep and he was the one that told me The DTR7.8 is better then DTR7.9 He also Hinted to me that This Particular DTR7.9 Coming out of Malaysia may possibly be an interim model till the begining of 09 He was the one that also told me that the biggest differances between models is usually every second year. But to put your minds at peace when i had the DTR7.6 i was very happy with it.When i upgraded two years on to the DTR7.8 i was expecting some Huge things aside from HDMI and Audio Processing Differances,on a Audio Piont of View they were Both Superb. Regardless of the pro's and Cons I can Honestly tell everyone that the Integra Amps in General are **** Hot.Whatever One you Decide on you will be very Happy.

I have not read where anyone has actually listened to or tested the 7.9 yet. Until this happens I believe the assumptions about the build/component quality of the 7.9 are a bit premature. I have never owned an Integra but the 7.9 is at the top of my list.

If anyone knows about a legitimate review of the 7.9 please post so we all can read it.

I had a DTR7.1 before, so I understand that Integra is to Onkyo as Lexus is to Toyota. But looking at the specs, I can't help but wonder why anyone would buy the DTR7.9 over say the Onkyo NR876? I believe the price of the NR876 is better than the DTR7.9, so what are you paying extra for, other than the extra 1 input, and loosing the extra 1 output on the NR876?

It sounds as tho' the Amber rep is doing what alot of others' are doing....yak yak yakking about a product that no one on this forum has tested let alone touched.
The unit is Malaysian made...in an Onkyo/Integra factory using Onkyo/Integra fabrication and specs, and, I am sure, Onkyo/Integra robots-computers to assemble the boards.
We all use to joke about 'buying Japanese' cars a few years ago before they were proven well-made. Onkyo/Integra has been well made for the last 20 + years that we've sold and serviced them!
As to them running 'warm'....they have 7 amps inside...they are high current. The Yamahas and Denons and Pioneer/Elites we service also run 'warm', but yet they all have to be UL approved in order to sell here. I have yet to see any of these amp sections fail due to heat related issues.
Buy it and 'fuggetaboutit' !!!
thanks,

Hi Alan the reps that you have over where you are are obviously yaks, I am also in the Business of selling these products and my reps do a great job of trying to keep me informed with the most accurate up to date info.I am an Avid Integra Advocate, but people are entitled to an opinion, i prefer Japanese Technology but have had Malaysian.I could not fault it.but to assume that every year a new receiver comes out it is going to by soooo much better the the previous model is not true either, yes there are improvements.Remembering i had a DTr7.6 and upgraded to a DTr7.8 , Aside from Video Switching ipmprovemants the audio Performance on both were very good.aside from what i said regardless of integra product purchased you are on the right track.they do make a solid and reliable unit regardless.I would not go any other way.

7.8 amps on this new 7.9 vs 9.5 amps for the older DTR 7.8 model.

Same amp type, different power source [read: inferior].

Somewhat of a disappointment imo.

why would the current rating suggest to you the amp is inferior?
we can do a distortion test @ rated power when the 7.9's come in this week....
then u can buy a 7.9 from us !

Because, given a certain level of efficiency [same amp design for both model years] I would assume that more current is better than less current.

Perhaps I'm wrong.

I doubt my hearing is good enough to notice the difference.

When I have the money I'll likely pick one up.

Unless of course, the 7.8's go on deep discount. Might be interested in the 7.8 then.
