From Onkyo:

The TX-SR607 raises the bar once again in the competitive world of mid-range home theater. With HDMI 1.3a inputs for up to six components, it’s ready to handle all your high-definition video and audio needs. The TX-SR607 packs an array of convenient connectivity options, allowing you to incorporate HD Radio, iPod® and MP3 players, SIRIUS™ Satellite Radio, and more. Four specialized gaming modes, Audyssey room-correction technologies, and Zone 2 capability add the gloss to what is a phenomenal all-round package.

I was checking over the weekend and the best I found for pre-order was $494 on Amazon. Found 'em on Abt and J&R for $499 too.

My first post! I've been reading everyone's expert opinions on this site for a few weeks now and thought I should join and add what little I can. I now know where the real experts are. Excellent message board!

I called Onkyo yesterday inquiring about the release date of their new line (specifically the SR507 & SR607) and the CSR stated they're due out the end of this month.

I wish they'd hurry up...I need me a receiver!

That should be quite interesting with Dolby Pro Logic IIz.
And 6 HDMI inputs!

I bet a lot of people are very anxious to see it released.

I was unaware that the 607 was coming soon.

My collection is complete.
I bought the last Panny PX80 on the east coast.
Sony S350 BDP days before the announcement of the S360
My spiffy new Energy Take Classics, yep those are discontinued too. ($230 CC's last day in biz)
And for the coup de grace My Onkyo 606 arrived last friday.
All I need now is an Oldsmobile and I am all set.

Maybe this is too early to ask, but here it is:

I have a Samsung BDP-1500 blueray player, I want to listen to movies in DolbyHD or DTSHD, how would the cables connect to this receiver from the player?

Player HDMI - Receiver HDMI in - Receiver HDMI out - TV HDMI in?

If that is the case, would there be any PQ loss? I have the Samsung LNA650 which handles 24p as does the player, will this be a problem going through the receiver? Is it possible to disable the upconvert, color enhancement, etc that these new receivers do? I want my player to handle those not the receiver. Thanks in advance.

Ihave my unit on order now. I will be doing the same thing with a PS3 and a Samsung PN58b550. The Onkyo should just pass the 24p video to the TV without alteration. (Since its 1080p already.)

I replied to you in the other thread also. Let us know what you think when you get it. I'm not really interested in the PLIIz but would like to know how it is otherwise.

Hopefully someone will know the answer to my question. I am interested in purchasing the TX-SR607 receiver. However, my media cabinet measures a total of 14" in depth with an inside cabinet depth measure of 13". The Onkyo SR 607's depth is 12 15/16".

Do any of you know if the receivers depth measurement of 12 15/16" is established from the master volume knob back? Or is the case depth established from the front edge of the case to the back edge of the case?

If its from the volume knob, I will have a 16th to spare. If not, I am afraid the volume knob will screw me over as i would not be able to close the cabinet doors.

I just ordered my 607 from TigerDirect. Shipping today, will be here in Hammond, LA on Monday, 4/27 with free shipping. I will let you know what I think of it when it arrives. I think I made a good choice by going with this over the Yamaha 665.

If anyone receives it before me, please review!

nosacking -

When you get your receiver - can you be so kind as to give the unit a measure from the front edge of the master volume knob to the back edge of the cabinet and let me know what it measures?

Thanks man...appreciate it.

Jakeman - thanks... I dunno man, this might be just to tight. However, with the cable connections their is a degree of flexibility to push slightly back. I will see with nosacking has to report back on the exact measure.

Got this temporarily setup this evening (once the UPS guy dropped it off, I had to set it up).

It's about 13" deep including the back posts and front knob. With elbowed HDMI cables and not using banana plugs in there you could maybe squeeze it in 13" but it would be quite tight. With straight up HDMI cables it's at least 13.5-14" deep. The dimensions with nothing plugged in are ~6.9" x ~17.2" x ~13" (H x W x D).

So far I like it, I don't have a full setup yet (still missing a center channel) but what I have it sounds pretty good. Did the Audissey calibration with 3 positions but there was a fair bit of ambient noise so I'll probably have to do it again early in the morning sometime once I've got my final speaker wire and speaker location setup.

The OSD is not bad, I'm not really too familiar with the more recent Onkyo ones but it works well enough. The on-screen remote setup worked alright but all it does is let you look up the codes directly from the device and then tell you what button to press to make sure it's working. Trying to find the right menu to go to to find the code for my TiVo took longer than I was expecting but it did eventually find it. The remote also works with my Xbox 360 which is nice, the last couple included universal remotes I've had have not.

I don't really have any intention of putting up height speakers but if I were it seems fairly straightforward.

All in all, from a first day point of view I'm pretty happy with it. I'll need to give it a while longer and see if any niggling issues pop up but so far I quite pleased with the purchase.

I have unboxing photos as well, obviously nothing amazing (cardboard, Styrofoam, and some electronics) but feel free to check them out at flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/3771253...7617154356541/

Yes, that's how you'd set it up. And no, there shouldn't be any loss in picture quality unless you have the receiver start doing stuff to the picture (scaling, etc.). The picture should get passed through pretty much untouched, the receiver will just decode the audio portion.
