batpig, do u think 32-bit/384kHz processors is a trend we'll see in nextgen AV Receivers?

to the edge of eternity and depth of infinity, stupidity knows no bound.

I emailed Jeff Talmadge, director of product development for Denon NA about availability of the AVP-CIX. Here's his reply:

"That project is on hold till next summer at the earliest, sorry to inform you."

Bad news for me as my AVR recently died and I likely would have bought this if were going to be available soon

That is a shame . I sold my 3808 to upgrade to separates at some point in the near future. Thanks for checking up on it - I have been lurking the internets to find info on it for a very long time.

I want a preamp with balanced outputs at a fairly reasonable price and the Integra DHC-80.1 would fit the bill nicely. Unfortunately, I really, really don't trust the bad quality and customer service I have heard so much about concerning Onkyo/Integra, so I was really hoping to see this Denon AVP-CIX soon...

Well that sucks. Looks like I'll be getting an Integra/Onkyo pretty soon.

Thanks for updating us.

I wonder if Denon is looking at what Onkyo is coming out with, 1007,3007,5007,5507, and saying to themselves we're in trouble.
Onkyo is beating us to a plup
Features, connectivity (up to 8 HDMI inputs), THX Ultra II, PRICE...
What a difference a year makes.........

cmryan821 - what are you wondering about it? It will be launching next month. I sell both of them you are looking at out of MN, but I prefer the Denon over the Onkyo.

I have no idea, I'm not an industry insider or anything I didn't even know that it was happening at all!

But, if you read threads like this and see how people obsess about on-paper specs, DAC's, etc. I don't see any reason why they WOULDN'T do it in an effort to win the "numbers" war. I mean, let's say Onkyo does it.... then Denon has to also, right? Regardless of whether it makes a difference (and remember there isn't even any evidence that 192kHz audio provides a lick of audible improvement over 96kHz) I am sure manufacturers will use it and market it.

JWHTS, Since you sell both and prefer Denon- does this mean that Multi EQ in the Denon is nearly as effective as the Multi EQ XT correction in the Onkyo's? Please explain your preference for Denon in what parameters it trumps the Onkyo.

Consider me surprised, FS now carry the 990 (same features as 3310).

I thought that XT was a more sophisticated program with more points of capture and more adjustments?

You are correct. It is as it not only uses 8 positions (vice 6) but XT uses "high level" resolution filters vice "mid-level" resolution filters in regular MULT EQ.

the 3808CI is heavier, has a little more power, MultEQ XT (vs regular MultEQ), different DAC's and ADC's, Denon Link 3, SACD support over HDMI, and a few more inputs/outputs. the 3310CI has an extra HDMI input, better video processing, PLIIz, and you don't have to pay for the DynamicEQ/Volume upgrade as a "feature pack".

I'm weighing options and considering the 3808 vs. 3310. Can anyone tell me if there's a difference between the two in accessing internet radio? Is there a difference in the GUI? Is there a difference in the ability of the two for access from a PC, iPod Touch, etc.?

If I got the 3808, I would certainly do the $100 firmware upgrade.

I wish I could have both units side by side hooked up to a TV and ethernet so I could see/feel what if any differences there are. I have to admit being pretty ignorant to all that is possible with these units so its hard to know what I may be missing if I were to chose one over the other.

So confused...

Invest in a 4310....

...I guess that solves many problems/decisions, doesn't it? I suppose if I go with Dakmart on a refrub its only ~$300 more. If I compare the refurb 3808 vs. a new 4310, well that's quite a different story...

Me thinks I'll keep an eye on the 4310 prices for a little while. Thanks!
