Krell S300i

I thought that this was a great deal until I found out that this thing is "Manufactured in China"

Here goes the High End exorbitant prices for Made in China at least if it was made in the US, Canada, Japan or Europe I could understand but made in a Country where labor cost is 1/10 of the US come on....

Are you sure that's correct? I thought all Krell products (except maybe accessories) were made there at their US facility.....

I have never understood how and integrated amp can cost so much money. Correct me if I am wrong, but this thing looks like it lacks any digital inputs or a phono stage?

One would think all you would need would be a basic switcher circuit and an attenuator. Admittedly, it's fully balanced, so that would add some complexity.

Over 2k MSRP for a basic pre amp and 150x2 power amp seems excessive to me.

They're selling this at some sites for approximately $2k straight. I can get a Cary CAI-1 which is ICE 200ASC based 100 watt for $1200. Same deal with full balanced design and all. Ok the Krell has more watt but does it sound better than an ICE? I remember the days when the KAV300 was da bomb. But now more and more manufacturers are moving to Class D.

Most high end companies have their products made in china and then assemble the boards into a chassis when they get to america/canada/EU. Remember it can say "made in the USA" but that does not mean a whole lot now days since only a certain percent of it has to be "made" in the USA, I think the B&K ref 70 also had most of the boards made in china, if I remember correctly.
