That may be true with the 7550HD, but it doesn't work with my 745. If I switch it to an HDMI input and the signal isn't already there, it will drop it and go to coax. It's very frustrating sometimes trying to get the sequence just right.

I hope this is not as much of a problem on the newer models.

Originally I bought an AVR 745, and returned it due to a broken optical jack. After that the refurbished units started to come. After 6 units (all with different problems) I was not going to accept it.

The offered to send a AVR 147 which was a joke and refused it. Then they offered a 347 which I would not accept. So I waited about eight months and got the AVR 7550

The current owners have been giving feedback as requested, overall we are too busy listening to the AVR ;-) A mini Review a few posts up w/ photos.

The only wishlist I have is that it would show full song names in the Bridge II OSD and the navigation be a bit more responsive.

Also once in a while my Motorola DVR (when powering on) will switch between 480 & 1080. (the indicator light on the box). However I never see the picture.

Powering off/on the receiver resolves it.

Yeah, the 147, 347 hardly an equal or better replacement for the 745. And by the sound of it, they never could get the 745 to be anywhere close to right.

I am happy to report I shipped back the 247, which is in transit, and HK will be sending me a 7550HD as a replacement for my 745.

My fingers are still tired from keeping them crossed. I can't wait to get my new toy.

Wow!! Wee!!
You must have an inside contact or brother-in-law who works @ HK..
I have seen 745s selling for $650 and you get a 7550HD on exchange..
The 7550HD has an SRP of almost $3K...
Congratulations..

I wish I had the $ to upgrade from my Bose wave radio..

Just my $0.015...

Yeah well, suggested MSRP don't mean a whole lot when it comes to HK. Normally street prices on HK is way less than MSRP. Usually about a month or so after they come out with new models, someone is almost always selling them for about 1/2 of MSRP. Anyone that pays full boat MSRP for any new HK model, is not a very smart shopper!

I'd take a hammer to my 347 if I thought I'd get one of those in exchange. Now I wish there was something wrong with it.

I guess the only question left for those who have their 7550HD's. Have you noticed any bugs/glitches/problems yet? I'll get one either way, but it would be nice to know that it doesn't work well with a _______ before I get mine.

I'll be attaching a cable box (through HDMI), an Oppo BDP-83 (or possibly an HK BDP-1) and probably a PS3 or Wii for fun.

TIA

That is true of all AVR brands except NAD and Rotel..
From the time of introduction and first shipment, and the wide-spread availaibility of internet sellers the pricing drops 25-35% overnite!!
This is true for Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo, Marantz & Sony..
Even Elite (Pioneer) is available @ steep discounts just check out the NYC sellers, E-Bay....

Advise the seller of a validated, competitive price and they will concede and meet competition..

Just my $0.015...

Yeah but the steepest and fasted discounting on new gear is almost always is with HK leading the pack, with many vendors dropping the price on HK dramatically within a month or so after it's initial release. I would never consider paying even anywhere near MSRP on anything made by HK.

No one should pay SRP today or even close to it..
The CE business is just too competitive, do your home work for comparing specs, features, warranty and pricing then make an offer..

For example, in July my brother-in-law wanted a Denon AVR3310CI its SRP was about $1499 came out about 4 months back. I found a local seller, offered $975 and he took it... Thats a 35% discount..

Bottom line....
Today's pricing is very negotiable in light of all of the competition..

Just my $0.015..

It was worth the wait. Harman worked with me every step of the way in replacing my AVR 745. I am sure if I have problems with the 7550 they will attend to that as well. I set mine up today and just got to the networking ability a few minutes ago. Great interface and wide variety of music with very high quality sound, internet radio or not. I use iTunes for internet radio most of the time. That may change!
The amps sound superb. Warmth like I have never had. They remind me of Australian Monitor amps or a Neve recording/mixing desk.
I am using a 5.1 Tannoy Arena system and it has never sounded this good.
Wait until they come down or look on ebay but I will tell you that if I had $2799 to buy an AVR, this would be the one. Hands down it beats anything in a +/- $1k price range of $2799.00.

Hi Folks,
anyone do a comparison with top end Denon/Marantz/Onkyo/Integra/Pioneer etc... (could have kept on with listing but you get the idea)

Even better... anyone compared to a Lexicon product? Especially the Logic7 implementation?

thanks

I loved my HK 445 and upgraded to the Marantz for a few newer technologies reasons but I didn't want to lose the HK sound. The Marantz was the best choice it seemed as opposed to the Denon's or Onkyo's.

The clarity of the Marantz is great but I would love to compare these two side by side.

I don't have a 354, but aren't they a bit buggy? But I would think the 7550 would be an upgrade in both software/hardware.

I wouldn't buy one just for HDMI, I really couldn't care less. As it is now, I can connect a BR to my 635 through 7.1 analogue. But having some of the other features would be nice.

Hi Folks

I know a few of you have these now...

Any further feedback on them?
Comparisons?
Problems?
Things they do real well (easy to use) or badly (hard to use)?

thanks

I got my long awaited 7550 yesterday. The unit is not yet calibrated, but i was able to apply Logic 7 over DTS Master Audio. I wasn't able to do this with my 745. I am not too impress with the video capabilities (too early to call) and i am not yet sold on Dolby Volume.

I will be calibrating the unit tonight and i will provide some feedback. If there are specific things you guys want me to test, let me know and i will test them.

According to the specs, it is possible to stream mp3s via the usb port and internet radio via ethernet. Is it possible to stream mp3s too via ethernet?

That´s very good news. Why aren´t they telling that in the specs? IMO that´s one very important feature, but maybe it´s just me (don´t think so).

Do you have a link to a comprehensive specification? Tried to download the manual but it did not work.

What I´m mostly hoping for is support for FLAC and (or) Apple lossless. And the possibility to control it with iPhone.

Hi Folks

I am most interested in the Logic7 performance

Also want to know about Dolby Volume...

Specifically how good is the Modeller feature as opposed to the Leveller...

I believe the leveller does compression and affects the sound... much more so than the modeller which is a true psychoacoustic "loudness" control. (ie adjust for the differing frequency sensitivity of human beings at volumes below reference)

I am thinking about getting one of these to finally replace my vintage Lexicon DC1 - and I run almost everything using Logic7 hence my concern...

thanks

This is my personal experience with Dolby Volume:

I initially had reservations about using it, thinking it would negatively affect the audio quality. That being said.

Dolby Volume has 4 settings, Off, Low, Medium and Max. Low only applies Modeler, Medium and Max apply Modeler and Leveler. The default setting is Low, and that is the setting that sounds best to me.

dlaloum, you might be on to something!

Logic 7 can be applied to all audio formats, including True HD, DTS HD and Master Audio, in both bitstream and PCM, from the player.

On a different note, I am still not yet able to get that tight compact sound i was getting with my 745.

I am not able to try this yet. What i do know (from the manual) the Bridge supports the iPhone, don't own one, so i can't try it ... anyone has an extra iPhone they can spare, so i can try it? lol.

Thanks for the feedback!

With your old AVR745 how was it set up and how is this different from the AVR7550HD?

Have you run the Ezset EQ ?
Are the parameters set the same way as they were with the AVR745?
(ie whether automatic or manual is the end result a match with the previous setup when you look at the actual settings...)
Can you actually look at the settings chosen by Ezset, or are the settings "invisible" unless set manually?

Just wondering whether the difference in sound is due to Ezset behaving differently... (in which case manual adjustment might tune it to the same settings)

It would be very sad to find out that the brand spanking new AVR7550HD takes a step back sonically from the flawed but great sounding AVR745!!!

Bye for now

David
