Idle. Both answers were to this question.

How many watts does the Halo A 31 amp draw at idle on a 120v line?
I understand it is class A biased up to approximately 8W then switches to class A/B and would like to have an idea how much electricity costs might be as I expect to leave this amp on full time.

1.25 amps at 120V is 150 watts. That is what I thought the A21 pulled.

Main Kef: Reference 205/2 & 202/2c, Surrounds: Kef XQ40, Velodyne Optimum 12, Integra DHC 80.3, Ayre K-5xeMP, Oppo BDP-103, Bryston 4Bsst2, Parasound Halo A31. Second B&W: 685 (3), CCM618, Def Tech Powerfield 1500, Onkyo TX-NR1008, Zone 2 Klipsch AW650.

And if you take the "most of the repair issues are from turning on and off the amp time and time again" one step further, then shouldn't we just leave everything on, AVR, blu-ray player etc, sans the TV maybe.
Well..I would not go that far..I also leave my DAC on 24/7 also..but I have kids so my whole theater is usually on from 7 am to around 11 pm...

Yes..that's true it was a rep I talked to..he told me it is best...and that's what they personally do with there amps..but its not necessary... Ecpecially in today's economy..I was actually having a issue with the amp turning on when a signal was present, that's how I originally had it hooked up..so they suggested to just leave it on..its actually less ware n tear on the amp
And honestly my electric bill only went up a few dollars but hard to tell, down here in south fl..the electric bill fluctuates to much to really nail down actually cost
But..so far so good...really love my halo!
By the way..you see what's happening in Boston!.. Terrorist attack at Boston marathon

You're right. I missed that--must be a little slow today. rolleyes.gif

Using a smart meter and being able to monitor things a bit better, its almost negligible and a small price to pay for the life of the gear! I look at it as a luxury and the appropriation of funds and cut cost elsewhere like dialing back the fridge and using energy efficient appliances AC and others and unplugging other things when not in use ( vampire usage) coffee pots, hair dryers etc etc.. And over the years my usage continues to drop! while keeping the sound of my gear in a state of its best sound when I'm ready to listen wink.gif

No one seems to be accounting for the cost of removing the excess heat put into the room through the heat sinks. So it's not just the power used by the amp itself. Anyway, one less watt used, one less lump of coal burned.

Hello,
I have been running my HCA-2205AT, HCA-3500, HCA-1000a, and Aragon 8008bb 24/7 for over a decade. While this might strike me off the Greenpeace Membership roll, all of my amplifiers have been trouble free. My main logic for doing this is that the most stress usually placed on an amplifier is during the powering up stage.

So can eating spicy food, causing one's body temp to go up and pushing the AC down and cranking up the fans! but man its good sometimes biggrin.gif my Halo A21 doesn't get too warm! and as stated before I'm using less by cutting in other area's and the savings show it by Kilowatts used as I keep an eye on it and do my best to conserve wink.gif

Absolutely true..that's what I was told also..that's why I leave mine on 24/7.. Heat is not a issue..it runs Luke warm and right above my shelf for the amp is a vent for the a/c..and that is usually on all the time also, since I'm in south florida

Not a problem where I live, never gets hot in the casa, being it runs 45*~76* outside. Paradise!
But I still turn my amps off.

Sadly yes. Once done it will be 100% black (the rack). When was black available? The 52 is only a few months old. The 51 about a year. I plan to list them in the classifieds shortly.

Of coarse, that would also depend on the room...if it were too live, it would not take much power. Dead room...more power.
If one has a misfortune of having a concrete structure, very little power is used. Even with treatments.

I leave my Halo's on when I'm around the house (I'm working here) but I wouldnt leave them on, when I leave the premises.
Imagine if something going wrong, and your room burns down... I always have this anxiety. If I leave for more than a few days, I even unplug everything, just to be sure, and this way I also protected against lightnings.

Why is the A52 discontinued, is this official ? Is something coming to replace it, or you need to jump for the A51, if you need 5 channels? It would be a huge mistake nowdays when you have a lot of budget amps on the market. (Emotive, Sunfire etc)

I don't think Parasound has made any announcements about the A52/replacement. I would assume anyone buying a Halo amp would rather have twice the power of the A51, so maybe the reason for the demise of the 52.
Since when has Sunfire ever been budget?? Fairly high priced the last time I looked.
