I would rather go with something better, like the Onkyo 906 would be more comparable.

Does the 906 have audyssey and the volume controls?

If so, that should work too, though the Denon would still be a far better choice.

LOL...who care about audyssey, the Sherwood has Trinnov. The 906 does use the Reon Processor like Sherwood. But I guess you could also use the 876 also.

On your sound commitment...I can tell you are into Appliqués over performance

Nah, I just have a sucky room to place my home theater into.

Besides, I already own a griddle, I do not need an Onkyo in order to fry my eggs and pancakes.

Well, it is July now...where are these things?

Yah, I agree with you. I can tell you are the type to place Magazines, Newspapers on top of your receiver. If I was you, I would stay with Clock Radios Because with your application experience you may try to cook on a receiver

As everyone knows, heat is the killer of electronic components. What shocks me is the number of egg friers which get THX certification. I guess THX must ignore heat as a factor in certification

I am glad to know you keep all combustables at least 15 feet away from the entertainment center-furnace combo you purchased.

I also hear Al Gore is working on legislation to outlaw the Onkyos, due to the massive global warming effect they are producing. Normally, I disagree with good ol Al, but he does have a point here.

I searched their site and could not find anything, so I did a bing search and found this:

http://www.sherwoodusa.com/dealers/

Odd that you have to actually do a lot of work to find out who is authorized to sell their equipment.

From everything I have read, heat is ignored unless it impacts on the other requirements.

This is true. What bothers me is the dealers listed in my area are installers and most do not have showrooms where you can demo equipment. When I was trying to demo a Sherbourn amp several years ago it was impossible to demo as all the dealers in my area did not have listening rooms. I also found the dealers I talked to were more interested in installs which I guess is where they made most of their income.

So if most if not all Sherwood Newcastle dealers are installers than demo and return policies will be hard to come by. Maybe Jeff will comment on if there will be any authorized online dealers that will be selling the R-972. I tried one dealer who is a custom installer in my area and he is calling for pricing and availability for the R-972.

I just added a sprinkler system to my HT room just in case. My 886 has already set of my smoke detector several times.

Now I know why Al called me. I told him the 886 does not run that hot but he knew about my 805/Weber I have hidden in the cellar. He said they did a heat signature trace on my house and my 805 was putting out more heat than my woodstove

I did help him design the Internet. Most people are unaware of that, kudos to you!

I think your space heater/avr device has addled your congnitive powers. Al Gore has nothing to do with ephahs or baths. I thought everyone knew he was a white Baptist.

You also take your avr WAYYY too seriously.

Personally, I was thinking of buying a 906 and using it during the winter, then using the 3808 during the summer. I could watch TV all the time and actually SAVE on my heating bill!

No I'm on the other coast. I looked at the link and DC is selling the R-965 for $1999.00 so I have a feeling they will not be discounting the R-972 very much.

Now thats a good idea. Don't forget during the summer to move the 906 out on the patio for grilling those T-bones. If you look on the Onkyo site they have grease drip pans that go inside the top cover so you do not mess up the Reon.

LOL...easy cowboy, you are the one comparing a unit that has nothing in common with the Sherwood and you still don't see it It's ok, with more application experience you will be fine All I did was mention a unit that had something that was a better comparison then a unit that you own. I think you are taking yourself way to serious. I would not own an 876, 906 or 3808, none of them fit my needs Sorry you take it so personally, I am sure you had a good reason on why you purcased a 3808? So...Good for you

I know you are on the other coast. But, because they are a dealer they must post the MSRP. 4 or 5 years ago when I was looking at the 965, they told me they would sell it for, as I remember, $1,299.00 or 1,399.00. And if I found it lower they would beat the other company's price. They were very competitive I would have purchased one from them, but didn't because of the Bass Management issue.

I will give them a call then. I just got a price of $1799.00 for the R-972 but I thought the MSRP was $1499.00. But maybe I am thinking of the Outlaw 977.

I purchased my P-965 from DC back in the day. At that time they didn't advertise the price, but when I called and ordered the price was around $1200+shipping

The intro price for the 977 is $1,399.00. So, I guess that would make since that the std price would be $1,499.00 I would think on the Sherwood that it will be easy to get the unit well under MSRP

DC had great customer service and the delivery was quick. The P-965 was brand new with the warrenty card in the box so I was happy(some internet places claim new and you get an open box unit). Also they are an authorized dealer so I didn''t have to worry about getting a claim denied if anything went wrong. If I was buying a Sherwood again I would buy it from DC unless another authorized dealer had it cheaper.
