The thing I notice immediately is that the sound seems low. I can play on full volume (86 in the display) and it's not that loud.

I tested the poweramp on an old Sherwood surround receiver and now I get she same volume around 3-4. Remarkebly louder (more power) connected to the Sherwood receiver than the Parasound NC-7100.

I'm wondering why the Parasound preamp seems to "strangle" the power of the poweramp?

Two thoughts.  The Parasound NC-7100 has trim on the channels, I wonder if the trim is turned down?  Also some of the zone options include variable output.  Hopefully it's just a volume or trim issue.

Hello Parasound fan boys and girls, have any of you compared Parasound with Emotiva? I read Emotiva beats the crap out of Parasound for half the price, what do you think?

Hi

I'm using stereo mode since I've only one poweramp connected to the front terminal output.

I'm offshore now but I will check trim and zones when I come home...Thanks

Over the last few years, I've read many posts by different people who had Emo, and then decided Emo was not cutting it. And then stepped up to Parasound. Emo is for the "I want to spend next to nothing crowd." And that is what they get.

I owned an emotive XPA-5 and 3. I replaced them with Halo A51 and an A21. If you want an amp that can go loud, emotive is the way to go. If you want to maximize the sound quality the Halo's are the way to go.

Santa brought an A21 with a pair of Dali Epicon 6's.

Oh my, my Dealer came over yesterday morning with a few friends. One pair of the Epicons was sold and I think my dealer is selling his Totems for Epicons too.

it has been my experience that owners of various brands tend to think that their brand is superior, and Emotiva owners are no different.  Not sure why WSE thought this was newsworthy, smells like trolling to me.

Besides the quality of the Halo series, I find the ease of use of the P7 to be superior over my avr. Everything on the P7 can be changed on the fly, w/o having to go deep into some menu.

Until such time they hear something better. For years I thought my Yamaha CA2010 was a good match to my L212s.
But when I bought Marantz and then HK Citation I found out what I had been missing all those years.

Anyone compare parasound a21 to an anthem a-2? I have the anthem but can get the parasound for a real good price and sell the anthem. Using it with Paradigm Signature speakers.

I see we have similar taste in gear , while I don't have or have never heard the A2 I do use the MCA 30 for my center and surrounds and use an A21 for my mains (Boston Acoustics E100) I've never even gotten around to trying the MCA30 on the mains but will tell you that the Anthem's are dead silent like no other but the A21 is an amp at it's price that can do no wrong and even if price wasn't a factor makes it hard to justify the need to spend more . If it were me and the deal was good and you love 2/ch I would jump all over it, the Halo series of amps are just capable of punching well into the top echelon of amps especially the A21 &JC1's both of which are John Curl designs. And I must admit it pairs very well with my 8801 wink.gif

I'm not a Parasound fan boy, but have owned both the Emotiva xpa-2 and xpa-3, and Parasound A51 and now JC1s. Like many folks who bought Emotiva products, they are good amps for the money. Many folks are on a budget and can't afford to spend $$$ for their gear. For them, Emotiva gives them the best bang for their money. I was in that camp. However, I sold all of my Emotiva gear (1 xpa2 and 2 xpa3) aftet having them for less than 6 months after transitioning from receiver to separates. They sounded ok, didn't move me one way or another. Felt something was missing, just didn't have that toe tapping feeling. It sounded analytical, forward, but detailed. After listening to Parasound amps, I am sold. They are very musical, non- fatiguing. To me, it is worth the extra money saved to get the Parasosund Halo amps (even used) vs the Emotiva amps. You won't be disappointed.

Classe amp is the bomb. I have a CA5200 mated to Anthem D2 and Signature S6v3 and the mids are to die for. This is the amp I'm keeping for life. Would sure like to get hold of their mono amps. I had a Classe SSP600 but sold it and kept the D2. The deciding factor was the ARC, really made my room sound really really good.

Yes I also have a CA-5200 and CA-2100 I am keeping those until they go bust! I wish the SSP-800 had an automated EQ For lower frequencies like ROOM PERFECT, or DIRAC...

Unfair and unwarranted. WSE is no troll and all he was conveying was the fact that folks who cherish their E-gear are as happy as clams. I think we are all mature enough to recognize that without accusing someone of "trolling".

I beg to differ Torqdog, using the 'fanboy' term and going into a specific brand thread with such a greeting is indeed a troll post.  That is not to say that the poster in question is a troll, but that the POST is trolling.  And claiming that Emotiva beats the crap out of another brand is not simply stating that emotiva owners are as happy as clams, I'm puzzled at how you could come to that conclusion.

I know what you're saying and I also agree that it kind of reads that way. I personally thought it was more of a "tongue in cheek" post when I first read it and it probably would have more likely come across that way if he had also included the rolleyes.gif emoticon at the end like he did with his follow up post;

Everyone who frequents these forums know what a joke it is how the Emo folks feel some sort of superiority and I just thought he was kind of playing off of that notion.

Enuff said.........no need to belabor the issue.
