I have a Pioneer Elite 1150 plasma but Im not sure what level of processing it does.
Also what is the difference between these two and how important is it.
The 5002 has HDMI V1.3 Switching/ V1.1 Repeating: 3-In/1-Out
and the 5003 has HDMI v1.3a repeating (3 in/1 out)

I am pretty darn sure the Pioneer Elite Plasma has the bee's knee's video processing built in.

He means he thinks the Pio will do a better job than the receiver. He's right.

When you say my Pioneer will do better video processing is that in reference to my question about the HDMI switching vs. repeating? Not sure if you were answering me or someone else.

Important if maintaining 1.3 from source to display is important maybe.

From a current functional stand point? I would not consider 1.3 to important, that may change at some point in the future though.

I run my HDMI 1.3 devices through my HDMI 1.1 AVR all the time without issue.

Answer: This feature originally called "Sound Injection" is not documented in the owner's manual for these models: AV-8003, SR-5003/6003.

To use this feature on these models, first select a video input (DVD, TV, VCR ect), then select TUNER by pressing the HOME > buttons. Press #4, TUNER, then select from AM, FM, XM, or SIRIUS on the remote control. The video source initially selected will remain and you can listen to a separate audio program.

If you connect a separate composite video (yellow) cable in addition to the HDMI cable for a video source (DVD, TV, VCR, ect) and assign the V/S input to an audio source (TAPE, CD/CDR, AUX), you can then select a separate audio source while watching the same video source. NOTE: in this case, video resolution may be lower than original HDMI source.

Sorry to post again, but has anyone done this That can help me out?? I am trying to listen to my CD player, but watch TV at the same time. CD player is in Digital Coax, and TV is in HDMI.

Now, when the TV is on and I hit "tuner" the radio comes on and the video still stays. BUT if I hit "CD" it goes blank. Is this possible to do?

Where is the Home button on the remote?? Where is #4??

Any help is appricated...

Hmm, it's been a while but I thought EXT INPUT was the only one that had an option of changing the video/source. But I think it only has 5.1 (or 7.1) analog input (not digital). Give that a shot if you can change your CD to output via analog.

Thanks,

A question was posed in the Blu-ray forum but wasn't answered.

My current older Marantz receiver has no HDMI inputs. I have my E* 622 and DVD player going directly to separate inputs on my plasma (industrial). Each input is calibrated for each device. With the new receivers you can plug all components via HDMI into the receiver and then have one output to the TV. How are you able to have each component calibrated when you only have one input?

Good news, I got an email today and my order is finally shipping. Will probably take 7-10 days to get here since I'm in CA.

I read the HT review last night. But have you noticed that they rated performance of the 5003 same high as the Onk 806, the latter has higher feature rating though.
Are you sure you really need the video processing of your AVR?

It's not on line, I've read it in the mag. There's no direct comparo between the 5003 and the Onk 806, two separate back-to-back articles.

Arg! Can anyone confirm or deny this? I was specificially trying to aviod using the DACs in the player, and I really like to listen to music while keeping the game on.

I'll have to tinker around with it tonight.

No, sorry, this references the upscaling quality of the receiver and refers to taking an analog source and upscaling to output in 1080p. You should go to the Marantz website and download the manual and read it. I don't even have the receiver yet but have the manual.

Lets hope so. GO STEELERS.
Did you order the 5002 or 5003? I talked to Marantz today for a while. Bottom line difference is the 5003's ability with the newest audio formats and decoding. I think I am leaning towards the 5002 and a separate amp though and when I get a blue ray player make sure it can handle the lastest formats.

I haven't pulled the trigger yet. The only reason I will be upgrading my amp is for the new "formats". I still haven't decided on which amp it will be but it will definitely be capable of decoding all the new surround formats.

I am disappointed in the new formats. I am demo-ing a 6003 - Mainly because I want the TrueHD and DTS-MA. I really expected to be blown away by the improvement (like the difference between and MP3 and the original CD). I keep digging around in the settings hoping I have done something wrong and that suddenly I will get this lossless nirvana that I hear so much about.

is there a way to know for sure with my PS3 >HDMI> SR6003 that I am getting the right thing?

Ok if your receiver is anything like the SR7002, which it should, then apply the DIGITAL TOSLINK/SPDIF port number connected to your CD player and add it to the input line you are using for your TV. For example if your TV input is using DSS and you already have mapped HDMI to it then go one over to the right and select the number for the TOSLINK you are using and tie it to DSS as well.

Once you have done this you can now use the A/D button on your remote, which is mapped into the 4th page of options for the AMP in the LCD screen, to select an alternate audio source for input DSS. To expand on this the A/D button should really be A/D/D since you can select the analog inputs or either of the digital audio inputs (HDMI or DIG2) tied to a particular input selection such as DSS.

In fact there are even more selections for A/D since there are automatic preferences as well. You can cycle through all of these on the remote as well as preset the autos from the config menu or via the serial interface.

INPUT (A/D) SELECT INP:?

ANALOG INP:1
DIGITAL INP:2
HDMI INP:4
AUTO[DIGITAL] INP:6
AUTO [HDMI] INP:8

This is extremely poorly documented in the manual as are most things for Marantz.

If you note any improvement at all, it's working.
People are all over the place as to just how significant the improvent(s) is/are.

When you get into lossless, that in and of itself has sort of always been the holy grial of audio sources and now we have access to it. It is important to many of us to be able to use the best source possible, regardless of the real world differences in use.

make sure you select on th menu the lossless track because its not always the default.

Make sure your PS3 is set to output PCM. Then when your playing the movie press the select button and on the top bar that overlays the screen it will tell you what format is being decoded and played.

im pretty disappointed with 6ave.com right now...

i placed my order last week and they told me it would ship out either this monday or tuesday. Well i obviously have received no confirmation so i called them and they said it would be another 7-10 business days....

I find it very shady and misleading for customer service to tell me the things they did and then find out it was all BS...

I read in some earlier posts on this thread that the 4003 is limited in its HDMI connectivity because it uses HDMI V1.3 Switching with V1.1 Repeating opposed to HDMI v1.3a repeating of the 5003 or higher. Maybe I did not understand the post but not all three HDMI inputs are fully functional. Can someone clarify/verify this?

Thanks

"So I was ready to use the SR4003 as a full-time pre-amp but... there was a problem with HDMI. It would seem that the SR4003 can't handle 3 HDMI devices plugged in at the same time (see my posts above). I could only get HDMI audio from the dvd players with the TV turned off - turn on the TV no audio. I worked with Marantz tech support, trying 2 different HDTVs, 3 dvd players, 2 SR4003s and various cables but the problem persisted"

Hmmm, since PS3 decodes all the formats for you, you didn't need the 6003. Any HDMI audio capable receiver would have sufficed. Even the x001 line of martantz (HDMI/audio capable) would have been fine.

Make sure you PS3 is set to output via HDMI/LPCM. The default setting should be sufficient. *MAKE* sure you are *NOT* bitstreaming as that will only give you legacy dolby/dts.

Thanks,
Hansang

If you have a PS3 remote, press the "display" button and it will tell you what audio and video is being sent. Not sure where the button is on the controller.

IS the only difference between the SR5003 and the SR6003, that the SR6003 has 10 more watts per channel?

I have a question about the Zone B optical out on the sr6003. What type of AMP has optical in? with volume control?

I'd like to use this feature for my outdoor speakers, however my amp only has rca in and on top of that it doesn't have remote volume control. Sure would be nice to find an amp to use that has both.

Anyone have any ideas as the best way to accomplish? I suppose I could use the internal Marantz amp for zone B and my external amp with rca ins for zone A, correct? Or can you not assign the back channels to zone B?
